As the owner of an LGS (and player), I'm often having to debunk the opinion that modern has to be expensive. I used your budget decks as inspiration to create similar decks to sell for $50 as a way for players to get into the format. I have to say, I really miss this channel a lot. I still watch matches I've seen multiple times. Your content is solid and really focuses on what magic should be about.
As a monoblack player, this is one of the most solid budget decks I've seen. It is good against most creature-based decks in modern and it is super cheap! Congrats for the video.
I ended up playing Mutilate over Languish because it gets better the more swamps you have in play and because this deck only runs swamps. If this was a 2 coloured deck I would have played Languish because it would be more consistent. Also you where correct Languish is $0.50, very budget.
Just started playing with this deck. It’s awesome! I’ve added 2 copies of torment of hail fire, which is a really effective finisher against decks like burn.
really solid magic content here, if you keep putting out solid content like this then I have no doubt in my mind you will end up becoming one of the top magic UA-camrs on the sight.keep up the good work!
Having a schedule is fine,I believe I speak for the majority of people that quality should always come before quantity and you are doing a great job of making quality decks.
Victim of the Night is typically going to be better in the mainboard than both Doomblade and Go for the Throat. Lashwrithe is all value in a swamp deck. A singke Bojuka Bog mainboard wouldn't be a bad idea.
This is actually my bad. I totally forgot that "Victim of the Night" existed until after I posted the video. It would be %100 worth running it over both Doom Blade and Go for the Throat. I tested with Lashwrithe a bit when I was building the deck but decided to run Desecration Demon over it. The 6/6 flying was generally better at getting in damage faster I found. That being said both are good options. Bojuka Bog would be a good idea as well. In retrospect I shoudl have mentioned it in the Upgrade section of the video. Thanks for the questions and feedback!
3 weeks NEW! And yes. When I was building this deck Hero's Downfall was just over $3. But since I released this video it's dropped in price. So Now it Is just bette. The only upside that Ruinous Path gives is a back up win con if needed.
YAH for #1435. I will call you Gary Fisher or henchman #21! Thanks for the support. I got a new video coming this Friday. Can you guess what it is. Heres a clue It's a Budget deck :)
0:34 done that before. Opponent was spitting out a few 1/1 creatures, he ran out of moves, defeated him through attrition, look at his hand. He was trying to make a 10/10 earlier in the game XD. Though only had one match like that happen.
I really have to say that I'm surprised you're at 12k subs, your videos look really professional, well made and thought through, you can also see a big improvement comparing this to your newer videos. I love your "Budget to Tier 1"-Series and I was wondering if you could do this for a Mono-Black deck, maybe Black Control, Black Devotion or 8Rack. I really feel like the options are there, maybe even starting out in Mono-Black Control and then building into 8Rack or so. Anyway, thank you so much for your videos, especially this one, as it was my first well constructed magic deck and I've been playing mono black ever since.
Hunt master is a small corner case, Werewolves are not played in modern and any zombie or vampire is most likely to be black. Grasp runs into problems against creatures with 5 toughness the classic 4/5 body. I'm only talking about doom blade vs victim of the night. Once you start adding other removal like dismember then it just depends on your meta
What about Ob Nixilis, Reignited instead of Liliana of the Veil as a budget alternative for a Planeswalker? Also, how about Read the Bones instead of cards like Sign in Blood or Underworld Connections for card advantage? I like the idea of being able to scry 2 before I draw 2. I know that Read the Bones cost 1 more then Sign in Blood and fights Night Hawk for the 3 slot but scry 2 is pretty powerful, imo.
for some upgrades, you can put victim of the nights as removal. it is perfect for most situations. then i believe 1 nyktos would not hurt (it is not the cheapest but it provides a lot of value)
Demigod of revenge is a good creature card or phrexian oblitorator both pretty solid body and abilities. Obviously the more price costing cost but they can end the game quickly if they stick. Also if you have lilly you can also discard demi and play a demi to get value because even countering the one your casting isn't going to stop the other one from coming back.
