Jasmin, thank you for such a concise and complete overview of priesthood. I wish more people spent the time to understand it. It took me a while to learn and understand it. I recognize all the sources you are pulling from and it's obvious that you have put in the time. Many of the resources are not very old so now is the best time for everyone to learn about what the priesthood is and understand it. Valerie Hudson's explanation of two roles two trees for me was so important. Without it I think it's hard to fully understand and appreciate the gender roles. It helped me to understand that men and women both have priesthood they just exercise it differently because they have different roles and to understand better the roles of men and women and just how important women's role is. I think it's awesome that God taught an overview of the plan of salvation and the roles of the two genders with a simple teaching about two trees in the garden of Eden.
Have listened to several of your videos so far…all excellent, well done, detailed, accurate, informative, etc…keep up the great work! There’s so much misunderstanding within the church regarding these matters.
Here is a thought I’ve had: Can 11 year old girls (turning 12) enter the temple? Yes. Can 11 year old boys (turning 12) enter the temple? No. Unless they first enter into the covenant of the priesthood. Can adult women enter the temple to be endowed? Yes. Can adult men? No. Unless they enter into the covenant of the Melchizedek priesthood. It seems to me that women, by their divine nature, can enter the Holy Temple where men cannot without first being sanctified by entering into the oath and covenant of the priesthood.
I am so impressed with all of your videos, which is to say your knowledge and understanding of these holy concepts. This one is particularly excellent.
Here is another facet that ties into what you have explained very well. It is also based on the roles of men and women in mortality and in preparing us for eternity in His kingdom. God shared two of his powers with us based on the unique nature of men and women. 1-He shared the primary power / responsibility of creation of our mortal bodies with Women. To bring life into this world and to care for and nurture with the divinely female attributes of selflessness and sacrifice. 2- He shared his power / authority of governance ( presiding in the home) and adminstration (authority and organization of the church) with the responsibility to righteously nurture and serve his children. If we can see and understand these two critical and equal roles of women and men, we can see see how we all are given the opportunity to refine ourselves and increase our Eternal traits and characteristics. In doing so we become more like our Heavenly parents and our Savior. There are a lot of things that happened in the pre-existance that we have memory of here in mortality. So our mortal perspective is very limited. I have full faith that we will fully understand how and why things happen here, and we will be very OK with it. He will heal us of all our brokeness if we choose to let him.
Notice that in all the scriptural accounts of the creation that only Adam is commanded not to partake of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Only after that is Eve mentioned. Later on it is Adam that is told, "I have forgiven thee thy transgression in the Garden of Eden." For some reason the sequence is different in the temple.
The reason is the temple creation portion is not a retelling of the scriptural accounts but rather our journey as if we were Adam and Eve. It’s a presentation of our fall.
@@CMZIEBARTH I know what you are saying, but the Adam and Eve story is not a retelling of the actual events of Adam and Eve lives, but is using the accounts as allegories for our progressing. It isn’t about Adam or Eve, it’s about you. Even the OT accounts are believed to be ceremonial and allegorical by many scholars.
@@RecoveringUGrad The scriptural accounts are about what happened with Adam and Eve, even though some symbolism is involved. The temple account takes that and adjusts it to be more symbolic of our journey.
In the New Testament, all believers, men, women, children, and even black people have been priests now for 2,000 years. It is not a position in a church. It is who we are in Christ. God himself has made us priests. I Peter 2:5, 9 Revelation 1:6; 5:10 The true and living God never banned black people from the priesthood from the 1840s until 1978. God is not racist.
If the women of the Church do not have priesthood power and authority then all of ordinances for women in the temple have no recognition from God. Ergo by definition (if the LDS religion is true) women must have priesthood power and authority *or* the ordinances of washing and annionting, and the endowment itself (which they - like men - are commanded to received) are not valid.
@@colinmccann7123 I understand that what you state is the official (current) explanation (and I accept that for what it means). But what I'm looking at is the efficacy of the temple ordinances that are performed by women for women (no men involved). Women must be able to exercise the full *ordinance power* of the priesthood or those ordinances aren't valid. Looking to history we know that in the early Utah temples women were ordained and set apart as temple healers, so the precedent of women exercising the priesthood power in the temples is solidly established. It was not until the early to mid 1900s that Relief Society sisters were instructed to discontinue giving blessings using consecrated oil, but that they should call upon the elders for blessings. Much of what we take as "givens" regarding priesthood and women today in the Church runs quite counter to what was practiced for the first 80 to 100 years of the Church's existence.
Women of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do not need to HOLD priesthood power...(that is our times at the moment) they RECEIVE the AUTHORITY from the PROPER keys to ACT under the power BECAUSE of their role in the Father's plan... it is a different role then the man's but is EQUAL. Just like a key and lock, or an outlet and a plug etc. Anything that takes two to create power. Can't have ("power") one without the other.
If you need a temple, garments, rituals, ordinances, oaths, laws, temple recommends to enter the kingdom of God, then you do not have faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. You dilute Jesus Christ in your religion. All you need is Jesus Christ, He is all sufficient, the true Jesus. Hebrews 10:20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh. The Christian faith is believing and having faith in Jesus Christ and you will receive His rewards, you must trust Him. The Priesthood belongs to Jesus and Jesus only, nothing was given to the Mormon Church regarding any keys or priesthood. Jesus Christ is our High Priest, 1 Peter 2:5 You also as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices to God through Jesus. 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people. The priesthood belongs to Gods people, not those who deny Christ, no mention of Mormons, there are no scriptures saying the priesthood belongs to the Mormons.
Hmmm we are his own special people . We are Israel and know of lineage and tribe when we join the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints . We are his jewels his chosen people with his Priesthood .
Uh…that’s not was has happened at all. Those who were excommunicated where publicly fighting against the church and leading people away and refused to stop. That is text book apostasy.
I guess you are not a very good listener when Pres. Nelson taught if you are a single mom or single and you say I have no priesthood in my home ? You are not telling the truth . Go back and watch that one . If you are endowed you share priesthood .

Lovely way to look at the complementary roles of men and women in the priesthood!
This is amazing! Thank you! I've struggled with this concept for so many years, and your video is helping make it clearer to me.

Wow, the stuff about the 2 trees representing the roles of men and women was mind-blowing.
Yes I had heard that before about the two trees .

Where were 'baptisms for the dead' performed in the First Century of our Common Era; for they clearly were not permitted in Herod's Temple?
Eve received the Holy Temple Priesthood garments thus she was a priestess.
