This is one of Great America's classic coasters. I will be truly heartbroken if the Whizzler is removed. Love this coaster!!
Me too!!!
+BryceFourn 2001 I'm serious BryceFourn 2001. I would be 💔(Smile). Have a great day though. ☺👍💯
+71marsha You too
+BryceFourn 2001 Thanks!✔
The park wanted to remove it in 2003, however an outcry from enthusiasts meant it became an ACE coaster landmark, which basically guarantees it's survival.
The amazing part about this ride is you really see people of all ages on it, for a lot of kids this is their first roller coaster, and a lot of adults still love going on it cause it reminds them being a kid when they went on for the first time, plus it’s just a really fun ride!
I always wondered why enthusiast were so adamant about making this a classic and a landmark. Though rode it for the first time last year and it's such an underrated ride so I get it. It's fairly smooth, fast, and fun. The trains and lift make the ride though. Such an exciting and unique experience. Became number 7 in my top 10 coasters...and that's coming from someone who prefers rides like Maxxforce or Top Thrill Dragster. If you go to Great America do not miss out on riding this gem.
The way the lift hill echoes in the woods... the classic steam engine noise it makes along the track... the passionate group of operators that run this ride... and the astonishing close up views of Maxx Force this coaster gives
Maxx Force has changed the atmosphere a bit. It adds a jump scare element to the que. Lol
The best coaster to ride at night.
that is so true!
Raging bull at night or superman
@@kevinmurphy5508
Superman is definitely the best to ride during the sunset.
Went last week, and seeing the sun setting down while riding it was truly amazing!
@@nahomis.4085 I just went yesterday and the one thing I can complain about Superman is when your going up it’s so scary because your like what if the seat falls even though I know it’s not it’s just scary
Omg yes
This was the first roller coaster I have ever riden when I was only 5. And I'm happy to say than I am 13 and to see these coaster still here. Also I'm going tomorrow! Going to be my 8th time going!
Jose Martin It was my first to! First rode it when I was 5 too!
Jose Martin mine to I was 5 also lol except they removed it at Great America in Santa Clara Ca 🙁
Have fun
It was my first too
I’m going Sunday def gonna ride this
This coaster has always been and is my favourite over the years at Six Flags in Gurnee, IL. For me it was always about that spiral lift and just overall fun feel ot this coaster that kept me a fan over the years. Wish they'd make this a landmark with such history...😃
I remember going on this for the second time and when we were going up the helix chain lift, this one little kid screams”I’M GOING TO DIE!”😂😂🤣🤣
The helix chain lift is call a Spiral lift.
This was my first rollercoaster. Born and raised in Illinois, Great America is basically Disney world for Illinois. The Whizzer is that ride where you start the day and end it every time you go to the park. It should never be torn down. Updated yes, torn down, never.
The sound of that lift hill will always bring me back to my childhood.
This was the first coaster I ever rode. It was the summer of 1976, and I was seven years old. Rode it with my dad. I'm 50 now. Thanks for uploading this. Brings back great memories!
When i got on this.
I was like
Okay, this is easy.
Nooo. I screamed my butt off.
I have to go back this Monday.
Ive always love how the cranking sound of the spiral lift hill adds to the mechanical mystique and old charm of the ride. This and Deja Vu will always have a place in my heart as the most mechanically charming rides of Great America
I first rode this in October of 1977. I can't remember if I rode this or The Turn of the Century first, but they were my first big roller coasters. Willard's Whizzer is a fun ride, with a really unique opening lift hill. I can still remember watching my Dad lose his hat as they went down that first long hill. Great memories! Thanks for posting.
Thanks for sharing your memory ! I'm glad that they still have this classic ride up and running. There's not many that still exist like this anymore.
gotta love those classic Schwarzkopf coasters. They may not be the most adrenaline-fueled rides, but damn are they fun.