I have a mono black deck that uses the same meta, is demon vampire but is more aggro so it works like butter: x4 Blood Artist x4 Vampire Nighthawk x4 Master of the Feast x4 Desecration Demon x2 Archfiend of Depravity x4 Despise x4 Tragic Slip x4 Victim of Night x4 Go fo the Throat x3 Geth's Verdict x3 Sign in Blood 21x swamps sideboard x1 despise x3 Duress x1 Geth's Verdict x4 Dash Hopes x3 Raise Dead
Hi ! As an old player coming back, i'd love to play this deck ! Could you tell me what would be better to exchange with and how many of each would you play ? ; - Dark confidant - Phyrexian arena - Kalitas - Liliana Many thanks !
Do you plan on doing a updated version of the deck with cards like "Gifted Aetherborn"? Also; as a player who plays mono-black in modern and pauper, I would like to make a recommendation. I feel like "Ultimate Price" and "Victim of Night" would be a better choice over "Doom Blade" and "Go For The Throat"(and bring the overall price down): given the fact of how the field in modern is looking. "Underworld Connections" can be replaced by "Phyrexian Arena", its finally hit a low of like 2.50$. I really don't like "Lost Legacy", there plenty of picks out there but I don't like giving my opponent draw. "Ruinous Path" can be replaced with "Hero's Downfall", its down to a low of about 1.75$. Bojuka Bog would be a really good add in as a 1 of, maybe 2. Wasteland Strangler can be a amazing card for black, depending on how fine tuned your graveyard hate is. "Yahenni, Undying Partisan" makes for an amazing one of. Last but not least, I would say side boarding "Tribute to Hunger" over "Deathmark" would be better, with large single creature decks like "Death's Shadow" and "Through the Breach" making up a fair margin in the field. Past that, maybe a little more draw power but at this point, its people's preference.
At some point yes. Right now I'm still focusing on doing new decks. Thanks for all the suggestions they are all good. I think you are completely right about using "Ultimate Price" and "Victim of Night" over the current "Doom Blade" and "Go For The Throat". Here is an Updated list what do you think? tappedout.net/mtg-decks/budget-mono-black-control-budget-upgraded/
hey im terribly sorry for not getting back to you, to be honest, im little flattered how well you took such advice from my post, so it makes me feel bad for being so late. i like the changed but heres what i personally would do a run down on, and i will say this will be leaning much more on a midrange side of things 1 bojuka bog 1 nykthos, shrine to nyx(5$ish, if cut, just add swamp) 20 swamps 4 gery merchant of asp 4 vampire nighthawk 1 yahenni, undying partisan 4 victim of nights 4 ultimate price 2 phyrexian arena 1 underworld connections 1 ob nixilis reignited 4 duress 2 distress 1 sign in blood 2 geth's verdict 1 whip of erebos 1 gurmag angler 4 gatekeeper of malakir 2 glistening oil
PLEASE RETECH THIS DECK! I love it, and it has serve me well but it's not doing as well as it used to :// I would suggest Leyline of the void to shut down any graveyards. I'd put it in my sideboard and take out tormods. Also I'd like to see languish or mutilate added because it shuts down go wide strategies. Also could sudden spoiling work in this deck? Maybe even a grave Titan to finish off our opponent???
My best deck is a monoblack deck. But i lost a tournement cause My opponent were using cirkel of protection black and i cant find a way to get rekt of side enchanment cards. Help pls :(
my dear Giant Monster, do you mind putting a updated decklist for this deck ?? With like victims of the night and all the changes you think are better for it now ? I just bought the MTGO and I really want this to be my first deck, and I want to spend my tix wisely. If you could, I would really love it! thx
What about Hero's Downfall in the side board rather than Ruinous path? Instant speed and it does the same thing, still ike the deck though! Desecration demon is just fun to play with, might I suggest squelching leeches/nightmare? since we're running 21 swamps, they can get pretty big.
It was a 2 fold reason. The first being a budget thing, Hero's Downfall is $3 each where Ruinous Path is $1.50 each. The second was to give the deck a back up win condition, if you cast it for it's awaken cost. In a non-budget deck I would run Hero's Downfall because there are better backup win conditions.
yah it is quite close actually. That was not intentional but surprising how when brewing you can come to similar conclusion on cards. Also Bitterblossom would work well in this deck.
