When you're thinking about basic training for cats, the two most common things that people train their cats to do, if they're going to do other work with their cat, are to teach their cat to come when called and teach their cat to touch. Touch is an excellent tool when you're using behavior modification with a cat. It can help you get a cat out of a stressful situation and move your cat to an appropriate situation. It can also help you shape new tricks. Tricks can be great even if you don't need them as a way to enrich your cat's environment.
So, I'm going to see if I can get Frya interested in working with us today even though she's pretty snoozy. Hi little miss. So, I have some treats that Frya usually likes, and she knows they're right here so I'm going to see if I can reinforce or reward her for touching her nose to my finger. Frya! So, I'm going to stick my finger out close to where she is, and I don't know if you caught that but there was a tiny little nose touch to my finger and I gave her a treat. Now, these treats are much larger than I would normally use. Normally I would use about half this size but she really likes these treats and they're difficult to break up.
So, I'm giving her big ones today. So again, if we're going to teach her to touch, to start out I'm going to get her attention a little bit so she doesn't fall asleep on me again. I'm going to put my finger out close to her, I'm going to wait and see if she gets interested. With cats sometimes you have to wait longer than you think. Now, I've waited a while so I'm going to take my finger away and I'm going to re-present it closer.
Then, she touched and I'm going to give her the treat. Now, it might seem kind of silly to teach your cat to touch your finger, after all most of them do that naturally, but that's the reason we start work on that as a basic tool. Because if you try to teach your cat something that's not normal for them it's going to take you longer and be confusing for the cat whereas this one is a normal queue that many cats can learn relatively quickly and that you can use for behavior modification and training later. I taught my cat how to give a "high five" within 3 treats. He is so smart :)
In Las Vegas at the Planet Hollywood hotel and casino there is a Russian troupe that performs Comedy Pet Theatre. Cats rescued from local shelters are taught to perform amazing tricks and by using treats as positive reinforcement. It is an amazing show. See it if you can.
Never had to teach my cats anything, just show them love and respect and the rest comes naturally unless you want more complicated things which would require training.

My oldest cat has known me my whole life- from birth to now, and going up to and and reaching my hand out, she just automatically presses her face to my hand. She’s getting to that age where she might have to be put down, or might die from natural causes. It’ll be sad to see her go, but she has been such a loyal cat.

My cat begs (sitting on rear legs with front paws up) when I ask her if she wants some treats. She also gives her paw when asked and of course comes when I call her by her name. Everything is respect with a cat. Respect yours, learn their body and vocal language so you can "read" them and you'll be amazed at how they talk to you in so many ways. You'll forge a strong bond in no time and realize cats DO care about you It's all about acting with them in the right way, not as if they were little dogs.

My cat kisses my my nose on her own and she likes to lay her head on me.She sits in the backyard damn near all day and either i call her or she comes in when shes ready.Its not really about any treats as long as you bond and understand your pet.They will respect and listen to you.Just pay attention to your pet.Treats are for impatient people who want their pet to perform.

i have a cat named richard he's lazy usually hiding or chilling under the couch but were alright with it, anyways, my cat richard will start rubbing his head into my hand or if i twinkle my fingers he'll do it to so yeah i didnt even train him but he does it anyway he is super shy so when we have company he hides off somewhere... lol someone have any ideas to make him more social?

Thanks! A stray cat came to our house and settled in our garden lol, we couldn't help but feed her especially because she has two kittens. One that LOVES to olay and the ither is a tuxedo that isn't too playful with humans (it is smarter and more aware, the older one). If you want i can show you a picture of them somehow lol. Anything that makes people happy 😀

what if the cat doesn't like treats? Is it really a cat :) ? All she eats is dry food. no wet food,no home made food like fish chicken or other things. all she eats is dry food. is that a problem?
Wet food is healthier so it could maybe be a problem if she never eats it
Well she is not sick. i know for sure. the doctor said she is ok but she simply does not like it. I don't know how to make her eat wet food because i know that cats need wet food >.
