Check out my thoughts on the newest Soulslike, The First Berserker: Khazan! - ua-cam.com/video/t86ykxQ3c0Y/v-deo.htmlsi=mb6IuWLIkWoPt4RE What did you think of Askin's off-screen defeat of Ichigo? Did you like it, or did it hurt Ichigo's character so late into the story? Was it even necessary at all? Let me know your thoughts below - thanks everyone!
@@MrTommo2304 I didn't find anything wrong with it. It just shows that hax can sometimes circumvent characters abilities. Wanna real hot take? Guenael Lee could take out most of the Bleach universe and nobody would even"remember"how it happened. 😏
This might seem strange, but am I the only one that wasn’t actually surprised when this happened? It doesn’t happen an awful lot in Bleach, but power compatibility is very a thing in Bleach, and Ichigo is basically raw power and speed with no nuance. In MOST per systems, you shut down Fighter/Barbarian style opponents via strong debuffs. This was never any different to me.
Tbf any character looks less intimating in Bleach is utter weakest so like how kubo deceived readers into thinking askin 1 and done it character and that whole point 😅
Not only Kubo off screened the main character, but also turning him into a rug. Ichigo was lucky that Askin was not standing on top of him wiping his legs
I always took the scene of Ichigo's loss to Askin to mean that no matter how powerful a character is, hax has a way of circumventing that character’s power and there are such things as bad match ups.
100 percent. Ichigo uses his soul powers very directly. It's just an "ichigo's reishi" blast. ichigo also tends to go all out right away, so Askin is able to adapt extremely quickly.
I think Ichigo with knowledge of Askins abilities would probably just kill him in one attack but Askin almost always had the advantage of people underestimating him or not just not understanding his abilities
To be fair. Askin was about to defeat Oetsu if it wasn't for Tenjiro intervention. Tenjiro also get defeated by Askin once he is revived. That alone proves that Askin can take on any character in the series regardless if they're stronger than him or not for the most part.
Yep even tenjiro gets whooped by askin after claiming he was a terrible match up to excuse why he was runny away. After beating oetsu askin said people tends to underestimate him because of his demeanor and way of talking, I just take what askin said as 1 of the biggest reason why he keeps beating multiple enemies far superior to hip in stats. Plus his shrift is very op and sneaky so very hard to defend against
I think something that doesn't get brought up enough is that Yhwach specifically sends certain Quincy to certain fights. I think he knew that Ichigo's group wouldn't just immediately one-shot Askin like Shunsui's group may have. He also knew that Lilie would probably get blitzed by Ichigo and sent him against a group where he had more cover against a group with more targets. He even kept Gerard close to him in case the others failed.
All the jocks were getting bodied this arc and having to be saved by the "wimpier" nerds lol (Mayuri saving Kenpachi, Kisuke doing more to Askin than Ichigo or Grimmjow could, Byakuya performing the finishing attack on the last form of evolved Gerard they could reasonably fight against, Aizen tricking Yhwach to give Ichigo an opening, Uryū standing against Haschwalth so Ichigo and the others could leave, etc.)
Yeah thats an excellent exemple , not only zaraki didn't take pernida seriously but also kenpachi still hadn't fully recovered from his injuries from his previous battle with grimmy and the other sternritters which bearly survived thanks to ichigo intervention And as if it wasn't enough, he also didn't bother to remove his eyepatch lol, only used 1 hand to slash pernida and didn't even activate his shikai😂😂😂😂😂All of the factors needed for pernida to have a chance of beating kenpachi were assembled in 1 single instant which created this highly highly unlikely outcome of pernida wining and mayuri saving Kenny lol. In normal circumstances razaki 1 shots pernida just like oetsu. Thats 1 of the thing about bleach that I learned to appreciate with time, because 10 years ago I was pissed when I saw ichigo get off screened by askin and Kenny losing to freaking pernida.
@tobiisagoodboy8510 lol 🤦 pernida got 1 shot by base oetsu (no special ability was used just speed) and than pernida needed yhwach to resurrect her, showing us that you can 1 shot her if you are powerful enough ...... Kenpachi's shikai is so broken it can literally 1 shot the entire sereitei and make it disappear in an instant (sereitei is the size of a country like Turkey) pernida doesn't have 1 chance in hell...... Pernida is only a problem when you don't 1 shot her. If we had to do a list of the luckiest characters in bleach pernida would be very high on the list Forget about the Kenny shikai, all he needs to 1 shot pernida is 2 hands and removing his eyepatch to 1 shot pernida.
I love that Askin of all people off-screened Ichigo. You have him running away at the drop of a hat , yet he just humiliated the protagonist. Just proves why's he is my favourite member of the Royal Guard.
yeah of all the royal guards, people probably thought askin was the least likely to take down ichigo because he comes off as kind of wimpy and not powerful
While this is a shocking moment in Bleach, it does remind us of some things. Strong and Weak are not so clear in determining winners and fighting types/styles can matter more. Special abilities can add twisting elements that Reiatsu levels can't overcome (unless you're Aizen against Soifon). Main Characters are still subject to the rules of worldbuilding and if we lost Yamamoto, Unohana, and others, maybe we can lose others now too. It reminds Ichigo that he still has to be cautious. And lastly, I think it sets the stage for Yhwach's defeat. Someone viewed as "weaker" finds a way to overcome the power levels and beat someone stronger. Azkin is the hero of his own story and pulled an Ichigo... on Ichigo. It remains shocking because of our attachment to Ichigo, but it still works well as a scene. Reminds us of fundamental Bleach worldbuilding.
IDK if it's fundamental. The whole "meta power" stuff basically started with the quincies. Szayel gave us a bit of it with his "crush your organs" power as well as Soi Fon, but still not at the level of the quincies Up until the invasion almost all the fights were sword based with spiritual pressure and sword skills being the keys to victory. It's only here at the end where everyone needs 5 minutes to explain their power and many of them have instant win conditions or just straight up negation to whatever they happen to dislike. The series's combat changes at the end for sure due to the nature of the quincies powers. Even a few of the soul reaper's bankai's are like that, Shunsui being a pretty obvious example. His bankai is "I tell a story and you die". That's a pretty big departure from say Byakuya or Gin, or basically any captain for the first 3/4 of the series. I mean think how stupid and weak most bankai's are in comparison. Ikkaku for example, is it even really a bankai in comparison?