I wanna start screaming Whizzer Going Down during any and all drops on this thing
I was screaming yee haw on every ride last time i went bc the voice telling you to strap in and all that on raging bull yells yee haw
I love this old coaster. I use to ride it a lot on every visit going back during the 80s during my high school /college years. Six flags in Gurnee use to have also during the 80s a monster Arcade room that had rows and rows of arcade machines of every type. Man, I miss those days... When I first saw the spiral lift on this coaster, I knew I'd enjoy every ride on it.
Do you remember the Turn of the Century coaster at Great America? It predated the Demon, sometime in the 1970's...That was back when it was Marriots Great America
@@davidgordon702 Yes it was a lot of fun to ride...also I "Think" it was first in "Old Chicago in Bolingbrook, IL." back in the days as an indoor coaster. Before Marriot's Great America? Or maybe that was the start of those types of looping coasters? I just remember, thinking wow, it's cool that they have one of these now at Great America back when.
The Whizzer is actually the first roaler coaster I've ever got on. Memories indeed.
Same
I love that you get a great view of the park at the top of the coaster
What I like most about the Whizzer is you spiral serenely up to the top instead of lurching up a 60-degree incline as on most coasters. It's a much more pleasant ascent.
Classic. One of the first roller coasters I ever rode. Would have been a shame if Six Flags had torn it down.
So sad they removed this from CGA. This video brings back crazy deja vu memories. Been over 30 years. Amazing
Yeah it's been a long 30 years since it's closed at the Santa Clara Park
I was wondering if this was the same coaster. I remember it!
I'm pretty sure if you're afraid of heights this is the frist ride you go n
amy taylor yep I did lol
The 2 rides I like are whizzer and little dipper
@@atabb I like The Whizzer and The Batman
The Whizzer holds a special place in my heart because this was the first roller coaster that I rode as a kid. It's still one of my favorites and although I haven't ridden it in awhile, I do plan on writing it again.
A funny story that I would like to share with you all, I rode this with my mother. At the time we were staying in an apartment complex in Chicago, and we took the trip to Great America the whole complex for a day of fun. So we all got in line to get on the Whizzer and they went on the cars ahead of us, the second line of cars came around me and my mom got on and we were the in the third car from the front. Now the ride has taken off, my mother is literally trying not to cuss a blue streak, I said "hey Ma look at me" and I threw my arms up like they do on the coaster, when it hit the turn over the water I felt myself slipping out then I grabbed the handle in front of me and just smiled! My mother gave me this look as if to say "if you do that again I'll push you out myself"
Ahhh the reason I started riding roller coasters. I hadn’t really been into riding them until I rode this. I have a soft spot for this ride for sure!
Every roller coaster needs a lift Hill like this
@WaterishDog there's several other remaining Schwarzkopf coasters with the electric spiral lift, including Jet Star 2 at Lagoon.
@@jmanx360 i've been on dat
I went on Whizzer for the very first time and honestly I really enjoyed this roller coaster. I am so glad that this roller coaster is still running.
One of my favorites! It's just fun and perfect for kids going from little kiddie coasters to bigger ones.
I love the whizzer!
We went to the Whizzer like a few weeks ago. One of my favorite rides! The thing is we got stuck :( The good thing is at the end, we go Flash passes :) This ride makes my day!
I got stuck on the Viper and also got flash passes :)
Bringing back memories to 1993. 😀
Such a classic. I always enjoyed this one
love this coaster. I went on it for the first time when GA opened in Gurnee, IL. I thought I was so cool for going on such a big ride at 11 years old !!
Whizzer ain’t that big
Love it - this coaster is a classic. Certainly the first one I ever rode (not including the little one at Santa's Village.) Those trees sure have gotten tall! :-)
This is the perfect starter coaster. Plus its still fun as hell as an adult
whenever i have trouble falling asleep at night, i just pretend i'm on the whizzer
The Whizzer (the long gone one at CA's Great America) was the very first coaster I ever rode, way back in 1977.
It looks SO good !!!!!!! I can’t wait to ride it this may!!!!
