I'm a Shotokan practitioner. It's interesting to see the Tekki Kata done in the Shorin Ryu stances and different interpretations of the arm movements. I can see how Funakoshi Sensei adopted and changed the movements for Shotokan...since this is probably how he originally learned the kata.
Yes it is how he learned it and how he taught it. It changed drastically after his death. If shorin ryu had a son in special ed classes it’s name would be shotokan. It’s not even a shadow of what Funakoshi sensei originally took to the mainland.
@@joumasepoes88 I am not so sure about this. There's a video available showing Funakoshi's method from 1924 which doesn't look much different in the way kata was performed or techniques executed than it does today.
Love this interview. An amazing character and you brought out the best in him. You are doing an absolutely brilliant job... what you are producing is art in itself. Like many Shorin stylists, he embodies the phrase "an iron fist in a velvet glove".
Incredibly uniquely uplifting man. A purist in Karate, the best balance in mind and body. Very impressive teacher in his attention and kindness to his student seen in his thorough clean humble teaching style. I would apply with him if i wanted to learn karate. Sorry for the loss of his student Perez, he looked like a great student, what happened to him ?
His definitions on Atifa, Musei, etc were very insightful. I look forward to incorporating these into my training. My teacher is Seikichi Iha who also teaches this style.
@@yogi8337 Iha Sensei shows more than explains when we train with him. He likes us apply it and coach us through on how to make it better. Maeshiro Sensei, most likely, does the same. Since this was an interview definitions are more fitting.

Hi I am planning to travel to Okinawa to learn Karate and I my instructor of Karate have told me about Sensie Morinobu Maeshiro. would you be able to tell me where his Dojo in Okinawa. Thank you sir
I've thought about creating an episode talking about what older masters usually eat. In general it is plenty of rice, veggies, miso soup, some fish, limited meat, and limited portion sizes. Many of the masters drink socially but in moderation, I don't know any that smoke, and of course they all continue to exercise regularly even if it is not at the same level as in their youth.

I’ve met a lot of famous Martial Artists in my life, of course I had left over 15 years ago. A good friend of mine is up to his 9th Dan, his wife is 5th or 6th. I can’t get around anymore. I got up to my Ni Kyu and my health got the worst of me.
Very very nice and knowledgeable, Respected Hanshi , Please send me your Gmail, online and offline training programs and other details Thanks and regards Pawan Kumar Sharma
These interviews are gold.
With these videos you're actively making karate's history, thank you.
Thanks that's my hope. Try and document the thoughts of these teachers while they are still with us.

These are so great….the history, knowledge and their humbleness of their art is a lesson we all should take note of. Thank you!!

Karate-do de Okinawa....es importante diferenciar eso.
At his age, many can barely get off the bed. Amazing physical condition. And how on Earth did he managed to stay so thin, what did he eat?