Askin is a powerhouse. Took down Ichigo and then put two of the strongest and resourceful ex Shinigami near death, one apparently with scars and sight damage. His genuine curiosity at wanting to see the world Yhwach brings about adds to it.
@DrunkenSoulReaper Yup. The fact that he put them all to shame in battle is meaningful given the power and skills he was facing. With Kisuke it's near impossible given he has contingencies for contingencies for his deep plans.
He also incapacitated my boy Grimmjow too 😭 I had heard Kubo wanted Nel to fight him as well but couldn’t because everything was being rushed. That means Askin would’ve fought, Grimmjow, Ichigo, Nel, Yourichi and her brother, and Kisuke. Askin was an absolute BEAST
I do like that this kept Ichigo grounded. The Bleach formula is easy to sum up with "Troubling opposing force > new power up > period of badass > power crept into the mud by the next opposing force". By having Ichigo not be invincible even with his new Shikai shows that both the Royal Guard villains aren't just ripe to be slapped away by one new power up, but also that even the more powerful character can get blindsided by mysterious abilities.
A thing I like about Bleach is that, despite the fact that Ichigo is of the strongest shinigamis ever, there are a lot of characters who would easily defeat him because of their broken abilities. For example, Ichigo would probably lose if he fought against Zommari or Szayel Aporro. Ichigo is very good against opponents with straightfoward powers, but there are plenty of antagonist with powerful abilities that are only defeated because they were matched against the one guy who could counter them.
@@doginababyseat5127 Like with Ikkaku vs. Poww in the Karakura Invasion arc? Or Soi Fon vs. Barragan? I'd personally rate those as the top 2 worst Soul Reaper matchups in the series. Ikkaku's Bankai (which would've at least given him a chance) was broken when it crashed with Edrad, all the way back when Grimmjow brought five Arrancars to attack Karakura. So when it came time for him to defend one of the pillars swapping the real Karakura Town with a replica, he was ill equipped to do so, and predictably got squashed. There was exactly 0 chance for Ikkaku to win that one. As for Soi Fon, her Shikai requires her to fight Barragan up close. The problem? Barragan is completely surrounded by an aura that ages anything and anyone who gets close to him, dramatically reducing the speed and strength of their movements. This power is magnified tenfold after Barragan goes into his Resurrección, to the point that anything his aura touches ages to the point of death. To translate, physical combat against a Barragan in Resurrección is completely impossible -- which is the WORST news for Soi Fon. Even ranged projectile attacks like her Bankai proved ineffective without help, since Barragan could just age her Bankai to detonate prematurely and thus avoid a direct hit.
@@cameraredeye3115 I wouldn’t go so far as to say Poww was a bad match up for Ikkaku. I’m not even entirely sure the concept of bankai being permanently weakened if damage was even a thing back then. If it was, Renji wouldn’t even have a bankai to spam after Byakua basically shattered his into pieces when they fought in SS arc. The issue with the Ikkaku vs Poww fight was that Ikkaku refused to use his banaki at all because he doesn’t want the rest of the Gotei knowing he has one. Similar to Yumichika refusing to use his true shikai until charlotte blocked everyone’s sight into their battle. He held himself back and got beaten because of it. The broken bankai thing just feels like a retcon so Kubo can give Ichigo and Renji new bankai. As for Soi Fon vs Barragan, you are right. All her skills, all her zanpaktou abilities, and even kido were completely useless. And he could survive with half his head and body blown to dust. It was a terrible match up that did her no favors and it sucks how so many people hold that fight against her. Only Hachi and his space manipulation kido could beat Barragan. Then he puts her against an armored robot that can’t be pierced by her shikai, is naturally tough enough to tank her Shunko punches, and is able to survive with half its head and chest blown open. It’s the same dang fight against the same kind of opponent. Even the fact that they get killed by other people is the same.
@@doginababyseat5127 I would definitely consider Ikkaku vs. Poww a bad matchup for the former. Keep in mind that Ikkaku's Bankai broke when it crashed with an Edrad in Resurrección. Poww is much bigger AND stronger than Edrad, so even if Ikkaku swallowed his pride and used his Bankai, I highly doubt it would matter in the end. At best, Poww would be forced into his Resurrección after tanking said Bankai. Keep in mind that it took Cpt. Komamura going Bankai to put the dude down, and Poww was just a Fracción. Dude was a lot stronger than most people tend to think.
@ I still don’t see it. I mentioned that I believed the broken bankai thing was a Retcon and didn’t come into play until TYBW. So I don’t count that. Then there is the fact that both Poww and Ikkaku are just brawlers. I don’t believe Komamura even needed his bankai to beat him, but it was an opportunity for Kubo to draw two giants fighting even if it was one sided and short. Sajin’s shikai would have been enough but probably wouldn’t have been as memorable. Poww doesn’t have any special abilities that take anything away from Ikkaku or counters him in any way. Poww was just physically stronger is all. I consider a bad match up being a fight where an opponent has an ability or skill that counters or takes away their opponent’s skill/powers. Byakuya vs Zommari for example was a bad match up for Zommari. He has the ability to control whatever he lays his eyes on and his resurrection gives him 100 eyes to control 100 things. He fights Byakuya whose shikai is a swarm of thousands of tiny blades he can control and his bankai gives him even more blades. It completely makes Zommari power useless eliminating his main weapon and leaving him a sitting duck. That’s what I mean by bad match up. Ikkaku and Poww was just two brawlers going at it with no hax and Ikkaku embarrassingly lost because he stupidly holds himself back.
Ichigo suffers from a indirect Wolverine/Worf effect, and being a relatively blunt tool. Kubo beat him down to establish Askin as a real danger (Worf effect). But since he had Orihime he could instantly recover from it, so no real harm done (Wolverine Effect). It isn't even that Ichigo is weak - it is that Askin has a tricky power that brute force cannot defeat. And Ichigo pretty much brute force. The height of his strategy was "destroy the Halo first to stop Reishi enslavement". His strategy starts and stops at "what do I cut first?" Ichigo knows he is not smart. He outright _said_ he isn't in the Fullbring Arc. "If Ukitake wanted to fool me, he could have made a lie I never would have seen through."
