Thank you Sir, I know I can always count on you to help with the obscure/difficult translations! I'll update my list. You've probably told me these on previous machines but I forgot to keep a "definitive list". And I totally forgot that I didn't list a "delete" key at all!
@@Brfff Hi! This PC has no lower case in original form. Because it uses 7 bit encoding due to CRT controller chip 580ВГ75, clone of intel 8275. About keyboard special keys. I had trying to read describe of keyboard in original articles, but they not describe УС СС keys. But I was found the article about video terminal in the articles about preducessor Микро-80 : Клавиша РУС служит для формирования кодов русских букв, клавиша УС для формирования кодов различных управляющих и графических символов, а клавиша СС - для формирования колов специальных символов. But on the Микроша key СС replaced by НР - нижний регистр. The manual of Микроша says that symbols on numeric keys might be typed only with НР key. СС - специальные символы - special symbols (I think they means +!"#$%&'()= and others ) 580ВВ55 = 8255. One is for keyboard, another one is external parallel GPIO port. For example, it was used as EPROM programmer (with external Vpp supply). Also it was used for "ROM cartirges". There is monitor command "R - copy from external ROM to RAM" in original 86RK.
@@Brfff Seals : ОТК2 . ОТК - отдел технического контроля. This seal is like "QC PASS" label, but also a warranty seal. Character ROM has pencil (looks like pencil) text ЗГ - знакогенератор
Ahh, thanks for the seal info ... I thought I'd seen it before but didn't know what it stood for. Will keep a note! Regarding the ROM, the documentation seems to indicate it'll boot with РАДИО-86РК text so I'm assuming it's the same ... but I'll dump it just in case there is some small difference.
Thanks for the research! Yes, I think you're spot-on about the УС/СС keys ... I was reading the manual and found the character set listed, for example: Graphics characters: УС+[key] Punctuation marks (!"#...): СС+[key] And it seems to get a hyphen-like character: СС+ЗБ
Any time I see a membrane keyboard, especially one that is the same caliber as a ZX81, I get the urge to design a "real" keyboard replacement again. 😂 Typing on that keyboard would be like tapping on a watermelon, imo. But that is a very nice unit you've got there, Brett!
I'm actually thinking this could be a good candidate for a mechanical keyboard ... pretty simple replacement, once you managed to source the Soviet-era connector from Ukraine or Belarus. I still need to get my hands on the Slovak connectors for the SMEP PP01 ... need to email a person in Slovak and organise postage via another person!
That has to be one of the most pristine computers, East or West, that I have ever seen. It looks brand new. Interesting how in the prototyping area half of the holes are filled with solder already. And on an angle to boot. And did you notice the double caps on each of the memory chips? And that looks like conformal coating to me. How they managed to dip it and not fill the sockets with it and ruin them is a mystery. Possibly they sprayed it on and then hung the board up by the back of the computer. And yeah, it was well designed, and is a very pretty computer!
YES! As I was watching the video back I noticed the double caps! I really need to get a new pair of glasses (not used to wearing them, but it would make things easier!)
Did you ask ChatGPT multiple times in different sessions? It's a decent way to check if it's making stuff up, because it has a random factor and it often makes up pretty plausible theories and I can only reliably identify if they're wrong when I really know the subject matter, not when I'm just curious. If it answers the same in different sessions it's more likely it knows and isn't guessing.
Ahh, that's a good point! I did try twice with the [СС] (i.e. "SS" in Latin) key and it did give two different answers ... first one was "well, it's a total mystery!" and the second was "it's a shortcut for «СССР»". But I know I can usually rely on @Mercury13kiev to give good translations!
Well, I've got a few spare ... but they're not working. This is the guy I get most of mine from (in Slovakia). If you're looking at similar 8080 machines (based on the Radio 86RK design), he does have a few Alpha BKs, a Mikrosha and a Partner. www.ebay.com.au/str/dragonberseker
Once I found part of DIY case from, I think, DIY radio 86rk on the street when cycling. It was top part with cursor and F-keys. The main keyboard was missing. It seems was destroyed by someone, maybe homeless. For my opinion, after mid 1990s all those 8bit computers were perceived as garbage, because of appearence of second hand IBC PC compatibles. Only the presence of gold, palladium (green and orange capacitors) and other expensive mettals maked them valuable... for destroing and scraping.
СТР из probably Стирание, Delete
ЗБ = Забой, Backspace
УС = Управляющие символы, Ctrl
СС is probably Строчные символы? (lowercase characters)

There'd have to be the same dozen individual space bar keys on a mechanical version :)

Love that design for assembly. Well thought out and executed. An upgrade keyboard wouldn't be so hard either. Nice.
Awesome Video !

Cool! Hope you can get it to work :)

I would love to get hold of some Soviet computers but they are so expensive. I do have some soviet computer parts though.

I have the same thoughts. Faulty is fine as my joy is from making repairs and getting things working.