Modern has began to get more powerfull cards in the long run. Obviusly the amount of strategies is higher by simply having access to more cards, but as time goes by, the true fuel moving the engines its starting to condense in newer sets. In other words, if you can't get a straight upgrade from a legacy card, its quite possible to get a very close replacement.
So I would like to make this deck, but I would like to make a few upgrades but still try to keep it under $100, what additions are must haves and where to do you slot them in?
I like this deck, and I have all this cards! (I have also thoughtseize and surgical extraction) but I have just a question: why not phyrexian obliterator in the upgrades?
Just bought this deck and it is a very nice budget deck. For its price it preforms very good in casual play. I would make a few upgrades before i would take this to fnm but its very solid.
This deck is built to deal with the aggro based meta. Jund is on ok match up for this deck, you'll have to fight for the win but it is completely possible.
This deck has good match ups and bad. If you go against any creature based decks (Affinity, Humans, Elves, Zoo) then you will have a very good chance at winning. Combo decks on the other hand are much harder to win against.
One will work just fine. It is a legendary creature so I would not run more then 2. You could but Gurmag Angler and Kalitas are doing two different things. Angler is a late game drop when you've played a bunch of spells. Kalitis is a direct win condition like Desecration Demon. If you are looking to upgrade the deck more I would also recommend thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek. Theses replace Diress and a couple removal spells. Hope this helps
sry first time voting.... i want to see somthing with rally the anscestors......i may have spelled that wrong. but 2 decks 1 budget and 1 upgradable....thnx
lashwrite is a far superior finisher. Its a transferable body that keeps growing, and eventually can voltron the shit out of vampire nighthawk if you stack 2 or 3 of them. Besides, allow any 0/1 or bigger equiped creature (aka, not the germs) to survive the mutilate, cleasing the table but leaving a HUGE creature in play.
I would not run Fatal Push in this deck. If this deck had fetch lands I would say yes but %90 of the time you will only be able to target a CMC 2 or less creature.
Ya, that sounds good! The card kingdom youtube channel did a series called "modern gauntlet of greatness". You could do something similar with all your budget decks :)
When made the deck Hero's Downfall was $3 and Ruinous Path was $1.50. So it was for budget reasons. But, in the past 2 weeks Hero's Downfall has dropped to $1.50 as well. It's also a back up win con if needed.
How do you feel about playing pack rat in this deck? it's at around 1.50 so it's budget enough, also loved the deck, keep up the content. And for my vote I would like to see mono green stompy
A little more feedback is it would be nice if you showed off - (i.e. play tested)decks in actual modern leagues on mtgo to see just how good/competitive the deck is.
I found that Pack rat was a tad bit too slow for modern. I can make a deck that fixes this by doing a little bit of mana acceleration and Utilizing more rats to make Pack Rat bigger. You may see this deck someday on this channel because I like the idea. As for playing in Modern Leagues, I will be starting a series where we we take on of the past decks (Viewer choice) and play it in League. The series will also focus on the slow upgrade of some of these decks. Ex. having a $15-20 upgrade limit each time the deck is taken to league. This series will be on the opposite Fridays form my deck techs. Just need to finish getting my schedule in place before I launch this series.
Love the idea man, I can see how pack rat is a tad slow in this deck, and look forward to seeing it made into one in the future. Last thing, for your series I vote that dredge should be taken to a league
is there a lack of creatureless decks in modern? I haven't checked up on the meta in a bit but isn't the oversaturation of creature removal just make this deck fold to spell slinging? Sure you've got some discard but that's a rough first match, and overly reliant on sideboard tech. Don't get me wrong i love me some mono B and I like the deck tech, but the rare lantern control destroys it.
The meta is largely low to the ground aggro decks. Both combo style and even mid range. You are correct that decks like lantern control, ad nauseum and Tron are hard for this deck to beat, but keep in mind that this deck is a budget deck that's designed to be competitive against the %60-%70 of the meta. This deck would look a lot different if it was not budget. The best and most widely used hand disruption package consists of Thoughtseize, Inquisition of Kozilek and Liliana of the veil. All of which are WAY outside of this decks budget. Thanks for the questions.
