Your video makes me happy. I think part of it is because of all the garden sounds in the background! 🙂🌱🌿🐛🦋🐦💮🌹🌻 Do you recommend ONLY planting these plants in the early spring? I'm in zone 9, so I might direct sow.
Hi, nice video I’m really interested to get some seda for this plant, I used to have this plant in my childhood house, and mis I want to have sone could you help me to get it. I live in North Carolina.
If I want to harvest the balls for dry flower arrangement… When would be the best time to do that? While they are still green or do I wait until later in the late summer??
Hi nice video, Question if I was to plant this in my garden would the caterpillars over power and eat my vegetable? Or would they focus on this plant and leave my others fruits and vegetables to minimum?
Monarch caterpillars only eat milkweed, they don't eat vegetables, fruit, or another plant in your garden or yard. If you have caterpillars on other plants, they are a different species of caterpillar and they will not eat the milkweed. The plant they are munching on will tell you the variety of butterfly. If on your carrots, parsley, and fennel it is the black swallowtail. The caterpillars do look similar to the monarch caterpillars.
Monarch caterpillars would never touch your veggies, and the cats that are on your veggies will not be interested in milkweed. Find out what you’ve got and go from there! Every caterpillar has its host plant. You might have swallowtails or tomato hornworms
Claire, where are you located at in Maryland? How far apart do you plant each plant in the garden? I want to put them in a large flower pot that I have in my front yard. I usually grow sunflowers in this pot. I bought a really big pot for the milkweed. But need to know if I can plant more than 1 hairy ball plant in it?

Do you pinch this plant at all like you do other annuals?
I have a plant that I harvested a bunch of seeds. Do you do anything to the seeds besides drying? I am not getting any to germinate.
Do you have to cold stratify this variety? That is impressive it gets that big in one season, especially with caterpillars munching on it.
No you don't cold stratify this variety because it is a tropical variety. It will grow as an annual if you live in a region where it freezes.

Hi nice video,
Question: would the caterpillars focus on this plant more instead of my vegetables and fruit?
Hey Destinee. I think caterpillars would prefer to munch on milkweed and leave your veggies alone. Have fun with your gardening projects!

The only plant the Monach butterflies eat are the milkweed plants..
