There are two more videos made by Lana herself: one for "Carmen" and the original/alternate video for "Blue Jeans". Both are in the style of the "Video games" video. The one for Carmen feels somewhat darker in tone and features some footage of Lana performing on stage and with her and a young man hanging out in the streets. She has it in her official UA-cam channel. The alternate Blue Jeans video features some behind the scenes footage of the photoshoot for the BTD album cover, she has that outfit and is seen inside the truck from the cover, she lip syncs some of the lyrics too. This video was once in her UA-cam but apparently was removed, if you want to review it look for it as Blue Jeans original video or first video.
Yo Taylor, just a heads up, don’t believe everything people say in the comments, because a lot of Lana fans are uneducated and will continue to give you false information simply because they’ve heard rumors and don’t care to research the truth! For example, many people believe this song is about a friend of Lana’s who committed suicide, but there is zero evidence of that! In fact, Lana has stated that she wrote this song when staying in Santa Monica with her composer and best-friend-at-the-time Daniel Heath. She would “sit under the telephone wires and listen to them sizzle in the warm air,” and think about how summertime felt both “sad and gorgeous” to her.
okay, but what about the music video? you guys keep saying that "oh there's no evidence of that" when the video is actually the evidence itself. if you say she's just making a music video about suicide for a summer that was sad and gorgeous to her then you are adding to the misconception that lana was glorifying suicide (which made kurt cobain's daughter francis call her out on)
The suicidal aspect in the video could represent many things: it could signify the tragic end of a physical relationship, it could represent Lana’s love for a certain person (whether that means she’s STOPPED loving them, or that her love will live on through devastation and pain, which seems more likely), it could represent her personal doom in the realm of electric love, or it could really be about the suicide of a friend. My entire point is: people are STATING that Lana’s friend has committed suicide and that that’s what the video is about, but there is no evidence for that. That’s all! And even if one of those possibilities I’ve listed above are true, I personally wouldn’t say Lana is glorifying suicide.
From wikipedia: The music video for "Summertime Sadness" was filmed in April 2012 in Santa Clarita, California. It was directed by Kyle Newman and Spencer Susser. Newman's wife, actress Jaime King, stars along with Del Rey in the video, which tells the sad story of two women, who both end their own lives. King said about the video that, "It's about not being able to live without the one you love, friend or lover it doesn't matter, that's whatever you want it to be." Actor Alex Pettyfer reportedly also helped out on set as a production assistant. The music video opens with a woman saying, "Remember, I'll always love you, bye". After the phone call, Del Rey sings the opening lyrics and jumps off the cliff. The next scenes tell the story about two women (played by Del Rey and Jaime King) who have become suicidal. In the next scene, the forlorn King seeks out the nearest bridge in the city, then stands on its ledge in a tear-stricken state. The next scenes depict a statue of Jesus Christ, Del Rey looking onto the distance and a phone smashing into pieces as it hits the floor, hinting at Del Rey's realization that her girlfriend has killed herself. Feeling at fault for her lover's death, Del Rey spreads her arms wide mimicking the statue of Jesus Christ and jumps off the cliff. The last scenes show both women in happier times, Del Rey turns to see King and smiles; both women are seen pouting and glancing seductively over their shoulders towards one another. As the women embrace, the smoke in the atmosphere gathers and they disappear. It's shown, after both suicides, that a haunting image of Del Rey (presumably her ghost) is seen walking down a long road towards the camera
lana is the ghost from the very beginning, her friend is in grieving state but couldn't handle the pain so she ends up jumping off the bridge. I love this song and MV, Miley Cyrus een covered this song I hope you watch/listen to it too. thank you XO
Fun fact! Alex Pettyfer was going to play the love interest but there was a change of direction and he ended up helping out on set instead. Jamie’s husband is the director of Lana’s videos.
The song is about the ghost called the lady in red and the lady in white. At the end she's the lady in white walking in the road. The bridge is known to be a place where people commit suicide by jumping off it. The line kiss me hard before I go. Means she's going somewhere and won't be back because there's no return . If you look at the music video there's a lot of spiritual symbolism.
Those slow-mo shots of the girls in a puff of smoke... I've been in love with it since the first day. The whole music video should have been like that.
