The wrap dresses and the blue wide neck t-shirt look good on you in my opinion! But then again, I learn that no matter how much people told me I look good in certain clothes that I don't feel so good, comfortable or confident in, I still wouldn't wear them.
as a fellow FG, wrap dresses are a NIGHTMARE! I can't pin point exactly what my problem is with them, but I think it's just the lack of any sort of structure. Even the ones you can tighten to fit your waist tend to look like a sack of potatoes on me.
As a romantic it was interesting to watch this and see that the types of items that work best for me are the ones that you regret buying for yourself. I always gravitate towards wrap dresses, maxi skirts and wide neck shirts
As a natural, I also feel the same way. I find her content very interesting. Gamines must be very lucky to have someone like her to guide them. Still hoping that there would be a someone for other types too haha.
5 pieces? Wow, half of my wardrobe is a complete fail... Now that I educated myself I regret it so much I hadn't find your videos earlier :( I wasted a lot of money.
I have a lot of items that aren't necessarily "FG" but I noticed that if a piece is just overall flowing and loose it's a no for me. When I shop now, I always just try to think if I'm going to look like I'm being swallowed in what I'm wearing. If I do, I don't buy it or I add a belt :)
Yes, I'm noticing this, too. I was typed a "romantic", but I don't agree now. (1) These light colors tend to wash me out. (2) The flowy clothes just don't fit me right.(3) Darker clothes and shorter, straighter hair fit my personality better!!... I have a large bust and I'm a short rectangle. Even when I had medium boobs, I was a short rectangle. Another thing is that Romantic calls for florals-- I have looked through my camera roll on the phone, and florals do me no favors. The geometrics do. Narrow looks good on me and wide looks overwhelming on my frame. (I am 5'2" with shoes and 160-165 pounds, but it's muscle, not so much fat). Matte lipstick looks more right on me than glossy kinds. And those rounded cardigans that you drape on-- They don't provide enough structure! I'm coming to understand that my clothes need structure... So, I'm definitely a GAMINE, and not a Romantic. Shew!!! The money and time I have wasted figuring all this out! I've also figured out that i DO need more electric colors and not the more muted ones.. Uggggghhhh!!
I hate wrap dresses and maxi skirts too! I’m a soft gamine (or at least I think) but now I’m like maybe I’m a flamboyant gamine. Idk tho! I resonate with soft gamine but also the flamboyant gamine. I’ve been doing a style overhaul for some time now and realize I only wear certain colors: autumnal, prints and natural fabric pieces. It’s been a fun and interesting journey 😊❤️
That's why I do a lot of alterations. For example, as a proud owner of a pair of trapezoidal hips myself I often have to take away from the hip curve which in a pencil skirt tends to just "stand empty".
Thanks for the vid ^^ need to do the same but i keep thinking "well its still functional" or "i might want it in the future" or "its a backup for when all my other stuff are in the laundry n i dont feel like doing the laundry"
I’ve done a deep cleaning out of my closet after finding my seasonal color, post college, and doing the Marie Kondo method of seeing wether it brings joy when you’re holding it as well as being mindful of my mood when I’m wearing something and tossing it if I feel bland or not put together. Im a FG too!
I liked this video! I'm drawn to wrap dresses, but a lot of them don't work for me as a SG. Maxi skirts that aren't tapered on me just make me look wider than I am because even if there's waist emphasis the skirts just don't follow the lines of my body.
I understand about wearing shirts that have wide open necklines like that. I bought a flowy shirt like that some time ago and I realise that I never wear it. I always feel like it's falling off me if that makes sense...but if the neckline is round but the fabric is more stiff or structured I find that's been a bit more flattering for me. Dunno if that really is a type thing or a preference thing since I'm sort of waffling between types right now.
Thank you frani !! A lot of time I see something I really love but I just KNOW that it wouldn’t look good . Like super flowy sundress’s/ maxi dresses . Or anything that’s super flowy or frilly / vintage. They are So pretty but they just don’t serve me . So I like to wear semi matching sets / rompers instead. It’s still that fun summer look (some can still be very elegant) but it compliments my lines . Also halters and tunic tops . Especially as a leotard - A big no here haha . That’s also another area I’m becoming more aware of flattering my lines in (the leotards/ warm ups I wear when I dance ) I feel like that would be a really cool idea to research for myself and maybe put that out in the online community... dancewear recommendations for kibbe types ?! .
LOVE the black top + flowy skirt, and the Gap v-neck tee with pants! Thanks for the ideas for making my wardrobe work as an SG in her late 30's who looks 10 years younger!
