I recently got the new AGM standard deck (thinking it was still the original) and compared it to my old AGM deluxe edition. I know that the paintings were painstakingly restored and that these are the newest scans/photos, but for some reason I still prefer the previous ones. In the older version the colours are more vivid and there's better contrast, the images literally "pop out" of the cards. The new version somehow loses some of that magic, the colours are more "washed out". It is very dreamlike but at the cost of that visual intensity I'm so used to.
I have to note, though, that the card stock seems to be slightly better and I adore the new card showing Crowley and Harris. It's a bit of a tough one, I think I'll just trim my original old scan deck and use it for myself (since it will eventually become the "vintage" version) and I'll use the new AGM version for regular/casual readings. Thanks for the comparison, it's nice to properly see the difference when both decks are in the deluxe size!

Thanks for the comparison. Is it me or the images on the new AGM deck lack in definition and contrast?

I think it looks like there is less contrast in AGM deck. It makes the contours look softer than in the US Games deck. The definition is about the same in both decks. Colours are also more saturated in the US Games deck, especially yellow. In the AGM deck, colours look more natural.

What’s the cardstock like in the new one? Is it thicker? Same size? Slippery?