Ichigo gets beaten up by a giant talking plushie Pig. Bleach fans: ZzZZZZZZzzzZZZ Ichigo gets poisoned by an elite Quincy royal guard member enhanced by a literal demi-god. Bleach fans: THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!
@shiroufan5401 Idk cause other than Askin. How would he be able to beat Lille? He has no counter to the X-Axis and literally, the only thing that beat Lille was himself. How would he beat Pernida? Ichigo is a mostly close range in your face fighter and getting close like with Kenpachi did would be a bad move, plus sure he could destroy pernida over and over, but again he can't stop the evolution powers of the Compulsory and in a way similar to Lillie the only thing that beat him was kinda himself
@ Pernida would definitely get beaten if Ichigo just stayed at a distance I don’t think Pernida is regenerating from a bankai getsuga. And for Lillie I think that comes down to whether or not Ichigo could speed blitz him before he transforms since he would eventually lose if Lillie did transform cause of the intangibility.
@shiroufan5401 Pernida's who thing is is ability to constantly regenerate and evolve. Unless it's 100% reduced to atoms on the on the first strike, which I dont think is happening he's gonna regen from it
@@shiroufan5401 Ironically, Ichigo might be one of the only characters in Bleach who CAN beat Gerard. He's a Soul King Candidate. One powerful slash and that cross is probably history.
Tbf Ichigo basically loses to 90% of the stronger opponents that his peers have managed to squeak out victories from. The reason is.. He just doesn't have much hax aside from being the protagonist (which is powerful to be sure) and therefore can't deal with many of the stronger enemies hax and abilities. Which is why it makes perfect sense to me that Ichigo ran into a bad matchup here against Askin and got poisoned.
I think Kubo had Askin beat Ichigo to show that Askin deserved to be promoted to the Schutzstaffel, and that he’s not like the other sternritter who were left down below.
I loved this moment for the exact reason Tommo pointed out. When it was revealed all those years ago in the manga, I freaked out because it felt like Kubo was showcasing raw strength won't always win the day. And Askin versus, well, every opponent he defeats showcases that. I just wish it had been explored more. A simple conversation between two characters could have explained it.
i'm hoping that for the broken bankai scene in the anime that it shows ichigo releasing his bankai, fighting yhwach and ultimately defeating him. then it cuts to back to yhwach's face growing that malevolent grin, it didn't happen, he was looking the future with the almighty, and now he has changed it so ichigo's bankai is broken. thus we get to see the bankai used and it remains canon that it gets broken without being used
That episode should end with Ichigos bankai broken and the scene should play out just like in the manga. It is a perfect cliffhanger and shock effect for the consumer. But the following episode could just start with the vision of the almighty. I wouldn't like it though as we get the chance to see the bankai in the final battle too. That battle needs so much redoing/fledging out and it's more fitting to show the bankai in real action instead of some kind of flashback which is inconsequental
And people called Kisuke weak because he wasn't the one who killed Askin, even though he did most of the fighting. If anything, Ichigo's defeat shows how incredible Kisuke is for fighting that well against the guy who off screened the main character.
Yeah Kisuke is definitely not weak. Bro is a special war potential for a reason. Aizen even admits that Kisuke could have killed him with that wrist technique if he hadn’t fused with the Hokyoku
Kisuke is only weak in terms of physical strength, and relatively. Compared to Kenpachi, he’s like 2 x weaker. His major strength is his resourcefulness. I’d say he’s at least stronger than Kurotsuchi, though, lol.
Ehh Kisuke isn't weak at all but he definitely doesn't come close to Askin, the fact that Askin fought so many powerful people prior and soundly defeated them before a healthy Kisuke even shows up is supposed yo make you realize even the most recent member of the Elite Guards are just on another level.
Not to mention, Kisuke was fighting within the heavily poisoned gift bereich while his poison was stronger under vollstandig. Kisuke's an absolute tank, make no mistake
Askin was never one of my favorite Quincies, but he’s definitely an interesting character, as well as way more dangerous than his outward personality would suggest.
The most depressing part of this scene is the fact Ichigo is unable to protect Orihime and Chad from Askin, that would of really affected him based on his character and goals
Askin is just HIM. Period. Only soldier in Yhwachs army to be promoted from ordinary Sternritter to Schutzstaffel. Yhwach must've seen the potential and the fights he'll have with the Almighty
Bro... for some reason I didn't get why people was feeling Askin when I read the manga. I was trippin'. Everytime he's on my screen in the anime I'm thinking "wait... is he the GOAT?"
@@MindoftheNorthStar he's just another lazy genius character which is a massively overplayed trope in anime. He doesn't even really fight in the traditional sense. The goat? really? because he can say, well now you're allergic to your own blood and are going to die because I said so? Oh sorry, now it's the air, you can't breathe. Oops, your own sweat is now like acid. It's ridiculous.
@@paulcox2447his style of a villain isn't overly used, in fact in most anime its not fully written as it should be. That's why the logic behind those other characters get classified as a cliche trope. Where here, Askin is literally only doing this because he is curious how things will turn out.
Almighty has nothing to do as Yhwach did not use it before the fight against Ichibei. And also not reasonable that he saw whatever over a thousand years ago before it was sealed with Pernida at this moment as he was not prepared that it got sealed(he cannot see the futures of parts of the soulking) so he could not change the future for all those years to this outcome. Also the reason why he ended up to lose against Gotei13 at that time
Ichigo took his fair share of losses throughout the series but his loss to Askin really does stand out because it was both off-screened and that Ichigo never really got his win back like he did against other characters he lost against.
This really is one of those styles makes fights scenarios. Like if Ichigo didn't run into captain and vice captain who all relied on speed, strength and swordplay he would've died a long time ago. Imagine him trying to beat tousen's bankai.. he's dead.. quickly.. but him vs kamamura would be easy. Any tricky type was dealt with by someone else. Number 8 espada, miyuri, tsukishina, perneda
Kubo hyping the villain by beating the Protagonist similar to how Byakuya, Gin, Zaraki, Aizen, Grimmjow and Ulquiorra in previous season effortlessly beat our hero and Askin did the same thing
Lmao i didnt think of it like that but yeah seriously. If I saw that the guy we were all PRAYING would stop the world ending monster was just out cold on the floor at some random dude's feet i'd be hyperventilating, crying my eyes out. Yoruichi took it really well lol
The fact that Ichigo got a major power boost shortly before this and then we see him get presumably trounced by Askin offscreen is really funny to me. Almost as funny as the possibility that Chad got beat by the statues guarding the Wahrwelt.
