I'm running 3-4 times a week since august. I don't have clear plans for next year, but last week I saw beatiful 47km trail run event in my country which should be in October 2022. My dream is to run a marathon next year and this 47km trail might be my goal. Looks crazy today, but I have almost a year to prepare, so why not? I'm 36 year old guy who was fit enough whole my life, but it is my first time when I am so consistent with my slow running training and diet. 4 months of work and I feel that my shape is the best in my life at the moment and my motivation is still growing. There is no way back. This is new me and I am gonna try to do my first marathon next year!

@@wildgingerruns Thank you! Wait, so technically 47 km distance is an ultra marathon already? Sounds even more badass than "simple" marathon :D I will definitely check your book. I ran few 5km pretty steep trails, finished somewhere in a middle and it is local running championship with 7 stages. People can choose 5km or 10 km distances. 10km looks pretty scary for me so far, so I run 2 stages out of 3 and there will be 4th one in december 19th. I still call myself a newbie, but I'm planning to choose 10km in spring stages. Will be interesting :)

I’ve done many 10ks and half’s and signed up for a full marathon but bottled it at the end. I hope to do an Ultra next year. Thanks for all the tips.

@@wildgingerrunswent really well thank you. Finished 15th out of 140 odd runners. The wheels came off pretty early, injuries gave me some abuse and my running slowly turned into a hobble/ faster limp. Very happy to just get a finish 👍

Loved this and needed it after watching some scarily pushy You Tube beginner Ultra videos about training every day! Finding that hard to do but have another 3 months to go.... EEEK

I really have to stress out how big the very first tip is: _It doesn't always get worse_ .
It's not that obvious, and when you are in the middle of a trail race, with a stupid ammount of km ahead, and your knees give you the nightmares, it all sums down to the strength of your mind at that moment, and nothing else. Sure if you have reached the physical limit of your body it will not make a difference, but if that's not the case, it's really up to how well trained your very mind is.