I'm a little new to Magic, but wouldn't the deck be a little bit better if we put a Archfiend of Depravity in it? It will limit the creatures your opponent can have
Largley because the sideboard removal is case specific. Also there is just no good hand disruption that is budget. Unless you are willing to spend 2 mana? In a non budget version of this deck you can Run less removal and more hand destruction.
I have an argument: If this deck is made to blow away any creature that hits the board with Doom Blades and Throat-Goes, what makes Thoughtseize better than Duress? Duress hits everything relevant that you want to control (mostly artifacts and enchantments), and it doesn't shock you for 2 in an aggro-focused meta. Thoughtseize is GENERALLY better than Duress because it hits creatures, but with spot removal, board wipes, and threats that deal with creatures both in combat (Nighthawk) and out of combat (Demon), I think Duress is actually better than Thoughtseize, in THIS specific deck.
I think in this case you may be right. My thinking and the reason I suggested it in the video was that if you where to upgrade with the more expensive cards you could take the deck into a more hand controlled deck thus not needing as much removal spells. But i never said that in the video.
That is a good question that I don't have a good answer for. The biggest problem is it's 80% modern only cards. So it my be better to rebuild form the ground up. I know SBMTG just did a Mono-Black control deck for standard a couple days back.
KingKong22 Clash of Clans and More nah, jace the mindsculptor is probably the best. Liliana the last hope is good, but not mearly the best ever. The only place icon fits in is in tron. You are both stupid
Grey Merchant seems win more. If you have enough permenants down for it to be a win then you've likley already won the game. Playing it while you're behind barely does anything
8 rack? How? It doesn't do anything that 8 rack does except for occasionally removing cards from opponents hand. It's a "bad" 8 rack deck because it's not trying to be an 8 rack deck,.it's trying to be a control deck.
sry first time voting.... i want to see somthing with rally the anscestors......i may have spelled that wrong. but 2 decks 1 budget and 1 upgradable....thnx
As the owner of an LGS (and player), I'm often having to debunk the opinion that modern has to be expensive. As a monoblack player, this is one of the most solid budget decks I've seen. It is good against most creature-based decks in modern and it is super cheap! Congrats for the video.
I played against this deck when he was testing it and it worked well.
Why did you not end up putting languish in?
I ended up playing Mutilate over Languish because it gets better the more swamps you have in play and because this deck only runs swamps. If this was a 2 coloured deck I would have played Languish because it would be more consistent. Also you where correct Languish is $0.50, very budget.
YAH playtest friend!
I see now that I paid attention.
Thanks! I'm working on a schedule so I don't burn myself out. I enjoy making content and I want to keep it that way.

I know this vid is like three weeks old, but wouldn't Hero's Downfall also be an upgrade to Ruinous Path?
3 weeks NEW! And yes. When I was building this deck Hero's Downfall was just over $3. But since I released this video it's dropped in price. So Now it Is just bette. The only upside that Ruinous Path gives is a back up win con if needed.
Wow that was fast! Loved the vid man! I am now your proud 1435th sub! Keep up your great content!
YAH for #1435. I will call you Gary Fisher or henchman #21! Thanks for the support. I got a new video coming this Friday. Can you guess what it is. Heres a clue It's a Budget deck :)
Don't forget to vote for the next deck tech! There are 4 options: Mono-Green Stomp, Defender Mill, Mono-Red Prowess and Budget-ish Urza Tron.
mono green stomp!!!
Urza Tron!!!
Giant Monster Games Defender Mill!
Green tron is budget and pretty good, so that would be cool. However, mono red prowess is probably more competitive.
Mill would be great to see
Just found your channel, how do you only have 1000 subs. I love this channel, great work man keep it up.
0:34 done that before. Opponent was spitting out a few 1/1 creatures, he ran out of moves, defeated him through attrition, look at his hand. He was trying to make a 10/10 earlier in the game XD. Though only had one match like that happen.