Yall easily overlooked what reishi poisoning is. It affects ppl like Aizen and Ichigo on a higher scale than others due to the amount of spiritual pressure they possess. It has nothing to do with downplaying his recent power boost. Wahrwelt allows this ability to scale higher than when he used the death dealing on Oh Etsu prior.
Ichigo’s power boost is so funny in that we hardly get to see it. He either loses or gets distracted and leaves the few fights he gets all the way up until the final confrontation where the infamous bankai break happens. I definitely remember people feeling like he wasn’t even feeling like the MC at this point back in the day.
We know those trained in the Royal Palace were exposed to and even ingested a different, more dense type of reishi during their training and Askin asking about this before defeating Ichigo seems pretty clear cut
Truth. Though Soul Society arc Ichigo did barefist 3 vice captains at once in the blink of an eye, so my boy Kira may not be much of a problem regardless.
@@alexmartin3143 OP is not wrong, though. Ichigo clashing swords with Izuru plays directly into the latter's hands. After about 5 love taps from Wabisuke, Ichigo's sword becomes too heavy to wield even in Bankai, and he either has to drop his sword and run, or admit defeat.
i think askin beating ichigo is actually rather likely. as askin said, he doesn't fight, he kills. ichigo is a person that fights to understand another person. ichigo would 100% holdback until it was too late against askin.
Askin just built different. Literally. That's why he the GOAT! Literally my favorite character, not loyal, just curious. Was rooting for him everytime. It showcases how Askin isn't some idiot, but is smart enough to plan and strategise. Took 2 Special Warr threats by himself too.
I love how faithful the scene in the anime is to the manga. You know the animators are true Bleach fans who realize the importance of iconic scenes such as this one 😄
The reason why so many people fell victim to Askin is because they underestimated him. Blindly charging at him making matters only easier for the death dealer. Making even a Jojo reference out of it. For me the friends flashback left a lot to be desired. Which is why Askin maybe our link to some refined Quincy lore. He knew about the specialty of Pernida, Gerard and Irazu Sando. Also just hooked up with Yhwach because of curiosity.
I can’t remember if it really does happen every time, but off the top of my head, i love that Ichigo is always still gripping his sword when we see him lying on the ground (in this case even while unconscious).
I also honestly think the anime is making him look worse. They've only given him more battles to lose. Then reminding us about his special training and growth with squad 0 in front of askin only to still turn him into a rug just further hammers home how useless ichigo and is development was in this arc
What are you talking about? He has some of the best character development in this arc, including his own integral character arc, wrapping up with finding out everything about his mom and finally accepting all of himself to honor her. If he was just allowed to capitalize on that, the whole arc would only be 5 chapters long, lol.
@nooc-riggen-udnid-koops i'm not talking about his emotional development. I'm talking about his physical development, his strength. It was all for naught. He accomplishes nothing with his new found powers
@@curtisdunn1854 Thing is, Ichigo's opponents were Uryu, Askin, and Yhwach. Any one of them is a bad matchup for Ichigo, each for his own reasons. Uryu is Ichigo's friend, and as such, Ichigo won't fight him seriously unless say, he attacks Orihime for whatever reason. Askin just needs to survive 1 attack from Ichigo to gain complete immunity to the latter's powers (which isn't hard for him to do, since it doesn't need to be a Getsuga). At that point, Ichigo is immediately and forever at Askin's mercy. And considering how big of a troll Askin is, Ichigo will always fall for it. As for Yhwach -- this literally needs no explanation. No Soul Reaper can possibly be a good match for him now that The Almighty has been reawakened. Ichigo, needless to say, is no exception.
@cameraredeye3115 none of the context changes anything. I already understand why he loses each time. I just don't care. I care about results and ichigo even after all this incredible hype and build still cannot accomplish a goddamn thing. We literally watched him hold the weight of the worlds and overcome reio's reiatsu and they still cannot make this guy do anything cool after it. It blows my mind. The anime hypes him up more than the manga ever did yet at the same time gives him more L's. It's baffling His performance in this arc is embarrassing
Well……Ichigo was ASKIN For it. Jokes aside, at least the Anime hinted that all he had to do was “Adjust the Flavor” of the poison after Ichigo’s Soul Kings training and….. PRESTO, Carpet Ichigo!!!! Can’t wait for Cour 4 where Urahara asks Askin “Why do you support Ywach’s Plan?” And Askin replies “Well….just because….it’s interesting, aren’t you curious?” (ABSOLUTELY SAVAGE!!!)
The fact that ichigo never really goes for one shot kills it's very in character for him to have lost to askin, as that's often the only way to deal with him given his immunity no matter how strong the opponent may be
Bleach is all about matchups and with Ichigo having such a limited movepool and straightforward fighting style I was NOT surprised he got murked by Askin. You HAVE to one shot Askin from the jump otherwise you are in trouble.
Ichigo may be extremely strong but one thing you can’t call him is a smart fighter, he is a Melee fighter with only one ranged attack and he has absolutely no counter to Askin (I don’t know how to spell his name) bleach is very much a case of rock paper scissors with a few nuclear bombs floating around the setting, Askin’s powers are less straightforward they count on your opponent not knowing how to they have already been hit by it and not knowing how to counter it. I think that the only real counters to askin are soul reapers like Yamamoto after activating his Banki as no hit can then touch him, Byakuya as he can do massive damage at range and use his powers to block any fluid sent towards him with a cyclonic barrier basically you can’t be a straight up melee fighter you need to be careful in battle to avoid puddles of poison and to spot there there in the first place or be completely untouchable like Yamamoto.
@@KurosakiKazui-z2u Behold the charm of Askin Nakk Le Vaar. He likely got Ichigo to think he wasn't serious as a Schutzstaffel member, and predictably got Ichigo to use an attack that didn't take him out immediately -- thus giving Askin complete immunity to Ichigo's powers. It was GG the moment that happened.