For dresses, I find patterns help a bunch. I personally don't mind maxi-length skirts so long as I pair it with a shorter top (or tuck it in at the waist) and wear shoes that show the tops of my feet. And I was surprised to learn that I find wrap dresses-a particular wrap dress, I should say-rather flattering. I wouldn't like myself in the orangey-rust wrap dress you showed, I don't think. It's just too wide. All in all, I think it's important to let yourself "try out" different garments because you may surprise yourself.
I no longer buy/wear each of these items as well! I have done the Kibbe test several times and always come out as a SC but after watching your videos I am now thinking I might be FG, as I relate so much to your videos.
I've let go of so many of the same things! I think midi-length skirts and coats achieve the feeling of drama I was going for with maxis and flatter me much better as a soft gamine
Most of this I’m so on board with 😄 Though, I love wide neckline shirts, especially with more form fitting bottoms, or at the moment I wear them especially with overalls. But I wouldn’t wear the two you showed because the sleeve length combined with the wide neck makes it sit wrong. Wide neck with three quarter sleeves is 👌🏻 for me 💖
Lovely video! It's so interesting to hear your thought process....Do you like ruffles? I think an asymmetric dress with ruffles on the edges would look SO gorgeous on you, and also off the shoulder 😍 XX
Thank you! And I tend to steer clear of ruffles, but maybe that would be a cool experiment to try in my search for dresses. And yes! I love off the shoulder looks for me.
@@franibeard I think it depends where the ruffles are on your body that could celebrate your curves! Could be so lovely on you in my humble opinion 😃💛 Aah so lovely about the off shoulder Xxx
It almost helps me better to watch these videos of what is not for the type. I agree to all these things. I’m still confused as to how I can be a flam gam when I’m 173 cm tall…. Could I be a flam natural? But I NEED those fun elements and I have a youthful face.
I personally love wrap dresses on me and I thought I was a FG too. But looking at your frame and shape, I do look shorter, wider and curvier than you. So I might be a soft gamine in the end? But I completely agree on the wide neck shirts, it’s the worst style on me too. But usually when I like the pattern and colour of a blouse or shirt, it comes with a wide neckline of course 😭
I tried to get a wrap dress once. It looked so ridiculous on me 😂 it's sad because it was a beautiful linen expensive one from etsy. Eh. I'm soft gamine but it doesn't work with me. Also I dont know whats your height but when I shop fast fashion I make sure it's from the petite collection. (Dog is so cute)
Aww that's such a bummer!! I have yet to find an wrap dress that makes me feel good. And yes! I've actually been shopping in the kids section for some things! Works like a charm! (And thank you
I've definitely thought about it, but it's not in my budget at the moment, so it's just been sitting in my drawer for the last year. Time to just let it go...
Being a gamine is tough these days. Most clothing retailers sell merchandise that is tailored to Naturals and Classics. I hear that Dramatics and Romantics have a hard time finding clothes too. Most women are either some type of Natural or Classic. Gamines, Dramatics and Romantics are rare. I used to buy a lot of my clothes from Loft. Sadly, not anymore. They use to sell a lot of styles that were perfect for gamine body types. They’ve recently changed the style of their merchandise that is more suited for Naturals and Classics. I was so disappointed. I even sent them an email asking why the abrupt change. I even explained to them about body types and how they’ve done a mis-service to women like me who are having trouble finding somewhere to buy clothes. Naturals and Classics have plenty of options. There was no reason for them to change up the styles for a group of women who have a ton of retailers to shop from.
I agree with loft! I’m a gamine as well and it’s hard finding clothes. I have gotten a few items from ModCloth but I’m very particular with the items I pick - it’s hard finding stores for gamines? Idk where to shop sometimes 🤦🏾♀️
I agree! As FG I have a hard time finding clothes that actually fit. I actually go to the girls’ section sometimes to get the boxy shape and cropped look.
I love wrap dresses but they definitely need to be more fitted in the arms and the upper torso. The second dress actually looks pretty cute on you, I bought an over the knee boots just like the one you have and the issue is the heel (too thick needs to be more triangular) and the overall shape of the toe, it gives a witchy feel.

Can always save unflattering T-shirts for sleeping or wearing under sweaters 😊
Also for hairdrying if the material’s right!

I feel like the short terracotta wrap dress and the black maxi skirt= black vest combo would both suit you loads if you put a wide belt around them. X
Hmm maybe that would be something worth trying in the future if I really wanted to make the piece work. Thank you!
