- It's actually called "AUM - Audio mixer" and it is not that different from a hardware audio mixer. Almost everything we need is already built into AUM and so it does not take long to set up. All we need is some mixer specs and about 8 minutes.

I was using Zero reverb in this video and you can grab it and Blamsoft Incs other free apps right here ➡️ apps.apple.com/se/developer/blamsoft-inc/id1051938244?l=en
That was really intuitive, and what a creative, in-depth group of developers that wrote AUM.
It’s one dude making AUM. Jonathan Liljedahl. He’s very active in the iOS scene and has been Co-developing apps with many other companies too. gestrument is one of them.
Again, your tutorials really highlight how incredibly well-designed Jonatan Liljedahl's work is. I, for one, am still kind of stuck in that mindset of throwing apps onto the chain, not really thinking about the mixing and mastering tools AUM has to offer, which I would be using in Cubasis or an actual mixing console. So this tutorial really is an eye-opener to start thinking of AUM more as a mixer, which, as you point out, it was in the first place!
Very good lesson and no BS Thanks
Thank you! Not only is this comprehensive but concise and explained in an easy to follow manner. I am a hardware musician trying to working in this virtual IOS world. Because I am so very familiar with hardware mixers, I can relate to and understand this!!! You have done all the hard work, I just need to follow. Thank you again. Love these edited/produced videos!
This changes everything! Thanks!
I had to laugh when you added the high shelf filter at 12kHz. I can't hear past 10kHz these days! But it's OK, because there's nothing happening up there anyway, right? lol
Genius - such a light cpu load and great flexibility (plus I really miss my Mackie 16-8 console). Thank you 🙏🏼
I would really love a series about AUM presets. Maybe the downloads could be included in your Patreon. I'm not a Patreon yet, but that could make me think about it!
Finally can get get rid d hardware stuff 😃🙏💪
A very useful tutorial.
Update! Three weeks after this post, I finally have it setup and saved. I cannot thank you enough for all you do. 👍🏾
Still cannot believe I have had AUM since its release, and this past year I’ve been using it quite often, thanks to your videos. I decided to use my Tascam Model 16 with the MPC One since the 2.10 update and Midi my iPad to the device with the audio routed to the mixer channel.
That’s awesome. So happy to hear that my work is able to help out fellow producers. 👊👊
Excellent video sir. I go one stage further with this kind of setup… I create a Master channel, usually use Mix Bus ‘M’ for Master and it’s purple! Everything gets routed through that as it would a standard mixer and I’ll normally have some kind of bus compression/limiting on there for jamming purposes. Nice one on the import function, I don’t know how many years I’ve been using AUM and I’ve never even noticed it, ha-ha… That’s going to open up all sorts of interesting experimentation with different projects! Peace ✌️
Haha, I also use different bus channels due to their colouring. I hope that we get more colouring options in the future, it’s really helpful.
Yes, this makes it possible to easily record the mix instead of/as well as individual channels, and to mute the master quickly. Each channel strip output is to bus M, then bus M is out to usb 1/2. I sometimes add a headphone send to each strip for cueing.
Yet another great idea for an AUM template.
Another fantastic video that pays for the time invested watching and following along. I have had a hard time getting my head around AUM but videos like this make it very clear some of the many ways it can be setup and re-used. Bravo!
Always great content. AUM should have you on their payroll.
Happy you like my work!
I like the way you make your videos. Very fine! I come from the Korg EA-1 Drum and Bass video 💙Subscribed 😋🙏🥳
Thank you and welcome to the channel!
Awesome video. Awesome app.
An excellent idea. Thanks, Jakob.
Great idea for a video dude! I’ve often thought about setting something like this up instead of relying on AUV3 EQs for everything and using up DSP. I’ve never got on with it though. Thank you so much for the inspiration. Take care man. :)
Thank you Jamie! 👊😊
Holy moly! I have the same mixer
They make good mixers!
I love this because I have that exact Mackie! As always your videos rock! I just setup my AUM and am going to play around with this. Awesome!
Tack så mycket Jakob! I’m just getting into AUM and enjoying your recent explorations of it! Aloha 🤙🏽
My pleasure! 😊
Great Vid, thank you Jakob
My pleasure!
