i was lucky to stumble into tae kwon do in Providence Rhode Island thanks to my older sister. Master He Il Cho. A true master at the time a 6th degree from Korea, a Korean national champion. I owe my current health and strength at age 63 to what I took from Tae Kwon Do when I first took at age 15 after brutal near crippling back surgery at 14. This was in 1971 mind you when I was 14 and no cat scans no MRIs etc.
Thank you sir for this tribute to Jhoon Rhee. I wish I'd met him, but heard inspiring stories from my instructors about his demonstrations and teaching by example. Best, Mark
I'm honored to have him as one of my 1st degree black belt judges in 1996...or was it 1999? My certificate with the date on it is still at my parents' house. I wish I could've met Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan.
The real problem is that his knees were hitting the ground and his upper body was barely moving, which just makes it so much easier since he was barely going down. He still did 100 in less than 60 seconds, which very few young athletes could have even done with that form. Very very impressive to have that kind of health and physical fitness at any age though, never mind in his mid 60's.
I studied in a Jhoon Rhee TKD dojo when i was alot younger. I have a co worker that did karate, and he was a first degree blackblelt. For some reason he sin't able to remember most of the stuff he was taught. Even though ive been out of the dojo for probalby about 20 years. i still have the kicking flexibility, and can remember the katas that we trained to do. Something that baffled me hella was in karate (my friends karate) he says they only taught about 4 kicks at most. That aside, i genuinely believe the Joohn Rhee schools are valid (they are more olympic style) but can still be practical. I hope they dont get turned into McDojos though, because i know i learned a lot from all the tae kwon do i took under their classes.
He was an impressive type of figure. I met him a few times. There were things I liked about him and things that really put me off about him. But, I respect his legacy. I only wish the network of schools that his organization gave rise to hadn't become the original McDojo prototype.

@@dassolosyndikat5113 His legs were hitting the ground. Still though, most young athletes who workout seriously don't have the health and physical fitness to do what he did. Some do, but most don't.
I wonder, what happened to the many schools in the various locations around Washington, D.C., after he died. Did they continue? Did they change their names? Did someone inherit them? Did they break up to be independent schools or absorbed by other organizations? The father of American TaeKwonDo, originally a graduate of the Chung Do Kwan, deserves huge amounts of respect. He can do more than you and most young athletes who take care of their health and workout. I've been working out real hard and doing push ups since I was I teenager, so for me it's not a problem to beat that. My cardio and strength are top notch. My weakness has always been flexibility. I was never genetically gifted to be flexible, and I don't work on it enough. My legs are really strong and I squat a ton because of hard work and my genetics for strength, but I can feel flexibility holding me back on that lift and some others. Id be even stronger than I already am if my hips were more flexible. Flexibility can make it so you're not quite as strong as you could be on some exercises. There are many other good reasons it's important too. I need to start working on flexibility and stretching daily, maybe some yoga. Jhoon Rhee was 64 and was a very impressive guy, RIP Jhoon Rhee.

