- This video will compare both versions of the generation 3 jungle fatigues types introduced in 1967 to themselves and to the what replaced them officially the bdu’s. The first part of the video will discuss basic and easy ways to tell the generations apart and then move on to compare the class 1 and class 2 jungle fatigue generation 3’s. The last part of the video will compare the last gen jungle fatigue to the bdu blouse. I apologize for the inevitable fact that I am going to mess up some of these terms because there is so many different types and classes and generations. From my observation and contemplating. The slant pocket was get rid off for sake of easiness in stitching all the insignia, and tapes. You have enough space on the chest for the simple form and straight lay out pocket.
In addition the position of the slant pocket on all Vietnam war era jackets is sitting higher closer to the shoulder than on BDU. From this perspective I think the designer of BDU already calculated that the lower position could compensate the angled but higher position of the old design for hand access.
The middle bellow might be neglected in BDU pocket due to the cost reduction. The cut pattern of the slant pocket either cover flap or pocket bucket is quite complicated and may waste of unused material a lot on the fabric reel.
I also like the Vietnam war style the most especially the pants as it has wide and straight legs. I hope some commercial brand should be somehow innovative and make uniform in Vietnam war slant style in modern material and camo like poly-cotton Multicam/Scorpion W2 or AOR2 or whatsoever for the market.
those were the first ERDL camouflage jungle fatigues based on the OD ones. Nice specimen you are wearing. I got issued the OD slanted pocket fatigues (ripstop).

@@kobebob8495 As long as you have Mommasan wash and iron them for you when you come off the line and do Garrison duty. Otherwise you look like a pile of rags and Top will screw you.

@@SammyHoliday never ever anywhere have I read there is 5 patterns so I’m going to need some sources. Literally everything I’ve read even from the engineers research design lab says there is only 3 patterns.
1: exposed buttons, 2 pen pockets, 6 front buttons, pocket drain holes, no yoke, gas flap, sleeve gusset, epaulettes, waist tabs, OG-107.
2: hidden buttons, 2 pen pockets, 5 front buttons, pocket drain holes, no yoke, gas flap, sleeve gusset, some have waist tabs and/or epaulettes, some don't, OG-107.
3: hidden buttons, 2 pen pockets, 5 front buttons, no pocket drain holes, yoke, no gas flap, sleeve gusset, no epaulettes, no waist tabs, OG-107 or ERDL.
4: hidden buttons, 1 pen pocket, 5 front buttons, pocket drain holes, yoke, no gas flap, sleeve gusset, no epaulettes, no waist tabs, OG-107 or ERDL.
5: hidden buttons, 1 pen pocket, 5 front buttons, pocket drain holes, yoke, no gas flap, no sleeve gusset, no epaulettes, no waist tabs. OG-107 or ERDL.