Tommo, it’s crazy how your love for Askin blinds you to the fact that this is a terrible scene for Ichigo. To then call this a great scene is insane work from you. Mans been on a generational losing streak and you’re calling this “one of the greatest scenes because it’s experimental?” This is crazy man.
To be fair, everyone except Kisuke lost to Askin. Including the two dudes in Squad Zero who faced him prior to Askin getting the Aushwalen boost. Askin is just HIM.
@ There’s no doubt this scene elevates Askin. The problem there is when you’re saying “Askin is Him” over your own protagonist. It was the end of the series (At the time), Ichigo has gone through all his physical and emotional training just to lose to one of Yhwach’s guards? You’d never find Aizen in a position like that where he’s just taking L’s, and this is an Ichigo that’s supposed to have surpassed that level.
@@timiwithane Aizen did end up taking a bit of an L against NaNaNa (despite the latter being a nobody), though it only knocked him out for 5 minutes. Askin may not be able to take out Aizen completely with his Deathdealing, but he CAN slow the dude down by giving him reishi poisoning -- just like he did with Ichigo. Unless Aizen is somehow freed from the chair, he can't do anything about it.
He has the heart of the soul king dude.... Of course he is broken, trying to destroy his heart is probably like trying to destroy the hogyoku or cutting the soul king in half its almost impossible. Even yhwach couldn't Cut the soul king in half he needed ichigo to do it. Destroying the hogyoku is almost impossible cause even the final getsuga tensho couldn't do it in 1 hit, it only made aizen regrace in power...... Maybe with multiple mugetsu it could eventually destroy the hogyoku but we don't know for sure And gerald heart and cross was never destroyed in the manga and kenpachi never tried to slash Gerald cross either buuuuuuut maybe the anime Will change that, we will see. But interestingly enough the ability of kenpachi zaraki's zanpacto is to cut everything Kenny desires (even intangible things) which makes the potential of his powers even more terrifying..... Basically kenpachi holds the power to destroy everything I listed with enough practice and training of courses
Wonder Why Askin isn’t as strong… - Left Hand of God - God’s first Apostle - Heart of God - Then you have A Joestar Drug Runner. Askin is a Mere Quincy Among Gods, of course he’s the weakest of the Schstaffel (but definitely one of the smartest compared to them all.)
It's important to remember that one of Ichigo's most defining characteristics is that he is always reluctant to actually kill his foe, and therefore he always holds back when he is fighting. If Azken started the fight without holding back at all, it would be easy to understand how ichigo could be taken out so easily. This loss might explain why he stops holding back after this and actually starts displaying his real power.
I could get behind the absurd idea of Askins power boiling down to him just being really good at upholstery/sewing, especially since hes more or less a normal dude outside of the Deathdealing. Snaps his fingers, turns Ichigo into a finely hewn rug. He could put Senjumaru to shame
His ability to poison reishi would more overwhelm both Ichigo and Aizen since they have so much. Thats why Askin beat Ichigo with little effort. Nanana was able to restrain Aizen, Askin would definitely be able to do the same to Aizen as he did Ichigo.
I love that askin beat Ichigo it was perfect to me I like seeing the villains getting some wins. I also think this scene gets a lot less hate than it did back then I even saw reactors clapping. Also I like that someone may not be stronger than you to beat you in bleach you can be perfect countered or just outsmarted
@@jacobwilson6847he's chill he knows he can obliterate most of the verse, if he aimed to kill he would've obliterated the Bambis (or at least the electric one) with his Getsuga jujisho.
@@nooc-riggen-udnid-koops I had help against Yhwach, he didn't solo anyone. Every single 1v1 he loses even when he is pressing them. Quilge beat down Orihime, Chad, AND Urahara AND Jailed him with Ranso Tengai. Yhwach beat him down, Ichigo couldn't stop him from leaving, AND Hashwaltch broke his bankai. He takes on the fodder Bambi's without taking out any of them, Ichigo didn't get the better of Base Uyru, Goes up to the royal realm, just to get a short scuffle with Yhwach again just to fail to save the Soul King. Get's turned into a rug when Askin No diffs him. Only to get hammered and wrecked by Yhwach AGAIN while Orihime is helping him and getting his bankai broken AGAIN. Just to need Aizen and Plot arrow from Uryu to take away ALL of Yhwachs powers so Ichigo could kill him. Was NOT a good look.
I can understand why fans were frustrated with that scene but askin has his own share of bullshit hax powers ( one of them being to turn somebody's own blood into poison) and you cant just recklessly charge him like ichigo and grimjow did .
people are looking too much into this "ichigo defeat" lol. it was purely for plot. same like how "ichigo lost to uryu" by standing there and letting him get a free shot. There are so many instances where it was obviously for plot. If it was a real fight, ichigo obviously would just bankai and literally brute force his way through whatever askin can do. Ichigo literally has the highest raw stats in the series
The fact that you use "plot" as a reason is so stupid, Ichigo didn't even know about Askin powers and he got down easily, and in a real fight how do you know if Ichigo would use Bankai right away? he didn't even do that against Yhwach what he would do against someone like Askin? Against Uryu he didn't want to hurt him so he let himself get hit, you clearly don't understand when something happens because of "plot"..
Askin said in the anime that Ichigo was resisting his initial Reishi poisoning and he had to adjust it accordingly to take him down, where with characters like Chad Orihime and Grimmjow he just instantly poisoned them, so it's obvious Askin can increase the dosage of his poisons if his opponent is resistant
i feel that bleach should have more moments similar to this one, where is not all about power levels but also about good and bad match ups and how they go around beating an enemy that has a power suit it to beat them
It was always odd that Ichigo was granted this long and dramatic power up only to not have a clean win in a fight for the rest of the arc until the absolute final battle
Me to my wife when watching the episode for the first time: “Are you ready to see Ichigo look flat as a character pancake??” The animators really fixed that scene tho
It's just a bad match up. Askin is constantly underestimated. Ichigo uses his soul powers very directly. It's just an "ichigo's reishi" blast. ichigo also tends to go all out right away, so Askin is able to adapt extremely quickly, like he did with Yourichi's blast.