He asumes i already own swamps😭
If the deck is mono black then Victim of Night is strictly better than doom blade since the double black is irrelevant
you are 100% correct. I forgot about it when building. My bad.
dudewhoisnotfunny Im glad I checked the comments, I was coming in with that same thought.
dudewhoisnotfunny it's better but definitely not strictly better. Case in point: Huntmaster of the Fells
Or grasp of darkness. it does the same jobs as dismember and disfigure, as well as doomblade
Hunt master is a small corner case, Werewolves are not played in modern and any zombie or vampire is most likely to be black. Grasp runs into problems against creatures with 5 toughness the classic 4/5 body.
I'm only talking about doom blade vs victim of the night. Once you start adding other removal like dismember then it just depends on your meta

for some upgrades, you can put victim of the nights as removal. it is perfect for most situations. then i believe 1 nyktos would not hurt (it is not the cheapest but it provides a lot of value)
I'm pretty sad to not see new videos from you. It's a great channel and I hope you return to give us new budget decks
been looking for a mono black control deck I like for ages and this is perfect :D thanks!
Glad I could help.
Why no Inquisition of Kozilek on upgrades? It basically hits almost everything on modern and in some ways is better than Thoughtsieze.
this is very true. I normals mention both. They are kinda like that couple that must always do everything together. Next time I'll mention them both.
This deck looks pretty dope! is it still viable for the current meta? trying to enter the format, and it seems like a nice entry point. idk tho
I have a mono black deck that uses the same meta, is demon vampire but is more aggro so it works like butter:
x4 Blood Artist
x4 Vampire Nighthawk
x4 Master of the Feast
x4 Desecration Demon
x2 Archfiend of Depravity
x4 Despise
x4 Tragic Slip
x4 Victim of Night
x4 Go fo the Throat
x3 Geth's Verdict
x3 Sign in Blood
21x swamps
sideboard
x1 despise
x3 Duress
x1 Geth's Verdict
x4 Dash Hopes
x3 Raise Dead
Why not run cards like wrench mind to gain card advantage in the mid game?
Hi ! As an old player coming back, i'd love to play this deck !
Could you tell me what would be better to exchange with and how many of each would you play ? ;
- Dark confidant
- Phyrexian arena
- Kalitas
- Liliana
Many thanks !
When upgrading, what would you take out for each card putting in?
Do you plan on doing a updated version of the deck with cards like "Gifted Aetherborn"? Also; as a player who plays mono-black in modern and pauper, I would like to make a recommendation. I think you are completely right about using "Ultimate Price" and "Victim of Night" over the current "Doom Blade" and "Go For The Throat".
Here is an Updated list what do you think?
tappedout.net/mtg-decks/budget-mono-black-control-budget-upgraded/
hey im terribly sorry for not getting back to you, to be honest, im little flattered how well you took such advice from my post, so it makes me feel bad for being so late. i like the changed but heres what i personally would do a run down on, and i will say this will be leaning much more on a midrange side of things
1 bojuka bog
1 nykthos, shrine to nyx(5$ish, if cut, just add swamp)
20 swamps
4 gery merchant of asp
4 vampire nighthawk
1 yahenni, undying partisan
4 victim of nights
4 ultimate price
2 phyrexian arena
1 underworld connections
1 ob nixilis reignited
4 duress
2 distress
1 sign in blood
2 geth's verdict
1 whip of erebos
1 gurmag angler
4 gatekeeper of malakir
2 glistening oil
PLEASE RETECH THIS DECK! I love it, and it has serve me well but it's not doing as well as it used to :// I would suggest Leyline of the void to shut down any graveyards. My best deck is a monoblack deck. But i lost a tournement cause My opponent were using cirkel of protection black and i cant find a way to get rekt of side enchanment cards. Help pls :(
I just found you and you are amazing. I love your presentation and enthusiasm, and your decks are great. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! it's comments like this that keep me going!
Wouldn't Massacre Wurm also be a good upgrade, seeing as how they'll start to pay once those bodies git the floor... or in this case graveyard?
oh yes. If you have it I'd say play it.
Can any minion replace Gatekeeper Of Malakir? My eshop doesnt have any of those .
I think he is one of the best in the deck. Do not replace him.