Thank you for doing this. Most helpful.
Very nice!!
Cool.
Nice!
Thank you for another great tutorial!
My pleasure!
Awesome tips ! Thanks Jakob!
My pleasure! 👊
Fantastic video Jakob! thnx!
Thank you very much Ed!
Love this. Thank you!
My pleasure!
Great video, have to try how the AUM internal filters sound, never really tried them.
They’re pretty nice actually and I like that they’re so optimised. Pull almost nothing from the hardware.
Thanks, just Great, to the Point!
Happy you liked it!
Fantastic, I am stuck in the Philippines, far from my studio back home. Got and iPad 8th gen recently. I am working with AUM, patterning 2 & xequence to play MIDI. Is there any app like xequence to play audio files?
Thank you Jakob since I discovered your channel you made my life much easier
Thank you, very much! 🙏🏾
This video here is a big help, because I was thinking about doing something like this a week ago. I have the Tascam Model 16 and after watching this video I’m going to create a replicate setup of the device inside AUM. I wonder if I would be able to connect it to the Model 16 via USB as an audio interface like connecting to the MPC One?
Bro…. There a how-to book on UAM? Really ought to learn what this Swiss Army knife of the Digital audio world can do. :)
I’ll be making a “AUM for beginners” video at some point. But in the meantime there’s a bunch of tutorials on UA-cam that you can check. Search “Jacob Logan AUM” and “Gavinskis tutorials AUM”.
Definitely going to check out Aum now, thanks. Can Aum also be configured to control a channel strip in Ableton in a laptop or is it confined to work within iPad only?
Have you tried the maximum capacity AUM on an new Ipad 2021 "M1"? Do you have a proximity of How many average synths channels the CPU can manage? I am interesting in using AUM for Live Shows (i'm a keyboardist)
-
Thanks, and its a awesome UA-cam channel!!
I don’t own an M1 so I haven’t done any test with it. Also it’s very hard to get an average number like that because all synths take different amounts of resources to run. You’d have to test all of them to get accurate data. I’ve shown how different it can be by comparing two synths on an 2018 iPad Pro: ua-cam.com/video/TlLRUdEzugs/v-deo.html
Hi I have the Behringer flow 8 mixer and I’m wanting to know how to use AUM to control the mixer and other FX’s. Can you explain how I would set it up please? I try coming out the usb out of the mixer into the iPad but not having any luck..thanks
Who the actual f*ck dislikes these videos? People are odd.
🙌🙏🖖
Nice video but maybe you can help me understand something.
I'm using a soundcraft multi track mixer With AUM on my ipad I made a beat in koala And I have 8 pads mixing out of individual channels on the mixer But I want to put a effect on the final mix out but I have no channel for it Where is that channel If you understand what I'm saying
Hey Jakob I have an AUM question… I been using it for a year now and I’ve never notice you can add Audio Unit Extensions on a Midi Channel? Is that new?
It’s not new. Jonathan added that to AUM a few years ago along with the MIDI system. Not all apps can be loaded like this but If an app has a MIDI node that it’s advertising, then it can be loaded and used for the MIDI only. Pretty neat!
@@JakobHaq Yeah it is neat. Do you know any videos that explain its use?
Ace! I
Does it save midi mapping for each channel?
is there a way to sum bass to mono under say 200hz? I'm trying to make a "mastering" type chain for my octatrack, rather than buying the Elektron HEAT i be i can do better with some apps, like OTT.
do you have a video that has mastering apps/chain? Looking for quality EQ and/or filter.
You could create another channel and port audio to it via a bus. Then you just need to add a [mono] module from within AUM and a low pass filter set to 200hz.
You’d have to put a high pass filter on the first channel though so you don’t get any weird phasing.
When it comes to EQ I use FabFilter Pro-Q3. I did a video on it a while ago ua-cam.com/video/bYjAq2CI3bI/v-deo.html
For limiting I use FabFilter Pro L2
under 9 .... loll. why CAP the time .. when we all see the minutes ?
I’m counting the Tutorial/project time which starts at 0:47 and ends at 8:09 which is under 8 minutes. I don’t count the time that isn’t related to the actual setup.
