      I think almost everyone except for English speakers would pronounce it more or less the same way. Same with the Greek gods and a lot of other things, too. English pronounciation is actually super unique and out of whack. Yet because it is the most global and popular language, it tries to dictate how things should be pronounced.

    I think IRyS has relatively good english when you consider she's lived a large part of her life in Japan and hasn't spoken much english during that time. @duongtran5094 Her original father was American stationed at the military base in Hawaii. Her mom was Japanese. They divorced and her mom went back to Japan and remarried. This is why when her father came onto the stream, he sounded Japanese. So while Irys is fluent in pronunciation, her vocabulary is lacking and had not seen use for 10+ years. It is also why she is so clueless to western culture, because she is essentially Japanese. This also explains why she is half nephilim, because she is a halfie of Japanese and American.

    To be fair correct pronunciation stems from which root language the specific word stems from. So obviously when reading the names of greek gods. You follow the greek ruleset.
    e.g. ch is pronounced with a k sound. because the original letter is the letter X. Which is pronounced as chi or ki (yes the kingdom hearts thing).
    However this is not actively taught in school. Its one of those you just have to know situations. So I can't blame Irys. I do however blame the fools who try to correct her and giving her the wrong pronunciation, because they're equally as ignorant but act like they know better.

    • @matchesburn
      @matchesburn 9 місяців тому +11

      ...I'm guessing not everyone picked up on his point. IRyS sounds like a native English speaker. Without knowing who she was if you played back her talking to someone they'd say, "Oh, that's an American-native speaking native English." (Or maybe a Canadian without the Canadian-isms) Because it just sounds so much on point. So hearing someone that speaks with no really discernible accent that also isn't that proficient of an English speaker as you'd be expecting is just odd because of how outside the norm it is. If you meet someone that speaks with a heavy accent and you find out that they don't normally speak the language, that makes perfect sense. If you meet someone that speaks like they're an America that has been speaking English their entire life outside of their certain pronunciation issues... it's rather surprising to find out that they don't speak English that much.

    Even as a native English speaker, I don't blame her for most of these. It's still funny tho~. It's nice to have someone bring these words to attention for others trying to learn English. English has crazy pronunciations for words like "colonel"

      @@LaudGuy_ There used to be 2 versions of the word. Colonel and coronel. The spelling for the first version became standard even though the pronunciation for the second version was more common. Same with Celtic and Keltic

    irys is doing her best and thats cute.
    also i think the majority of the words she got wrong were actually loan words to the english language.... which means english probably, technically pronounces them "wrong".
    its also interesting how at times she isnt even really wrong, but there is this minor detail that english nearly always stresses the first syllable of a word, which many other languages dont do.

    • @firstnamelastname8439

      Stress is a huge part of English that doesn't get nearly enough attention.

    • @lc9245
      @lc9245 10 місяців тому +2

      Isn’t it because in Japanese they were pronouncing Latin’s Piscēs? It’s not your fault, in English it’s the amalgamation of the original Greek Ἰχθύες (ikh thú es) and Latin Pisces. All of which just means fishes of course.
      Germany is more well known of course but some languages don’t use the exonym Germania passed down from Latin but Deutsch.

    • @Leonlion0305
      @Leonlion0305 10 місяців тому +2

      @@lc9245 Thanks. Yeah, it was because Japan sourced it differently (directly from Latin, instead of through English or Deutsch). From what I later found, it seems like Japan's Greek/Roman mythology related terms (including constellations and planets) are all closer to the Latin pronunciation.
      I didn't know better, now I do though! It's hard to know how to pronounce every word in English since they all depend on their roots.
