Hello everyone, I want to clarify that the purpose of this video is not to bring down Meovv or undervalue their talent and hard work. This is purely my personal perspective on their debut song, the music video, and the stylistic choices made by their company. I believe certain aspects could have been handled differently to further highlight their incredible potential, but that’s just my opinion. Meovv is a group of talented, beautiful young women who are at the very beginning of their journey. There’s so much room for growth, and I truly believe they will continue to evolve and improve over time. My comments are about their debut work, not a reflection of their overall talent or effort. I also want to stress that we shouldn’t bring one group down to lift another. Every artist has their strengths, and they all deserve our respect and support. The comparison to Blackpink wasn’t intended to diminish Meovv but to point out similarities in creative influences, as both groups have worked with Teddy, whose signature style has inspired fans worldwide. Blackpink has built an incredible legacy, and it’s natural for their juniors, like Meovv, to draw inspiration from their seniors. This connection is something to celebrate, as it shows how much Meovv has the potential to learn and grow. YG chose, trained and created BP. Teddy was just their main songwriter but YG team was behind their production and promotion. It was the YG machinery who made BP the biggest gg. Teddy is overrated. 10 years and counting, TBL has not produced one single homegrown successful artist/group
@ Somi was already known before she joined TBL - she was a JYP trainee and part of a reality show to choose Twice’s members, and another reality show where she was the top winner and became the center of another group IOI. She is not a homegrown talent of TBL. And see where her career is now - promoted infrequently.
BP was built in Hype (YG's specialization) the girls become great performers. The only real Singer is Rosé (no hate guys be a greater performer doesn't make you a singer and vice versa ). But YG has lost its touch and Ted is - my opinion- a overrated songwriter/producer.

Coz y’all know what? YG himself has a different taste in choosing the final members YG(YHS) has eyes for superstars but Teddy’s taste is more on visuals! So in general it is not the teddy formula or the songs he create it is how the members of the group enterprets the song just like BP look at how they execute the songs so amazingly meanwhile the same music goes for meovv but couldn’t work coz theres something lacking anout them. A great example is that BABYMONSTER which is selected by YHS same goes as how he selected BP members like the way he chooses feels really complete BM has different producer but look at how they execute their songs so good. Others say that BM won’t succeed if they are not under teddys music production but look at them now under a different music production but they the most successful 5th gen group. Again it is NOT teddy it is always THE ARTIST!!! Big shout out to YG himself for having such a high standards he indeed creates Iconic superstars.
I think you have the right idea here. The artists are the ones who bring the song to life and make it work or not. That's why when I watch survival shows cover Blackpink songs, there's always something lacking and the impact of the song is lost. The first cover of a Blackpink song that really wowed me was Babymonster's cover of Don't know what to do and that's what made me a fan of BM. When I watch BM, I feel like all their members have some IT factor that makes them stand out. I haven't got the same feeling from anyone on Meovv yet so far, but I will still watch their development.
Bts and BP had got this much popularity is due them being individually different from each members that gives them more fans overall as group and solo stans for each members.
It's actually YG artists who have unique style and voice that make Teddy's songs MASTERPIECE!! I can imagine, If any YG artist sing IZNA's (na na na) part in YG style and MEOW rap part in YG style 🔥🔥🔥!!
Agree that it's still early. Babymonster, IMHO, took a year to finally find their groove with "Drip." Meovv has the talent, they just haven't found their groove yet, but I expect 2025 will change all that...

Don't get me wrong i myself watched the mv like 5 -6 times but most of the views were bught by YG because everyone hated the song saying it was blackpink coded. There werent that much organic views but sheesh did get quite a lot views, I mean YG did buy some for sheesh aswell but they had more anticipation for sheesh cause ahyeon was back.

YG’s biggest strength is how they shape individuals into true artists. In their groups, you clearly see each member’s unique identity and artistic contribution. They’re fully involved in the creative process, bringing originality to every project.. whether it’s a boy group or a girl group. From the first glance, you can tell BabyMonster is a YG group. Many even compare them to Blackpink without knowing they’re from the same label. Some might say they’re copying Blackpink, but the two are completely different. Funny enough, Meovv’s music is closer to Blackpink’s style, yet people rarely make that connection.
Here’s my opinion. Their debut song is a 6.8/10 for me. The song was okay but also not impressive. The term “yeah” was so repetitive and used OVER 81+ times! This song became a forgotten to me. Yes, AI BP version sounds better, but giving them this is OFFENSIVE 😭 I genuinely wanted to hear MORE. Unfortunately, not one member stood out to me in the rap or vocal line. Maybe this song couldn’t show case more of their talent? Anyway, they are just starting all of this so they have time to WOW us and maybe they’ll have something else in-store for the viewers :)
I may also agree that their MV production wasn’t captivating enough either. There’s a couple of issues but there’s room for improvement for some issues ❤

Looks like YG plays that differentiation rather than Teddy in Blackpink. Rose' has the benefit of Bruno Mars and herself as the director in production in both her videos. Simple set videos but so captivating. ClikClak was also quite simple in the video but the Black and white and the Baby Monster girls have so much star quality the video becomes so captivating.
I really felt that, out of all the girl k-pop groups, meovv members all all the same person, except the different lip one. The plastic surgeries also helps to the clone felling. I don't like it. But the girls are not bad. I feel like meovv has potential. But I also think I will let this group marinate for about 3 years before taking a look at their discography to judge again.
Meovv’s MV looks like a mix of y2k NewJeans minimalist style, with Blackpink’s no-story MV style. I think they wanted to get the spirit of both successful groups but ended up with none of the charm that those two groups have.