First time on your channel I love the deck. I have the cards for the upgraded version. Well I only have the Liliana of the veils
You are 80% there
my dear Giant Monster, do you mind putting a updated decklist for this deck ?? With like victims of the night and all the changes you think are better for it now ? I just bought the MTGO and I really want this to be my first deck, and I want to spend my tix wisely. If you could, I would really love it! thx
Did you look in the description of the video? It's there :)
yeah but I mean, if you would do any changes like the Victim Of The Night and stuff you said would be better
Is master of the feast a good option? They should be dead before they could get the advantage from the extra card.
+De4dPoo1 it's not a bad option. I'd say test it out.
Sounds like "the gate" from legacy. all thats missing is bitterblossom
yah it is quite close actually.
What about shimian specter?
What about Crypt Incursion? 3 life for each creature and you're already running a TON of removal.
Have you ever done a blue/green Leviathan deck with a merfolk sub-theme
I have not. Once Ixalan rotates out of Standard I’ll be revising the Merfolk deck I did.
So I would like to make this deck, but I would like to make a few upgrades but still try to keep it under $100, what additions are must haves and where to do you slot them in?
I would put in Thoughtseize or inquisition of kozelekt as your first upgrade. This will give you some hand control over your opponent.
I like this deck, and I have all this cards! (I have also thoughtseize and surgical extraction) but I have just a question: why not phyrexian obliterator in the upgrades?
phyrexian obliterator is a good option. I guess I just forgot about it.
Just bought this deck and it is a very nice budget deck. For its price it preforms very good in casual play. I would make a few upgrades before i would take this to fnm but its very solid.
That's the nice thing about budget decks. They can always get better!
How does this match up look against Jund? And how might you alter it to fit a more aggro filled meta?
This deck is built to deal with the aggro based meta. Jund is on ok match up for this deck, you'll have to fight for the win but it is completely possible.
Just getting started into playing....how does a budget deck like this actually do against non budget decks
This deck has good match ups and bad. If you go against any creature based decks (Affinity, Humans, Elves, Zoo) then you will have a very good chance at winning. Combo decks on the other hand are much harder to win against.
Does anybody have an upgraded version of this deck list? I can't figure out what to swap out for Kalitas
Kalitas easily replaces Desecration Demon because it is generally better and is in the same mana slot.
So 3 Kalitas?
I can only afford one at the moment. Could I replace Gurmag Angler with 1 Kalitas for the time being?
Would Ob Nixilis, Reignited find any home in this as it provides card draw and removal?
yes he would be a very good upgrade. Providing both card draw and creature control.
Giant Monster Games Under what slot might you put him in as a two of mostly?
hummmm because of his utility there are lots of good options to replace. my first instinct would be to replace underworld connections.
isn't bojuka bog budget enough to be in this deck?
+4RaFaeL8 it is. It would be worth running. I didn't just to keep the cost down and the mana base simple.
lashwrite is a far superior finisher.
Never gave it a try but i do see your point. If I revise the deck again. I will give it a go.
just get rid of desecration demon.
if i were to put fatal push who would i swap out?
I would not run Fatal Push in this deck. If this deck had fetch lands I would say yes but %90 of the time you will only be able to target a CMC 2 or less creature.
you should do a big tournament where you take all your decks and play them against each other until there is only one winner
I like this Idea! Maybe you'll see on soon. Do you think top 8 swiss?
Ya, that sounds good! The card kingdom youtube channel did a series called "modern gauntlet of greatness". You could do something similar with all your budget decks :)
cool deck. Heros' Downfall would be better than Ruinous Path though.
+kmp101 I agree. It's not in the deck in order to save $5 and to give an exstra win con.
Very good work so far !
Should include Crypt Ghast for the mana buff and the bonus extort.
I don't think it is necessary. We don't need the extralegal mana.
Defile would do great in this deck
Liliana is the best Planeswalker in the game
Oko: hold my elks!!!!
AND BANNED
I'd play abyssal persecutor instead of desecration demon since u have a lot of removal to sack ur own abyssal. Anyway, amazing deck dude^^
Yah I think he is a better option now that you mention it. A good upgrade :) Thanks for the comment.
why not hero's downfall instead of ruinous path?