I remember this kiddie coaster. I went to Six Flags way back in the day...lol. 1983 I think. I remember the Demon, the American Eagle, and the Whizzer so vivid. The Demon almost made me crap myself. I had NEVER ridden a roller coaster. I was terrified of heights, so I begged for the back car, UNKNOWINGLY UNAWARE that the back car was NUTS. You got the full force of the G's as the cars whipped you over the top. Same with the American Eagle. Another almost poop experience. But after a few rides I started to LOVE coasters and I was HOOKED. HELL YEAH!!!! After that it was just fun and insanity.
I went from having never ridden a rollercoaster... to one day, riding this, Shockwave, and Demon in one visit with my orchestra mates back in Jr. high. Good times.
Omg I love this coaster so much. I was at Over St Louis today but Great America is my favorite
Been on it at least once. It is a rollercoaster without loops, but you face those wild heart-racing banks at a speed of 45-50 mph on the drops after all of those ascents. This is how I summarize riding on The Whizzer.
I went to Six Flags for the first time during Fright Fest in 2017 as the age of 10. This was the first ACTUAL rollercoaster I've been on. Every time it turned I felt like I was about to fall out, though I rode in the same car as my Mom and it wouldn't happen anyway. The second time was when I went with my best friend and we rode some spinning rides like Fiddler's Fling. (I think that's what it was called..) and another spinning ride that was partially indoor, but I forgot what it was called. I've only been to Six Flags twice. And I go to that park because.. Well.. I live in Illinois!
One of grandpa's favorite rides
This was one of the very first coasters if not THE first coaster I had ever been on.
Looks Great! It hauls!
This reminds me of the Zambezi that was at Worlds of Fun but was taken out some years ago it looks like a very fun ride
Whizzer is a classic coaster that deserves to stay
When we went to Six Flags, I’ve never rode a roller coaster and I was really scared of riding this. I was acting like a baby.
Awesome POV! I love the Whizzer!!!! :)
I know right. It might be old but it's handling its buisness. My favorite seater is the bk coaster. LoL
+71marsha LOL
+BryceFourn 2001 ☺
This was my first roller coaster in the 80s
I have a season pass and can go all the time but my favorite rides are xflight and raiging bull
This is our family's favorite coaster! The best time to ride it is at night too!
Looks like such a fun coaster!
This was my first roller coaster at the clone in Santa Clara, CA. Lol
I went today this was my first roller coaster
go on x flight and raging bull
Songoku 9 Went on both last Sunday. Raging Bull twice.
cool
Brianna Austin SAME
I love this ride minus the fact I have gotten stuck on this ride about twice. Still a favorite. Good for kids too
I love this roller coaster
This roller coaster has always reminded me of a bobsled.
One of my first coasters (went on the Matterhorn at Disneyland when I was 4 or 5 and the American Eagle the same day I first rode the Whizzer (I was about 7)). Heard it was going to be removed for Superman Ultimate Flight, but public outcry kept it from happening - so the Shock Wave was dismantled instead.
My first Coaster, 1985-6, time flies.
Coaster-Type 'Extended Jumbo Jet' from Schwarzkopf GmbH, Munsterhausen, Germany.
A classic coaster from 1976!
Six flags great escape has one of these coasters.... Canyon Blaster is its name ❤❤❤❤ that ride.
I’m going here on Monday! I haven’t been to great America but I’ve been to great adventure. Wish me luck I guess XD
This was my first rollercoaster and I rode it at night it was amazing
This looks fun.
NICE FRONT SEAT ON WHIZZER ROLLER COASTER AT SIX FLAGS GREAT AMERICA !!!
I do love this roller coaster but one time on one of the turns I hit my ear on the seat but it hasn't happened to me after that
Well i'm very happy that both Whizzer and Batman the ride at Six Flags Great America are true Ace landmarks. So i hope someday if i'm in Illionois i better check it out.