You can do Young and Beautiful and Burning Desire when you’ll do the Paradise EP because they’re both great songs with music videos but the are not in any álbum. She released those to songs right after the Paradise EP thats why I think that it might be a good idea! It’s just a sugestion 😁
I actually consider “Burning Desire” to be a part of ‘Paradise’, because the song is actually officially included in the iTunes version of the album. So hopefully he’ll remember to include the song when he reacts to ‘Paradise’ on Monday. But yeah, “Young and Beautiful” was only a single produced for The Great Gatsby, so he’ll have to react to the song and music video separately, if he wants to.
Concept idea: they were best friends/lovers and Lana’s character committed suicide, the bff or lover was haunted by her spirit and wanted to be with her so she committed suicide too, the shadow at the end walking with Lana is her
I think too that she is probably singing from the perspective of the girl in red dress, I noticed it just a few weeks ago. Also, if you go back to the MV of Blue Jeans, in the final scene, where the guy is dragging her under the water, she is making the crucifixion pose too.
You’ve got a very nice interpretation my friend. You caught so well the video message. It has to be so hard to fight with the feeling of losing a very close friend and hasn’t been able to avoid it. I really enjoy watching people getting introduced to Lana’s stuff and really trying to feel it. You seem like you’re gonna become a big Lana like all of us. I discovered Lana like 7 months ago so we’re not that far haha. Another thing I wanted to tell you is that out there someone suggested you to watch the Tropico short movie. Well, this is a must but after Paradise album, so, not yet haha. And one thing more, I’d just wanna tell you that you have a very understandable English haha (I speak Spanish)
I’m definitely playing catch-up on this deep dive but I am so impressed with your reactions. You are awesome and I love how in depth you get. I would love you to try Hozier next!! ❤️ from Ireland
And the white dress thing, it would be the "ghost world" just as the young woman appears with wet hair at the end and we can also see Lana's ghost crossing the bridge meeting the young woman.
This mv is about her best friend who’s killed herself (Lana is playing this role) and that second girl shows Lana’s emotions about it - she perhaps for the moment wanted to join to her bf and kill herself too
This song is about her friend who committed Suicide in summer hinting it in the music video and lyrics. Apparently, Lana still struggles with the loss of her death.
Carmen is an absolute must before you move on from this album. Its long & very intense while also taking a long time to process everything that went on in the video. It’s amazing!!!
I like your reaction analysis. But everyone can inerpretet the video as they want. Because it's art. And for me the woman and Lana are lovers. I think is not about sueccide at all. It's about summertime sadness. Summertime love what goes away or ends ( like in Call me by your name) and it feels like dying inside. Or it could be summertime is ending...and the sadness of that.
IIRC this song was about a friend of Lana who commited suicide. My interpretation of the video is that just Lana trying to empathize and understand with what she was going through when she did it. I don't really think she was depicting her own suicide in the video.
The song is NOT about a friend of Lana’s that committed suicide. There is ZERO evidence of this. Lana has NEVER stated this, so stop spreading false information. You’ve done this before on past videos, and to someone discovering Lana for the first time, he’ll believe anything we say. Research what you say before leaving comments, please!
Crillnm then why did she put her friend in the music video and both of them jumping off a bridge? And both of them appearing in ghostly images? Not hating your theory, I just wanna know what it's really about.
[Toe Beanz] Because the video is ABOUT suicide, and what that signifies in terms of a relationship Lana had, obviously. I’m not saying it’s not about suicide, I’m saying: it’s not about a friend of Lana’s who committed suicide in real life. That’s like saying the National Anthem video is about a friend of Lana’s who got shot in the head.
Summertime Sadness was written about Lana's best friend who committed suicide. ... Girls especially show their love for their best friends in numerous ways, in this case she is kissing her best friend goodbye. She also wants to see her again so she can tell her how much she meant to her and how much she loved her.

Omg yes!!

The lady in red is Jamie King- actress .
I never noticed the dress color but you did omg you’re so good at this
OMG😭😭😭
I didn’t either!
I love how this song has such a deep meaning and they made it into a remix to dance to smh 😩
And the remix is the one that one the award ... the audacity..
Yeah that’s kind of messed up 😂
Adriana Murrillo yes! Exactly SMH 😒
I hate that remix so much... :( The original is infinetly better imho.
