- Meet Joyce Edwards: The Next Basketball Superstar | Got Next Ep. 1
Welcome to "Got Next," where we shine a spotlight on the brightest talents hitting the college basketball scene next season! In this episode, get ready to meet Joyce Edwards, a true force to be reckoned with both on and off the court.
If you're not familiar with Joyce Edwards yet, it's time to catch up. Standing tall at 6 feet 2 inches, Joyce is a powerhouse forward hailing from Camden High School in South Carolina. But she's not just any player - she's the real deal.
From dominating the volleyball court to ruling the soccer field and, of course, leaving her mark on the basketball court, Joyce is a versatile athlete through and through. But her talents extend beyond sports. With a stellar academic record, she's at the top of her class with a 5.0 weighted GPA and dreams of becoming an environmental engineer.
Joyce's journey to success hasn't been without its challenges. Despite a setback with a broken ankle in her sophomore year, she showed true grit by returning to help her school clinch consecutive State Titles. And let's not forget her international stardom, representing Team USA at the U19 Women’s World Cup and bringing home the gold.
In her final high school season, Joyce's stats speak for themselves - averaging an impressive 31 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 steals per game. It's no wonder she's ranked number 2 in the country and earned accolades like the National Gatorade Player of the Year and MVP of the McDonald's All-American Game.
But Joyce's story doesn't end there. As she gears up for the next chapter of her career, she's set to join the powerhouse program at the University of South Carolina under the guidance of coach Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks.

So excited for Joyce Edward’s and SC. I am side eyeing 👀 ESPN for bumping her down to #3. She will get in the lab this summer and prove them wrong. She will help SC next year. She is a solid player, no question. Great video.
I agree about Joyce Edwards is a very great talent one of my favorite to watch I love her going to South Carolina
Love that Dawn Staley was in those academic meetings with Joyce. Looking out for her players, making sure she's helping set them up for success academically and not just for basketball.
I am excited about Edwards...SC fans are ticked with ESPN for moving Joyce down to #3 from #2...typical ESPN nonsense. This was a huge pickup for South Carolina.🎉
I really like her. Much, much respect to that young lady. Her big smile when talking about education made me a fan. I wish her the best of both worlds. And she will be such a positive example of what an academic-athlete is all about.
That’s why Dawn is the Goat! She is going to get the in state recruits by all means necessary
What makes this such a great addition besides Joyce's obvious talent, she has on court familiarity with some of her new teammates already. (Kitts and Fulwieley). Sou Car becoming hotbed for bball talent starting with A'ja Wilson, A. Watkins, M. Fulwieley, and now J. Edwards. In my nind's eye I see coaches looking to the heavens and screaming "make it stop".
Quita, LOVE the hair! That’s a great look!!! 🙌🙌🙌
Yeah she like that 💪🏾💪🏾
Shout out Coach Staley, the ability to convince a star to sacrifice for winning in this NIL era is phenomenal
Very true… As a UConn fan, I struggle to like SC because of how much they have created a recent rivalry but I can’t help but admire Staley and what she is doing.
@@matthewreese3907 they might meet in the tourney next year
@@james7697 I hope so! Would be a great game!!
She will be another National Championship player for our beloved Ladies!I can't wait!
Great hair Quita! Joyce is a Superstar!!
Love your hair today!❤
Dawn is the goat man! I hope she keeps getting blessed.
This great. Looking forward to to seeing this series
I absolutely love your content! Utmost respect for Coach Staley, I just hope Bama womens basketball can keep up.
love this series!
Welcome home babyyyyyyyy❤
I actually like her game more than Sarah Strongs'.
She plays both sides of the court with equal tenacity...
Sarah is a dominant offensive player however in my opinion defense is sometimes optional...
She will be a better fit for Dawn Staleys program and coaching philosophy...
Best to her for continued success....
UConn is known for defense, Strong will improve or she'll be on the bench. With all the success UConn has had for over 30yrs that doesn't come without defense. They defended Clark better than any team this year, UConn couldn't make shots, hence the loss.
@@jeromedanielson4422 hope uconn got a good weight loss program
I followed her and Milaysia went the the state championship when they played each other and it went down to the wire ultimately it ended in Milaysia winning by 2 points
I'm excited to see how Joyce Edwards and Boston play next year. Might be a friendly rivalry between the two players for years to come. I'm hoping Dawn can find minutes for her because that girl can HOOP.
A Complete person on & off the court
I keep missing Quita post. This is the 2nd post I've missed today.
Preciate this video! In your opinion, who is better right now, Edwards or Strong? And who will be the better player by the time they finish college?
Any player comps for both?
Yeahhhhhhhh she niceee.... The rich just keeps getting richer.. I can't 🧢
6'"3" and might be still growing and is an ideal point small forward or point person forward. Ca place center, 1 to 5, and guard all positions.
When will you have a update on the Chicago sky trade from number 8 to 7
I hear they made the move to ensure they get Angel Reese
Noti gang
Steph Curry was a 7 pick in his 2009 class, look at him now, do you even remember those who were picked before him? Reese will do fine, the game is not for the strongest or the best shooter, Reese knows her weaknesses and she's shown she is prepared to work on them, that's what matters and she also has a winner mentality
Damn quita 😍
👍👍👍👍👍
As if we need any more players. But where else would she play, she's a SC native.
Can never can have too much talent, especially when you know how to manage it like Dawn does.
I hope she can get #2 #20 in the gym and teach them to shoot and dribble
Do you think Dawn takes an experienced true 5 in the portal and who if anyone transfers from SC?
Do yall think SC can beat Texas in the SEC next year?
How did she get dropped to 3 by espn when she won McDonald's and Jordan Brand MVP and led usa team in nike hoops summit to the comeback win? Politics clearly
how can a 19yr old from australis be drafted, but americans have to be 22 yrs old
Rules are different for European players or foreign players
@@Qaulim and that is the problem
@@matthewperkins5382 and so are the rules regarding NIL for foreign students at american universities.
@@gnphillips5481 I think if Edwards (Canadian) at UConn could have benefited from NIL she may have come back for a 5th year/covid year.
Quita -You promised us we'd get to see your mother. Everybody should be back from church by now. What's going on?
The stream with mom is at 3pm central
@@QuitaLovesSports Aah. You're saving her for prime time. Makes sense. That's when all the superstars shine the brightest.