The scene in the anime makes more sense, we hear askin say that Ichigo was initially immune to reishi poisoning due to the training he got and that he would need to change the "flavor". So what he did was take advantage of the high density reishi in the air, being in the royal palace, which the quincy have control of and have a home field advantage. Ichigo is suffering from being poisoned by all the reishi in the air itself by being in that gift bad.
This is likely what happened off-screen between Ichigo and Askin: Askin pretends to be helpless and runs away from Ichigo. The MC predictably gives chase and is trolled into attacking Askin, who almost dies from the attack (let's assume it's a Getsuga). But as Ichigo tries to finish him off, Askin takes almost no damage from what would otherwise be a lethal attack. Dumbfounded, Ichigo tries the same attack again, only for Askin to eat it with exactly zero damage this time. At this point, Ichigo is both frustrated and confused. Askin merely explains that he has now completely adapted to Ichigo's reiatsu and is no longer vulnerable. Meanwhile, Ichigo gets sick. Unable to figure out the root cause for the sickness (spoiler alert: it was Askin lowering Ichigo's lethal dose regarding his own reiatsu), Ichigo succumbs to Askin's power, falling in defeat.
Bleach power system/scaling is so inconsistent.. ichigo trained at the royal palace, walked irazusando, gained new powers & enlightenment, got his true zanpakuto, and yet he's getting no diffed by askin... I thought greater power/reaitsu >>> physical attacks & hax if the gap in power is too big which is should be between ichigo and askin, ichigo is even a soul king candidate even transcended beyond shinigami & hollows by got no diffed by askin??
The whole "greater power>>>>hax" thing probably only applies to shinigami Aizen even specified that it was a battle "between soul reapers" during that Soi Fon moment that everyone brings up now and again If that were the case for every race then Kenpachi would've just no-diffed base Pernida and Ichigo would've no-diffed Askin......but they didn't.
@@tensā_zangetsu_01 If an enemy took away your ability to breathe, it wouldn't matter how powerful you were. You still need air to live. Haxes work under the same principle. Askin poisoned Ichigo's reishi. So no matter how strong Ichigo was, this hax was still able to drop him.
At this point I feel like a broken record, but the anime definitely improved this scene. Giving us more chances to see what Ichigo can do beforehand made his off-screen defeat easier to swallow.
There's nothing controversy about this, Ichigo was chasing someone he didn't know the powers, he was confident, thinking he could beat anyone and Kubo subtly showed that it's not that easy.
Askin is supposed to fight Kisuke. Kisuke is a character we’ve only seen in action against Aizen and if Askin is just a grunt unable to press Ichigo in anyway whatsoever then who cares about him fighting Kisuke, any fighting they do will be Kisuke playing with his food. Showing Askin beating Ichigo who isn’t matched for him and probably went in thinking that would be easy enough hypes Askin, hypes Urahara, and teaches Ichigo that even though you’ve got this new power don’t let it get to your head, the fights are still hard. I won’t say it humbles him, but I say it throttles his thoughts on his new power. Look at Ichigo bs Aizen, when he got a huge power up he does tend to take his fights way more casually. He does this every time he gets stronger the next fight after a power up is always him not taking the fight seriously
I’m ok with this in the anime, even if I’d prefer it to be a little more dignified or elaborated on. In the manga though… yeah no. The fact that Ichigo had done nothing besides one Getsuga Jujisho against opponents clearly leagues below him, and wouldn’t do anything until the literal final fight just made this feel like insult to injury
Askin putting Ichigo in such a situation didn’t throw me over, but him doing it to CHAD?… He must’ve went easy on him, or else it would’ve been a Fatal Mistake.
I hope askin somehow comes back in the hell arc he may not have been purified by a zanpakuto but since hes a man among gods perhaps his sins are grave enough to warrant punishment
I actually love this scene, some characters are just a bad match for each other no matter how strong they might be and that's the best part of the power system in Bleach, fights really aren't straight forward

What did you think of Askin's off-screen defeat of Ichigo? Did you like it, or did it hurt Ichigo's character so late into the story? Was it even necessary at all? Let me know your thoughts below - thanks everyone!
@@MrTommo2304 I didn't find anything wrong with it. It just shows that hax can sometimes circumvent characters abilities. Wanna real hot take? Guenael Lee could take out most of the Bleach universe and nobody would even"remember"how it happened. 😏
I liked it because it reinforced that Askin was worthy of being one of the strongest Quincies. This made his later battle actually have some weight.
Kubo, when he creates a new favorite character:
"Im gonna have this person disrespect Ichigo so fucking hard...."
Kubo has such a talent with making characters that I instantly love. Askin is easily in my top 5 if not top 3 favorite characters.
Glory to me, the 69th like
Kubo when he creates another Scientist guy.
Kubo copy and pastes Aizens design, “now this guy can take on Ichigo”
Tbf any character looks less intimating in Bleach is utter weakest so like how kubo deceived readers into thinking askin 1 and done it character and that whole point 😅
Not only Kubo off screened the main character, but also turning him into a rug. Ichigo was lucky that Askin was not standing on top of him wiping his legs
That be cold. Instead he made a jojo reference
Poor Ichigo, he was sliced through by a thousand petals, punched a hole through his chest like me, and now he is turned into a rug by Askin.
Same way Kenpachi was immediately taken out by Pernida. With the Royal Guard, Kubo was trying to establish that bad match-ups exist.
I always took the scene of Ichigo's loss to Askin to mean that no matter how powerful a character is, hax has a way of circumventing that character’s power and there are such things as bad match ups.
Thank you, like kenpachi vs pernida
@chitikas5363 Exactly.
@@jakublizon6375 I don't think Ichigo goes all out right away haha. He's not as bad as Goku, but yeah, he's no Android 17.
To me, this was the equivalent of Kenpachi getting beaten by Pernida.
Yeah thats an excellent exemple , not only zaraki didn't take pernida seriously but also kenpachi still hadn't fully recovered from his injuries from his previous battle with grimmy and the other sternritters which bearly survived thanks to ichigo intervention
And as if it wasn't enough, he also didn't bother to remove his eyepatch lol, only used 1 hand to slash pernida and didn't even activate his shikai😂😂😂😂😂All of the factors needed for pernida to have a chance of beating kenpachi were assembled in 1 single instant which created this highly highly unlikely outcome of pernida wining and mayuri saving Kenny lol.