Plain and simple, push ups are not all the way down. Using a rope, etc to lift your leg up? Can't even stand good but bounces. Not good foundation. But for his age is ok, demonstration is not all that neither. Real fight, nah.... Who he truly try to fool, for someone who already know Martial Arts for years, decades!
@@realtalk9169 I can spread eagle easy. I started to learned Choy Li Fut at 14 for 4-5 years, then Wing Chun for 3-4 years, now boxing for the last 3 years. We all practice weekly, friends got all kind of Kung Fu and boxing requirements where we all practice at his backyard.
This Grandmaster is getting senile because that is not a pushup. And I don't know why everyone is clapping to promote false pushups which is bad for the kids and bad for the shake of proper pushups. It's a shame.
What he is doing with the belt isnt hard at all his kicks were easy to do I have videos of myself doing them. While the cup thing i never did....i dont think my head is flat enough but my balance was and in any kick my head never moved up or down. The Push ups werent hard since they werent full push ups unless dick to the floor is a full push up. It is like those dudes who set punch speed records yet are not even throwing full punches please... Only at the end he goes a little further down.. Marines, Army, Seals, Rangers, Special Ops couldnt get away with those noobie push ups. Balance cup of stuff and brake boards now thats something i never thought off... A lot of uneducated people there. I never lost to a Tae Kwon Do person that god damn hopping and never using their hands is easy to get into and do all sorts of body damage. They freaked out when fighting them when i grabbed their hand twisted their amr and rammed a kick into ribs snapping them.. They would complain about me grabbing their hand of course waa waa waa wasnt against the rules they just didnt have any way and training fight that way....if they pulled their hand away they always left a huge opening to get in on They also complained I never wore any gloves just bare knuckles Screw protection on the street there is no protection Damn tournament babies. But that was the 80s and 90s I am still training in a 7th system at 53 its a bitch. Damn Wing CHun Do street fighting system and them odd stances and insane punching speeds are tiring...but adding it to what I already know yeah.. Rest in Peace Grand Master Jhoon Rhee and say high to Grand Master Jae Joon Kim for me and Nam Kim also my Instructor Grand Master William Thompson
So great balance weak push-ups, grandmasters of what again? Flexibility ok then😮 less than 5feet tall, 120lbs this isn’t a bad thing, no disrespect to any art cause they can work specially if can’t defend against it, fights usually end on ground & last 30 sec, sometime We learn the hard way specially if u never experienced it, I’ve done both& won titles but almost wished I spend more time doing grounds.
I not say anything. Okay I will. No better not. Well okay; you asked for it. Inclusive Jamesen Vior needs my support. This is again, what he say, a terrible illusion, of what "is not". Especially the youth, that want to train properly; this is not proper. It is idiocy. Forget that nonsense of "many ways to do pushups or age". When doing a pushup; one must go "all the way down" and "all the way up". To not do so; like in this silly video; what's developed is the shortening of the muscles. Without full extension and full contraction there is a great loss of muscle and tendon and ligament movements. To be very clear what this individual is doing and bless his little heart for being 64 for-sure, but he is doing about one-fifth of a complete and proper push-up. Inclusive the position he is holding his arms is also worthless and just silly. I do this all the time for just about everybody when I asked them show me your push-ups. They almost always are in that same position with the elbows and arms out wide. I tell them okay freeze and stay in that position. Now stand up holding your arms exactly the way you are doing the in your push up posture. Now start punching from that position and posture. And there it is. There is no proper alignment with the shoulder and arms for punching in that wide arm posture. Therefore, why would you develop your muscles and tendons and ligaments in such a position with such a push-up, when it is worthless. That is two strikes against this so-called master. I saw him do the same thing many years ago in front of the Senators as some great demo. It was just as silly and worthless then as it is now. There is a third strike, that being there are seven to nine inches in the shoulder for even more extension that is missing. I instruct to get those little arch-like handles that raise your hands off the ground 7 inches or so. Then when you do a push-up you go past the floor from the chest limitation, and you go all the way down till the shoulders are resting in the sockets to the full extension downward. Then when pushing up another 7 plus inches to full extended push-up position, with the elbows in, there is even greater strength in the arms shoulders and chest. I repeat the elbows are to be at the side of the chest just like the alignment in a straight punch as in Wing Chun. In addition I shall make it known that I have the greatest master in Taekwondo as my friend. He let us in his tournament (we won 7 trophies as this did not bother him at all. In fact he said it was great motivation to make his students train harder), and he even showed me the official Taekwondo manual that is derived from this Jhoon Rhee master. it says in there in black and white as I have read it. do not let any kung fu people join our Taekwondo School. do not enter into any of their tournaments and never allow a Kung Fu person in our Taekwondo tournament. I kind of knew the answer why this was done but I asked him anyway. Now this is really a Grandmaster and he left all the other Taekwondo circles. His answer was, they just don't like it in fact they hate it that the kung fu people always beat them. so perhaps of interest and perhaps not. This has never changed. I suppose that it will never change. for as they will not share and allow them self, meaning all of Taekwondo to share and to grow and to improve. in 100 years they have never done so and they never will. I really should not have even bothered anybody and posted here. But there it is. the illusion of what something is that is not even close to being what it is supposed to be, being shown what it is not. So okay. good here is something good. I disagree that he is not senile and is in complete possession of his mind and senses. Unfortunately his mind is blind and his senses are dim, to think he is presenting something to the world that we are going to accept. oh does anybody need to ask? of course I am Kung Fu and Tai Chi and none of what he does is acceptable. Just irked me is all. Do not anybody be offended, as it is not my intention to do so. Most especially those direct students of this teacher. you are actually there because of karmic conditions of learning your life lessons and experience with this individual. I know this is not very well known to just about everybody, but this is just to support those that make comments that are his students and think he is just the greatest. To you he is the greatest and that is cool or as it should be. However to us that knows better it is just more of the illusions that exist in martial arts. Bottom line; I need a calculator. Being a realistic 1/5th pushup; he needs 5 to do one real one. The so-called 100 must be divided by 5. So okay. He really did 20 pushups with 3 strikes for posture. Thsrs all i got.

😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wrong push ups
He should have performed some katas and techniques , though he was good for his age .👍
Mannn,,, this cu#ts tough...😎😎
Ridicule cet entraînement. On comprend mieux les propoq de Bruce Lee.
What crap is that?
not crap .... clap
But Bruce lee is much better than him.
@@tongpeter at some things but not kicking
이게 뭐가 대단한건지... 96-32 하면..64세때 저런겨?? 흐음;;;
This master isn't a good example of Taekwondo. The whole point of Taekwondo is to stay humble and not wear gold and show off muscles.
He was a salesman
Plain and simple, push ups are not all the way down. Using a rope, etc to lift your leg up? Can't even stand good but bounces. Not good foundation. But for his age is ok, demonstration is not all that neither. Real fight, nah.... Who he truly try to fool, for someone who already know Martial Arts for years, decades!
The question is Jimmy can you do it..
LOL! ULTIMATE BULLSHIDO
Wow!
This Grandmaster is getting senile because that is not a pushup. And I don't know why everyone is clapping to promote false pushups which is bad for the kids and bad for the shake of proper pushups. It's a shame.
There are many ways to do pushups ....
Well said
J Vior Get over it.
He is 64 at the time of this video. Doing a heck of job.
u really dissing an old man? really? did you think he was immortal or sumethin lmao? 64 and can kick your butt:D
They would complain about me grabbing their hand of course waa waa waa wasnt against the rules they just didnt have any way and training fight that way....if they pulled their hand away they always left a huge opening to get in on
They also complained I never wore any gloves just bare knuckles
Screw protection on the street there is no protection
Damn tournament babies.
But that was the 80s and 90s
I am still training in a 7th system at 53 its a bitch.
