Am I the only one to think that Gergiev is to Tchaikovsky's Symphonies what von Karajan is to Beethoven's? He has that passion that blows you away, sinks you into despair, elevates you to the highest places in heaven.

The more I listen to Tchaikovsky, the more I can identify with him as a person. He was a genuine, insecure, brilliant man. A very real man. A man who lived a life that went against the norms of what a man should be. He was not only ahead of his time in his music, but also in society. That's what makes his music sublime. His music will truly live forever and, if there's any comfort in it for the composer himself, his music will only get more and more appreciated. Thank you, genius.

Thanks for sharing. Did you know Tchaikovsky dedicated this (Symphony No. 4 in F minor) to. Nadezhda Filaretovna von Meck (1831-1894)? She was a remarkable Russian businesswoman who left an indelible mark on the world of arts, particularly music.
Beyond Tchaikovsky, she also supported other musicians, including Nikolai Rubinstein and Claude Debussy. Nadezhda von Meck’s influence extended far beyond her lifetime. Her unwavering commitment to the arts shaped the course of music history.

Великолепное исполнение оркестром. following up on my last comment re: conductors smiling, i recall well that Solti (cso) did NOT smile at all, when he came out, and would stand, facing the orchestra for the longest time until orchestra hall was as quiet as possible. when, at the concert's end, he turned to take the wild applause from the packed house, he did smile in a lovely way. btw, this was b.e.s.o. = before the era of the standing ovation which, when i went to many concerts of the st. louis symphony which, to my semi-untrained ear, sounded just as fine as the cso under solti, etc, standing ovations became more and more frequent. good or bad. i don't know. you almost NEVER see a european audience stand. one exception, at the end of the rachmaninoff piano concerto #3, with anna federova as the solist, the audience just goes beserk, finally standing, i think to her surprise, and that of the conductor and orchestra. (sorry can't remember the exact name, i think something like the northwest germany radio orchestra. if you love rachmaninoff's concertos, there are vids of her soloing the 2nd and 3rd on youtube, and i HIGHLY recommend you watch them.

Mahler and Bruckner probably got inspired by Tchaikovsky, but their music is very different than Tchaikovsky's music. Mahler's symphonies are longer and richer, harder to like fist but then you can understand why they're better. Tchaikovsky's music is pure romantic whereas Bruckner and Mahler's music is postromantic.

Beatiful Symphony by Tchiakovsky. One of my favorite symphonies. Dedicated to his Mescenas Madame Von Neck. None the less a complex symphony. THere is much to say about it in this few lines, but his biographers explain it right or wrong in great depth, like: Tchaikovsky: The Man Revealed by John Suchet; Tchaikovsky: The Man and His Music by David Brown; Tchaikovsky: The Quest for the Inner Man by Alexander Poznansky some of them focus in critizim, rather than him a muscical genius. I would just stay awy of Constatine Floros. Could not finish reading the latter.

A superb performance and excellent audio marred by truly inept video direction. Shaky handheld cameras, lengthy dissolves that went out of fashion in the 1960's, unnecessary tracking shots. Good direction should be transparent with the viewer noticing only the music - Hannah Dorn's work with the Berlin Philharmonic is the epitome of this style.