When made the deck Hero's Downfall was $3 and Ruinous Path was $1.50. So it was for budget reasons. But, in the past 2 weeks Hero's Downfall has dropped to $1.50 as well.
It's also a back up win con if needed.
Giant Monster Games ohh but $3 is still pretty budget in modern terms :P
True but saving $5 can be a big thing for some people so I used it as a replacement.
Yeah I probably am being a bit too critical since it is only 40 bucks in budget. Either way, the video was a fun watch, thanks for replying!
I'm a little new to Magic, but wouldn't the deck be a little bit better if we put a Archfiend of Depravity in it? It will limit the creatures your opponent can have
they are both good options. I think Desecration Demon costing 4 mana is a little better.
Thank you Adrian.
You run so much removal, why run SB removal as well? Id think you would want to run creatures/extra discard or something.
Largley because the sideboard removal is case specific. Also there is just no good hand disruption that is budget. Unless you are willing to spend 2 mana? In a non budget version of this deck you can Run less removal and more hand destruction.
I just built this deck and I went 2-1 at FNM. It is pretty good
NICE! What decks did you play against?
how'd you lose?
Victim of Night?
do you have a list for the non-budget version?
I don't but I've been thinking of making a non budget mono black control.
How could you make this deck standard legal?
That is a good question that I don't have a good answer for. The biggest problem is it's 80% modern only cards. So it my be better to rebuild form the ground up. I know SBMTG just did a Mono-Black control deck for standard a couple days back.
Can we get a redo
A 3ed one?
Love this deck
Thanks Dude! It is super fun to play.
wrong Ugin the Spiritdragon is the best planeswalker
keith howard wrong, liliana the last hope is
KingKong22 Clash of Clans and More nah, jace the mindsculptor is probably the best. Liliana the last hope is good, but not mearly the best ever. The only place icon fits in is in tron. You are both stupid
We need you baaaack!
Tomorrow!
upgrade with phyrexian obliterator
Also a very good option. There are lots of good Win Con upgrades for mono black.
21 lands with a super low mana curve? -_-
I play something much like this deck and i use lashwrithe... BEST. CARD. EVER
Hero's Downfall. Use it.
Yah at the time of making this video it was $1.50 more. So to save on budget I didn't use it.
>No Grey Merchant
Are you serious now?
I tested with it. It was good but I ended up finding myself wanting more levels of control.
Grey Merchant seems win more. If you have enough permenants down for it to be a win then you've likley already won the game. Playing it while you're behind barely does anything
This is a very good point.
You got it! Thanks for helping me clarify this.
17 maindeck removal spells, wtf.
I tap 3 for...
Nope
OK I tap another 2 for..
NOPE
This list looks a LOT like modern Jund. Except Jund is in many ways better, with better wincons and manlands for inevitability.
Jund is also around $800 more expensive :)
Only 800? That'll get you a set of Goyfs. You also need Liliana, Raging Ravine, Bolt, Dark Confidant...
YAH... I was off by close to $1000
But still, if you aren't going for a budget brew, I'd say that Jund is almost strictly better and seems to play a LOT like this deck.
If you aren't going for budget brew, you likely wouldn't be watching "Budget Modern Deck" videos :l
...8 rack...this is a bad 8 rack Deck...but also more budget and has some good match ups
8 rack? How? It doesn't do anything that 8 rack does except for occasionally removing cards from opponents hand. It's a "bad" 8 rack deck because it's not trying to be an 8 rack deck,.it's trying to be a control deck.
JTMS is the best walker in MTG, not LOTV.
+Matthew Coleman he is also banned so it's not a good comparison.
Giant Monster Games True, but the statement was that she is the best planeswalker in MTG. If we are looking at them in a vacuum, JTMS is better.
sub Soulflayer for Gurmag Angler - good chance it can pick up flying, lifelink & deathtouch plus its cheaper
sry first time voting.... i want to see somthing with rally the anscestors......i may have spelled that wrong.
but 2 decks 1 budget and 1 upgradable....thnx
