There is so much more when it comes to the relationship between femininity and the horror genre! And I really enjoyed talking about this one piece of it.

Really great review. Somewhat related - one of my favourite women's body horror/ motherhood horror stories is the Evil Dead Rise movie.

Thank you! I love the original Evil Dead films and the remake was pretty good. I haven't gotten around to watching Evil Dead Rise though. I'll have to give that a watch. Thank you for watching!💜

I enjoy your more in depth reviews! I just finished this one and you summed it up perfectly. I get what the author was trying to do, but I think the story could have done without some parts/characters and instead had more about the monster and the women. For a book that advertises itself as being about female rage and bodily autonomy, we sure spent a lot of the story with the men. A lot of it felt very surface level too, not quite fleshed out. The story had such a good concept and could have done so much more with it.

Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoy my videos. 😊
I agree that I understood what was trying to be done, but somewhere along the way the plot got lost in the forest of the multiple POVs and not being sure what message it wanted to send. I wanted there to be way more backstory on the lore and context for the ritual that the book just outright refused to give, which was so frustrating! Agree that it was a good concept that needed to be waaay more fleshed out.
      Thank you for watching! 💜

Seriously this would have gotten 1 star from me because it totally was terrible the way it went. Don't tell me it's one thing and then give me something else

That is totally fair and valid! I ultimately gave it a higher rating for a couple reasons. 1. the writing was actually good and I'm always willing to give praise for that. 2. The first 30 percent did follow what I was expecting from this story so I know it could've been done and well. It's why when the book seemingly took a turn I was baffled.
Sometimes I do feel like I am a bit lenient, but I would say that for me it would still fall between a 2 or 2.5.
      Thank you for watching! 💜
