I just got my Haynes!!! I went into the whole process expecting to come home with a Japanese-made flute but ultimately narrowed it down to Haynes and Miyazawa after trying out over 20-ish flutes. Haynes won. It’s still being made and I’m so excited to get it!
Just bought a Q2 with the 14K riser, but I'm playing with a Powell Aurumite 14k headjoint instead (no insult to Haynes). The articulation clarity is insane...
@@MrsDallimore08 the Powell 14k. The Haynes is great, but the Powell is my favourite out of my 4. The response from the Haynes headjoint (w/ 14k riser) is a bit slower, but brighter with easier projection (even though the first octave is a bit weaker). The flute also has the best high E I've played out of all flutes without a split E.
Insightful review, as always! I actually didn’t miss the on-screen mouth diagrams, I seem to better understand the nuances of each flute by watching you figure them out for yourself. Thanks Joanna! 🎶
I love having more resistance to my keys on a flute as a piano player. That is why I carry a small screwdriver with my flute to make on the fly adjustments.
@@sueoh4744 trial and error is how I figured it out. If you adjust too tight keys won't move and if it is too loose keys move too much. Although I love my flute, she did not cost me that much so I am not afraid to try things on her.
In a previous video you compared the Q1 to the Q2. Do you find any differences between the Q2 and the Q3? The specs seem very similar. I'm shopping for flutes now but it's a slow process due to the pandemic. I have a trial with a Q1 and an upcoming trial with a Q2. I have a severe nickel allergy. The Q3 might be worth the extra cost for me just to know that if there is ever any wear to the surface I will not be exposed to nickel from under the plating. I adore the Haynes tone and I am really enjoying the trial with the Q1. Beyond the price difference and plated keys I'd love to know if you found and major differences between the Q2 and the Q3.
Omg I actually remember I realized something weird about that range a while ago and now I’m starting to figure it out. Also Joanna, do you think you can do a video on tone color? I’m always confused about how flutists can change tone color with the shapes of their mouth and I’m honestly confused about what general colors we can make and how they sound.
houtblazer I’ve only ever heard great things. My friend works for a flute retailer and she tells me that it’s the best of both worlds of a silver and gold flute. She claims that all the customers who have bought it, always seem to come back to the store to tell her how much they love it. She says not all buyers of flutes make a point to come back with such enthusiastic reviews. In fact, it might be my next flute!
Can you make a video testing wish flutes because I’m curious ( I’m not looking to buy one I just think it would be cool and also it would help beginners to find a starter flute)
Wow! I’ve tried a couple of Haynes and I really didn’t like them for me. You make it sound impressive! I’m surprised that my flute has similar specs and it’s not that price. I have a Powell Signature.
Interesting. I ended with a Haynes because it was my favorite of my blind play tests and the Powell Signature was my first immediate “no”. But I know tons of people who sound amazing on the Powells. Go figure.

Super excited to see what kind of Powell you will review for next month!
I JUST GOT A PICCOLO!!! YAY

Brendon Phillips the articulation clarity on which headjoint is insane?

Yes! I’ve been hoping to see you review this flute! Thoroughly enjoyed this review, thank you for doing it! Looking forward to the Powell next!

This flute really responds to you, Joanna. I love how it sounds in your hands. The 'front of mouth ball of air' makes total sense to me too.
I love your reviews. 20 minutes did not seem like a long time at all. Keep them coming and don’t worry about going “long”
I love this natural look so much better. You definitely don’t need makeup.
I still can’t get over how happy I am for you getting married! You deserve to be so happy.
Will you ever review a wooden flute?
I would love to see that!
Yes! Just what I wanted
I loved the harmonic!
Is very clean.
I love having more resistance to my keys on a flute as a piano player. That is why I carry a small screwdriver with my flute to make on the fly adjustments.
Mandy Hieatt how did you learn to make those adjustments? I fixed a leak myself once, but would be nice to have a chart for reference

I love and learn from every second of your reviews!
The sound is extraordinary ! I love this thank you ❤️❤️❤️
This flute actually sounded superp on you, Joanna. So many natural colors... I fell in love
Nightingale my friend plays a Haynes, and i do NOT like it. She sounds okay on it though! To each their own.

Wow Joanna, if you ever decide you want to get a new silver flute, that’s the one

It certainly had a powerful sounding tonal output.
Anyone experience with the Haynes Q-fusion?

Do you know if the trials are eligible for head joints or is it only for flutes?
I got a new flute yesterday
I am so surprised that the top F# came out so easily
How big of a difference is there between 9k rose gold and 15k rose gold? Well... besides price?(sound-wise)
LOVE you !
Can you review a professional Haynes flute? With the P and N cut?
Omg, have you ever thought of reviewing a glissando head joint
Can you make a video testing wish flutes because I’m curious ( I’m not looking to buy one I just think it would be cool and also it would help beginners to find a starter flute)
No wonder that flute looks HUGE in your hands. I didn't know that Brannens are a smaller tube.
oh yeah yeah
my flute! :D
Love u Lots Joanna
❤️❤️

I hope the next Powell review will be on the Signature model!

Hector Meza I’m pretty sure she has done that one already
Rylan Carpena I definitely prefer Haynes over most Japanese flutes though.
Rylan Carpena Which Haynes do you have?
The way you talk about what goes inside your mouth/oral chamber should be an ahhh haaaaa moment for most flutists. Ksaxman
I HATE metal buckles. They always dent and so I prefer plastic
Oh yeah Powell!! #TeamPowell
you deserve a lot more subscribers 😭 this channel is very entertaining and informative at the same time 🩶
