  • This is my conversation with Leo Carnicella. It took place on 11/20/22 from his home in Germany.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela. Son of an Italian immigrant marriage, Leo discovered his
love for music at the age of six. He started playing the electric organ in an autodidact
way until he developed some skills and good ear to perform pieces of popular songs
from other artist or TV commercials. At the age of 14 he started to write poetry and
songs, and later when he was 18 years old, he studied Music Theory in the Conservatory
    Jose Angel Lamas, Caracas.
In 2010 he decided to record eight of his songs in a Demo album which was called
“Strange Land of Weird Colors”. The result captured the attention of the legendary Ve-
nezuelan DJ and Radio Announcer Alfredo Escalante, who encouraged him to continue
developing his skills. In 2015, Leo moved to Europe and continued to write songs. In
2020, he sent his material to the famous British bassist Tony Franklin, who offered his
help to improve his compositions. The result of this was the EP “Until a New Dawn”, a
personal tribute from Leo Carnicella to Alfredo Escalante (who died in Caracas in 2016).
It contained three songs by Leo (Music & Lyrics) featured by Tony Franklin on bass, the
Philippine drummer Jan-Vincent Velazco and the Venezuelan guitarist Marco Ciargo,
mixed and mastered by the veteran guitarist Mark Wingfield in Heron Island Studios,
London. This production was released on June 27th, 2020, in all digital platforms and
in a very limited CD digipack edition with arts and illustrations by the famous Canadian
artist Hugh Syme. The result received very good reviews in countries like Argentina,
Canada, Spain, France and United Kingdom.
In 2021, Leo started to write and record songs for a whole album with six original
songs. This time, Leo had the pleasure to work with the Uruguayan guitarist Beledo
and with the legendary British guitarist Martin Barre, who played as special guest in a
suite of almost 14 minutes for the album, which also counts with an audio recorded by
the famous Dr. Rick Strassman in the same suite, based on the Dimethyltryptamine,
a substance with profound effects on the human consciousness. The album features
once again, the bassist Tony Franklin, the drummer Jan-Vincent Velazco and is mixed
by the legendary Sound Engineer Mike Stavrou in New South Wales, Australia. The
album presents lyrics based on the different dimensions of loss and will be released
on September 22nd on all the streaming platforms and as a limited CD Deluxe edition.
The first single of the album “BALANCE” was released on July 22nd with very positive
    critics.