In normal circumstances razaki 1 shots pernida just like oetsu.
Thats 1 of the thing about bleach that I learned to appreciate with time, because 10 years ago I was pissed when I saw ichigo get off screened by askin and Kenny losing to freaking pernida.
Oetsu also underestimated askin and lost he needed tenjiro to save his life with new blood after that
Zaraki could go bankai and still get bodied by Pernida. Wouldn’t have made a difference.
If we had to do a list of the luckiest characters in bleach pernida would be very high on the list
Forget about the Kenny shikai, all he needs to 1 shot pernida is 2 hands and removing his eyepatch to 1 shot pernida.
@@haku1384thinking that is a FATAL MISTAKE!
Szayel gave us a bit of it with his "crush your organs" power as well as Soi Fon, but still not at the level of the quincies
Up until the invasion almost all the fights were sword based with spiritual pressure and sword skills being the keys to victory.
Also beat oetsu and tanjiro in 1v1
I hate it when he consistently puts certain characters in match ups because it gets boring and predictable.
His strategy starts and stops at "what do I cut first?"
Ichigo knows he is not smart. He outright _said_ he isn't in the Fullbring Arc. "If Ukitake wanted to fool me, he could have made a lie I never would have seen through."
Ichigo gets beaten up by a giant talking plushie Pig.
Bleach fans: ZzZZZZZZzzzZZZ
Ichigo gets poisoned by an elite Quincy royal guard member enhanced by a literal demi-god.
Bleach fans: THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!
context matters, ichigo was literally powerless in that moment against riruka’s dolls 🤦♂️
Reeeeetard alert
@@maharat5731 he's also up against one of the most hax shrifts
I stand by the assertion that Ichigo would have a hard to impossible time actually defeating any of the Schutzstaffel in a straight head on fight
Other than Gerard I think if he already knows about their abilities he can beat them.
I mean he defeated Grimmjow, Youruichi, her brother, forced Kisuke into Bankai and still almost won. Ichigo was the icing on the on cake.
Honestly I feel like you’re overanalyzing it and Kubo just thought it would be a funny gag 😂
i'm hoping that for the broken bankai scene in the anime that it shows ichigo releasing his bankai, fighting yhwach and ultimately defeating him. then it cuts to back to yhwach's face growing that malevolent grin, it didn't happen, he was looking the future with the almighty, and now he has changed it so ichigo's bankai is broken. thus we get to see the bankai used and it remains canon that it gets broken without being used
My soul needs to see the bankai in action
Imagine beating down the stronger version of the guy who off screened the protagonist and people still think you're weak lol.
Askin was never one of my favorite Quincies, but he’s definitely an interesting character, as well as way more dangerous than his outward personality would suggest.
yeah it's the lazy genius trope. Shunsui has it as a soul reaper, Starrk had it as an espada and Askin is the quincies version.
@@paulcox2447who do you think fits that character for the fullbringers ?
Even Aizen didnt have this level of wipe out....my man Askin turned the MC into a rug.
The most depressing part of this scene is the fact Ichigo is unable to protect Orihime and Chad from Askin, that would of really affected him based on his character and goals
Yeah that's one of the reasons that Askin avoided Mayrui he knew it would have been a bad matchup lol😂
It was needed to establish how dangerous Askin is. It emphasizes why such a large effort is needed later to beat him.
So glad you made this video. I was recently looking for an informed discussion about Askin and Ichigo instead of random opinions.
Him and first Son
I'd start praying
I don't think it's so difficult to understand this outcome. Ichigo is powerful, but has no defense against hax. Hence, Askin turned him into a rug.
Askin often gets underestimated. Just look in the manga how many mad strong people it actually took to end it
The fact that Ichigo got a major power boost shortly before this and then we see him get presumably trounced by Askin offscreen is really funny to me. Almost as funny as the possibility that Chad got beat by the statues guarding the Wahrwelt.
Its even funnier with the anime cause at that point we know that shikai Ichigo was quite a bit stronger than Yhwach without using the allmighty.
Nah man, I can't see Chad losing.
I thought the anime pretty clearly implies that the way Askin defeats Ichigo is by adjusting the type of reishi used to poison him
We know those trained in the Royal Palace were exposed to and even ingested a different, more dense type of reishi during their training and Askin asking about this before defeating Ichigo seems pretty clear cut
Bro i want to make a ichigo rug so bad xD it's just be so funny
Kubo rubbing his hands together like a little goblin creature is such a hilarious mental image
That's how it works in the Bleach universe.
Direct Fighters lose against Hax,
Hax loses against Mayuri,
Mayuri loses against Direct Fighters.
OH MY GOD YOU'RE RIGHT
Izuru’s shikai would do the exact same thing to ichigo weighing him down like a rug if they fought.
Truth. Though Soul Society arc Ichigo did barefist 3 vice captains at once in the blink of an eye, so my boy Kira may not be much of a problem regardless.
You Kira stans are loyal, i’ll give you that…
@@alexmartin3143 OP is not wrong, though.
Hearing you say he turned ichigo into a rug is hilarious, genuinely never heard that before. You don't even mean it as a insult 😂😂😂
Someone needs to start selling that "Ichigo Flat on His Face" rug!
Ichigo just spend this entire cour getting taking Ls left and right. Savior of Soul Society everybody. 😂
Ichigo KuRUGsaki
I think my biggest problem with this scene is that it comes out of nowhere and happens offscreen. It's a total.......rugpull. 🙃
I love how faithful the scene in the anime is to the manga. You know the animators are true Bleach fans who realize the importance of iconic scenes such as this one 😄
They would call me a rug muncher if I got to Ichigo in this state.
It's baffling
His performance in this arc is embarrassing
Well……Ichigo was ASKIN For it.
Jokes aside, at least the Anime hinted that all he had to do was “Adjust the Flavor” of the poison after Ichigo’s Soul Kings training and…..
PRESTO, Carpet Ichigo!!!!
Can’t wait for Cour 4 where Urahara asks Askin “Why do you support Ywach’s Plan?” And Askin replies “Well….just because….it’s interesting, aren’t you curious?”
(ABSOLUTELY SAVAGE!!!)
