  • I'm on the journey of learning how to keep a Bigsby in tune. This video shares a little bit of that process and some of the things I'm doing to help. I hope it helps you!
    I will post an update here in the description or make another video soon to share any results or more findings.
    UPDATE: 12/12/21
    So while the sound and tone from the new roller bar is definitely improved(IMO), my tuning issues remain. I'm starting to begin to think I may actually have some bad tuners or something... Not sure what the culprit is cause I've watched almost every tutorial on here and spent so much time making sure everything, bridge, nut, roller bar is frictionless.
    I'll make another video when I try out some new things!

    Just leave that front bar off or run the strings over the top of it. You don't need that break angle and it causes problems.

    I think you should find a way to reduce the break angle between the trem and the roller bridge.

    I have a Gretch with the old style of bridge without individual saddles, and no tuning problems with the Bigsby.

      Yup. The old aluminum bridge is great. It actually rocks back and forth with the strings when you use the Bigsby. Almost never goes out of tune.

    Very good points you are making, rollers on the nut would also help as well.
    If you use locking tuners your strings will not loosen and tuning will be much faster.

    A tech who knows what they're doing can set up a guitar with a bigsby to stay in tune without needing a roller bridge. If I spent the kind of money a veritas guitar costs and it came with a bigsby stock and wouldn't stay in tune i'd be very unhappy.

    A lot of times the bigsby gets gets the blame, when cheap strings is the problem

    How would the bar bind up if you overtightened the mounting screws?

  • @Dbj5555555
    @Dbj5555555 8 місяців тому +1

    Don’t tighten the screws all the way. That’s what the felt is for. If the arm does not drop easily it’s not right.

    to improve the tuning stability use nut sauce this will reduce string stretching. if you do not have locking tuners, make sure you only wrap the string once around the peg. The more winds of string around the tuning peg, the more the string can stretch and go out of tune.

    I have 2 Gretsch. I find the issues are with the nut more then the Bigsby. slots not cut correct or just need a bit of graphite or nut sauce on the cheap chapstick can be used. Other problems is putting on new strings and not getting all the slack off the tuning posts. Bigsb's take a lot of guf when it isn't them at all.

      Callaham Front Roller Bar for Bigsby. Just do a Google search and you’ll find it. I think I bought mine directly from Callahan or from Reverb.com.

    I've got two Gretsch's (G5420t) and (G7593t-BD) and have never had a single tuning issue ever, both have Bigsbys too? The G5420t I added a rollerbridge and Lizard Spit lube on the nut and it stays in tune for days and weeks. The Billy Duffy White Falcon I've never had an issue with. Virtually all tuning issues are nut related, nothing more.

      Hey! I just posted an update in the comments section. I'm still having issues. But I will say that the upgraded roller bar made my tone a tad warmer and it did increase the sustain for me. Or another way to put it is... the tone feels a tad fuller.

    you should replace the spring

    • @joshuaaldy
      @joshuaaldy  2 роки тому +1

      I actually bought a couple new springs. And swapped them out, but it hasn't helped. Currently I'm working with a setup technician and I think we're gonna end up replacing the bridge. I've discovered there is some play in the saddles of my Tone Pros Roller Bridge. So next video I'm either going to replace it or rig up a way to remove the play in the bridge. Thanks for the suggestion though!