This was my very first roller coaster that I ever ridin den on. I remember waiting in the line, totally scared out of my mind. ( Keep in mind, that I was twelve years old. lol ) Anyways, right after that, my mother made me go on the American Eagle. Wow ! That was a complete change in dynamics. I remember wanting to turn around, after waiting almost two hours in the line, for the red train. My mother talked me into it, and I totally loved it. Since than, I have been a total coaster enthusiast, and am always searching for the fastest, most inversions, and most insane coasters out there. To date, Steal Vengance is my favorite coaster. And unfortunately, at my home park, Great America, Goliath is the closest thing to it. It is similar, but it is quite shorter then Steal Vengance is...
This was my first roller coaster when I was 9 and I'm 10 now and I'm still terrified of roller coasters😂😂
The Santa Clara GA used to have The Wizzer too. It’s a shame they dismantled it.
At any theme park you have to keep some of the old ones as part of history and nostalgia.
The first time I went on this one I was 2...loved it
This was my first roaller coaster I had ever been on
This was the first roller coaster I went on!
I watch these the day before going to six flags and I get so scared and when I go on them it's not even scary there fun
Ride it front row all the time lol kinda hard to have hands up
I’ve been going to six flags for half my life and I still ride this roller coaster first
Scarier than I thought it was going to be
Yea it was pretty intense
This was the first roller coaster i ever went on and i was 6 when i went on because of this ride i go on others like raging bull i hope this ride never gets shut down
This coaster lost a bit of its scenery in favor of a jaw-dropping view of Maxxforce. Soon that area will be re-landscaped though
This is my 3 year old favorite ride every time we go to six flags he has to ride it
I really miss this coaster. They removed it from CA's Great America.
I remember people were pissed when Great America threatened to remove this ride. Good thing they didn’t
I think Great America in Santa Clara had this ride back in the Marriott days. Was called "The Wizard," there. Or maybe I'm misremembering and it was actually Whizzer 'cuz I was about 8 years old at the time.
[edit]
Nevermind! Was called The Whizzer. I was just an 8-year old D&D dork at the time, so I remembered it as The Wizard. lol.
It is fast but I LOVE THE ROLLERCOASTER ITS AMAZING
lost my hat on this ride will forever be known as the hat thief
Why could they keep shockwave, and the whizzer two of my favorite rides
The former big bend coaster from sixflags over Texas
yo i swear i'm deadass real on 4th of July i got on this ride all the way in the front and it went Even faster then when u r on the other seats
Lucky, you actually should make it a priority to ride the front seat on coasters... Usually that is where the best seat is on older coasters such as this.
My favorite ride at Great America
10yo me: Lifetime coaster addiction in 3…2…1…
I feel like this coaster would fit great at a park like Knoebels.
Don’t make them anymore I think Schwarzkopf’s Bayern kurve were the best same kind of seats only one still operates at Kenny wood this company out of business parts must be outrageously pricey
If this was at cedar point it would have become a restaurant 20 years ago.
Can I use your on ride for my own video I put the link of your video in the description and your channel in the corner of my video
Hi There, is it possible for me to use this and a few other POVs of yours to make a video about the top Schwarzkopf coasters? I will give full credit and link your channel in the description
they should make the water in the pond green or red for Fright Fest and install underwater lights that would be awesome considering it's called biohazard during Fright Fest
Thats what they do....
Keely Villarreal I don’t think they do then water underneath the ride they do the pond at the main entrance
@@stephanielopez65 actually yes ive seen it red
@@keelyvillarreal3583 I'm sure that looks really sweet
@@keelyvillarreal3583 sure that looks really sweet
I’ve been on this ride I love it
I’m terrified of coasters and I’m in line for this rn
I backed out lol
I backed out lol
This ride really tires you out. When me and my mom when on it I put my head on her shoulder and whispered, "I'm gonna pass out," because of how tired I was.
My first roller coaster since maybe 2000. I went Saturday. This scared me shitless. Going back next month for Superman.