The fact that ichigo never really goes for one shot kills it's very in character for him to have lost to askin, as that's often the only way to deal with him given his immunity no matter how strong the opponent may be
The Quincies in general were more of a distraction to Ichigo. His main goal from the beginning of the war was always Yhwach
@Atticus-Catnipp he underestimated them and thats why he got turned into rug-kun. Rookie mistake. 😂
@@PutTheCookieDown to be fair Askin isn’t brute force like the others
Ichigo got off lucky.
@@skyrogue1977 It can go both ways lol
If ichigo just wnt for the kill with a powerful getsuga askin be dead especially when he didn't have his Volstandig activated
I feel like fans too often just forget the importance of Matchups in fights. Sometimes, it’s just a bad matchup.
i find Gerard feats more impressive, i dont think Askin could go with 50% of the characters at once like Gerard.
Yeah Gerard is more powerful. That mf is insane
Gerard is the 3rd or 4th strongest Quincy, after Yhwach, Haschwalth, and Uryū
He has the heart of the soul king dude.... Of course he is broken, trying to destroy his heart is probably like trying to destroy the hogyoku or cutting the soul king in half its almost impossible.
Even yhwach couldn't Cut the soul king in half he needed ichigo to do it.
Destroying the hogyoku is almost impossible cause even the final getsuga tensho couldn't do it in 1 hit, it only made aizen regrace in power...... Maybe with multiple mugetsu it could eventually destroy the hogyoku but we don't know for sure
And gerald heart and cross was never destroyed in the manga and kenpachi never tried to slash Gerald cross either buuuuuuut maybe the anime Will change that, we will see.
But interestingly enough the ability of kenpachi zaraki's zanpacto is to cut everything Kenny desires (even intangible things) which makes the potential of his powers even more terrifying..... Basically kenpachi holds the power to destroy everything I listed with enough practice and training of courses
Wonder Why Askin isn’t as strong…
- Left Hand of God
- God’s first Apostle
- Heart of God
- Then you have A Joestar Drug Runner.
Lets gooo. We love when u upload
Kubo was drunk when he drew this episode... the simple explanation
Ur just slow, Ichigo was chasing someone he didn't know the powers, Kubo made him lose because of that.
He really won no fights this arc and he’s top 3 in the verse
I don’t know how I feel about that tbh
@@jacobwilson6847he's chill he knows he can obliterate most of the verse, if he aimed to kill he would've obliterated the Bambis (or at least the electric one) with his Getsuga jujisho.
Yeah he did he beat Yhwach who's the strongest, solod some fodder quincies, and ultimately saved the day when all other hope was lost.
@ he won cause of plot and you know it
@@nooc-riggen-udnid-koops I had help against Yhwach, he didn't solo anyone.
Each time Mr. Tommo uploads the day just gets better!! Thank you for the great discussions!
I can understand why fans were frustrated with that scene but askin has his own share of bullshit hax powers ( one of them being to turn somebody's own blood into poison) and you cant just recklessly charge him like ichigo and grimjow did .
Ichigo is lucky he didn’t run into Lille lol. Ichigo crying: Why can’t I hit him?!
@@sakonan4883 Meanwhile Lille: *shoots Ichigo in the chest*
Kubo taking a dump on "but can he beat Goku" mentality
Rug-chan!
people are looking too much into this "ichigo defeat" lol. it was purely for plot. same like how "ichigo lost to uryu" by standing there and letting him get a free shot.
Wasnt it stated that if your riatsu is much higher in this case ichigo he shoukd have been able to overcome the poison?
True, this has got me scratching my head. Ichigo should’ve had a simple enough fight due to this 😂
@@PhongNguyen-iy6te Askin is poisoning the very reishi Ichigo's body produces. So for him to drop Ichigo isn't out of the realm impossibility.
Askin said in the anime that Ichigo was resisting his initial Reishi poisoning and he had to adjust it accordingly to take him down, where with characters like Chad Orihime and Grimmjow he just instantly poisoned them, so it's obvious Askin can increase the dosage of his poisons if his opponent is resistant
i feel that bleach should have more moments similar to this one, where is not all about power levels but also about good and bad match ups and how they go around beating an enemy that has a power suit it to beat them
I don't feel any kind of way about it because it's Askin. He's awesome
Imagine not only getting off screened but also getting turned into a rug💀
I need someone to make an Ichigo rug now, thing would sell like hot cakes!!!
Yeah Rugchigo was an instant classic
The way Ichigo was just lying there like a shit of paper will always disturb me
It’s funny cuz when I seen it in the anime I was looking like why tf ichigo look like a fucking placemat 😭😭
This is likely what happened off-screen between Ichigo and Askin:
Askin pretends to be helpless and runs away from Ichigo.
Ichigo lying down defeated by Askin is like me ngl
Bleach power system/scaling is so inconsistent.. ichigo trained at the royal palace, walked irazusando, gained new powers & enlightenment, got his true zanpakuto, and yet he's getting no diffed by askin... I thought greater power/reaitsu >>> physical attacks & hax if the gap in power is too big which is should be between ichigo and askin, ichigo is even a soul king candidate even transcended beyond shinigami & hollows by got no diffed by askin??
The whole "greater power>>>>hax" thing probably only applies to shinigami
Aizen even specified that it was a battle "between soul reapers" during that Soi Fon moment that everyone brings up now and again
If that were the case for every race then Kenpachi would've just no-diffed base Pernida and Ichigo would've no-diffed Askin......but they didn't.
@@nooc-riggen-udnid-koops Yeah Quincy don't really follow the Reiatsu Rule.
@@HOLDENPOPE idk if arrancar do either
I assumed it only specifically applied to shinigami
Askinn is so underrated, mad man is one of the strongest in the series
dont matter how strong ya are or how skilld- anyone can be poisoned.
Keep in mind that this Ichigo is someone who told one of his enemies (Candace) to move away from his own attack.
Askin is Hidan on steroids
Every time Askin is mentioned, all I hear is Ass Skin. And to whoever reads this, now you can't unhear it either 😂😂😂
I actually love this scene, some characters are just a bad match for each other no matter how strong they might be and that's the best part of the power system in Bleach, fights really aren't straight forward
Perhaps Ichigos lack of experience caught up to him in this one?
