Leinster house. O.P.W. Bicycle shed and security hut costing almost two million euros a fraction would have went a long way in restoration of this beautiful house.
During the recession the lead valleys in the beautiful gate house were ripped out for scrap by some thieves. That was near 14 years ago and what was a minor job to fix at the time, now has the buildings roof severely damaged over the year’s of neglect. The OPW are a joke. The stables out the rear of the building are also destroyed. Where the horses were kept once had parquet flooring, panelling on the walls & cornice’s on the ceilings. Horrible to see 😔
Its not that the OPW are a joke. The State does not care enough to pour some decent money into the upkeep of our historic monuments. I have worked with the National Museum and the OPW and I can tell you, they do not get one fifth of the funding that is required for so many projects and maintenance of our Historic monuments. You see, we care more about the housing crisis and the cost of living crisis, than we do about our historic heritage. Sad, but so fucking true. The nation would be enraged if money was going to the upkeep of these houses and not to the building of affordable housing that we so desperately need. As long as the Irish people care only about themselves. I'm afraid we will lose so many of these precious monuments to decay and delapidation. And I say all of this before talking about mismanagement of funds by politicians.

Sorry, I'm from the mainland so I don't know what OPW stands for. It is a beautiful location that should be converted into a hotel for paying guests and not illegal migrants. I enjoyed the accompanying music as well. Thanks.💥❤💥❤💥❤

They should fix up the smaller cottage and have a property caretaker live there, to cut down on vandals and do maintenance until it can be restored.

Don't forget the owners of this the tolers of durrow had a terrible reputation on the irish people during the great faminine of 1846 1851
Most of the big houses had a bad reputation during the famine. Hence, a lot of them were burned during the war of independence
