This may have already been answered and yea the video is old. Maybe it’ll help someone referring to the video for carb help in the current. So no need to order or buy aftermarket or OEM or any new pms screws. The OEM screws will do just fine unless you want the aftermarket screws to be able to turn without a screw driver but I don’t recommend them. I’m a gold certified yamaha mechanic dealing with thousands of these v star 650’s and 1100’s. Hope this helps. Oh, and like he said be ultra careful drilling through brass plug. Sneak up on breaking through it. If you go through like a home invasion the drill tip will contact the screw slot wile turning, grab, and bottom it out, 9 times outa ten it’ll snap the adjustment screw in half leaving half the pms screw inside. Good luck getting that out. Due to seat design drilling it out is not an option carbs will turn into scarp
Hi wade, I just got a 2012 650 with 7500kms, goes ok but is a bit hard to start and a bit ruff at idle, I took the plugs out and the insulators are white not brown, it has Vans&Hines short shots , would I get away with riching up the mixture or would I have to get bigger jets please
I have a 2002 Vstar classic and it’s having the same issue I did exactly what was told on the video and it’s still having the issue any suggestions? The quote I got on this also is crazy! Thanks!
Take the air inbox off and cover the duct that goes in the engine with your hand. If that is going to make it work then you have an air leak somewhere and if so you can start with the air filter to make sure is properly sealed and work your way up under the tank and into the engine/carbs
I think that would do it. You still have to drill tho. I got those screws in a carb rebuild kit and that's why i installed them. You can also adjust them by hand when on the factory ones you need a screwdriver
I have a 2007 Yamaha V Star 650 silverado and it has the same problem as yours bike. I am going to try to do this. Where did you buy an after market PMS screw? Thank in advance
I couldn't find the after market one from Amazon that fits on my 2007 Yamaha V star 650. Can you send my the part number that you ordered from Amazon? Thanks.
It helped a little, in my case i had to "play" with the air intake as well. It is very helpful if you want to synchronize the carbs or if you changed the exhaust or air intake and other stuff like that
I don't have the bike anymore. It's literally just a screw you can turn one way or the other. What works on my bike might not work on yours so filming the adjustment i consider being irrelevant
Excellent video. Great attitude of wanting to help others. Top marks!!
Thank you!

What is the quote you got? How much? Probably a new carb (1000$) plus labor?!
What size drill bit did you use?
The smallest one i could find in my tool box. Doesn't really matter. Just you a small one, smaller than the cap itself
Would just turning the screws be enough to fix this, rather than fully replacing the PMS screws? Thank you for the video?!
I think that would do it. You still have to drill tho. I got those screws in a carb rebuild kit and that's why i installed them. You can also adjust them by hand when on the factory ones you need a screwdriver
He just wants to adjusted it by hand with the thumb screws
How you like the new screws?
I don't have the bike anymore, but the screws did the job well!

Thanks so much for creating this video. I need to do the same thing on my 650
You are very welcome! Took me a lot of time to figure this out! I knew it will be useful for someone else like it was for me
Going to work on it now did your bike run good I had trouble on the freeway not Accelerating cuts off
Mine worked perfectly fine
You might have an issue with the air intake or an air leak. I had to modify my air intake as well
7924 Cooper Overpass
Did it help???

No video of you actually adjusting them?