tbh babymonster has more powerful vocals than blackpink, im saying this as a ygstan...yg knows time changes and the need for strong vocalists is needed more than visuals...he literally went back to 2ne1 formula thats why babymonster vibe is similar to 2ne1 more than blackpink, while meovv has blackpink aura

Just because one group made it so far doesn't mean every group will. I am not trying to hate, but he (Teddy) does the same thing each time. I think every member should have a special thing, a special personality, something that can have the uniqueness of each member. A group takes time, but Meovv's debut seemed rushed. I am one of the little percent that liked Meovv's debut song. That doesn't mean I don't think they were rushed. I think 'Toxic' was a great song to show tgeir skills, but charisma and personality is also a major thing in groups. It is what makes them unique, so many people can stay hooked to them. It's just because yg formula aged really badly... Also, meovv has MUCH worse songs than blackpink. At the time when blackpink debuted this strong girlcrush concept was somewhat revolutionary, but now everyone knows that you could give yg songs to any of their girl groups and it would fit. They don't have their own unique identities, but fans still think it's just "yg style" (I think it's just laziness and lack of creativity).

Teddy believed in his own hype that he alone is the reason for BP’s success and tried to duplicate it with MEOVV unsuccessfully. Part of YG’s “formula” is heavily investing in their artists’ training for YEARS before debut. Even GD trained for 11 years. No one can debut until they’re good and ready. That’s why their artists are known for excellent stage presence, strong performance skills and unique vocal colors/tone.

While I agree with your opinion, I think we're all got so used with instant success that we're downplaying Meovv's achievement so far. It's totally normal for a new group to have no individuality yet. Take Newjeans for example, everyone said they not only sounds similar but also looks similar (at least Meovv girlies don't looks like twins), or even IVE where ppl already knew Wonyoung and Yujin and they called the other girls as "& friends", ppl also said aespa members were bland and nobody stands out. Usually it takes time for fans (or general public) to learn about their personalities and it's okay
Tbh, I don't think anyone will replicate BP's success ever again. My ult GG is BP but there's no denying that BM has better vocals, yet they aren't as big. And its not just BP, the same goes for every group that found their own unique road to success. Even Big Hit couldn't replicate BTS' success with its new groups even though they are all very successful. Like YG also can't replicate Big Bang's success with its subsequent boy groups. New groups and their producers should try to go their own unique way instead of trying to replicate a group's success. Also, being an idol is so different to being just a singer or dancer. They need to have this extra little something something, great aura on stage, and something that just makes you so interesting and alluring to other people. One of the most important things is also the group dynamic and how cohesive they are together. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with just having a work relationship, but groups that have a close bond and feel family-like hit different, and fans can often see this too. However, this does take time. And who knows? Some groups just take longer to really reach their peak anyway.

Firstly, this is not Teddy’s formula. Another producer writes the lyrics for them. Secondly, these lyrics and sound are unsuccessful. Thirdly, the idols have almost the same voices, unlike Blackpink.

you're not doing the energy example right imo in the end, but i agree the jungle dancers were rly weird and that the music video was lackluster with that being said i still managed to get hooked on "MEOW" because the rhythm was still catchy, i like cats, and one of the girls actually captivated me enough (Sooin). I just don't like the overuse of that formula it feels so fake to get hooked on those songs!! like it lasts for a moment but then what? Their latest comeback, "TOXIC" is actually iconic and overshadowed.... Such a beautiful song with a beautiful theme. I think it's a bit too chill for a debut song maybe but i like that more than "MEOW" ... Maybe if MEOVV wanted to be a moreso dark romance group...

No, it isn’t. MEOVV has good vocalists. And they’re all very pretty. BM has even better vocalists. Also, very pretty girls. BP is extraordinarily successful because of all four girls. No one member puts them over the edge. They all have an “IT” factor that can’t be taught or created. It’s like catching lightning in a bottle.

I love meovv? I mean their debut wasn't the best, it was pretty solid but I was mind blown after watching their MAMA 2024 performance. They really performed like they've been in the industry for a long time. And I love how they aren't shy of showing their goofy side. The music has also improved, I loved Toxic. They will definitely go big one day, if they keep improving like this each comeback. It's only been 2 months and they have improved SOOO much, especially Ella.

Agree with the music video point, but the Meovv girls are unique and very talented. Just look at the response to their MAMA performance despite a small budget (what's with the smaller budgets, common Teddy), and only 2 months since debut with no predebut content/experience like BM. People just haven't given them a chance because of the bad MV and weak debut song.
If the Blacklabel doesn't have the budget to do a good debut and promotion they should've remained under YG or simply wait till the company has enough to cater for the group.
BP is a total package about being an idol. Vocally they might not gone in the strong path, but kpop was never about high notes alone, it’s about being able to dance, to sing stably, visual, charisma, stage performance, fashion, personality, etc. All 3 YG girl groups in my opinion has the same badassary but different in essence. 2NE1 has strong powerful energy, BP has the savageness portrays in the sophisticate, elegant and classy vibe while BM is young, hip, energetic. Teddy was only their producer, he is talented. BP vocal tones in combination is just perfect. Same song but if BP was the one to sing, it’ll totally change how it feels completely from the original. They have the ability to convey emotion and draw you in with their voice. I listened to BP’s AI versions of BM/Meovv song, and omg, even if the songs aren’t crafted for them, yet they still able to bring out that different aura and feel. That made me realize it was always the artists not the song. They’re just that good. BP both as a group and individually was able to established their brand image successfully ever since debut already. That’s why only them could ever play the card few songs. Meovv has potential, they’re still new. Comparing the big and experience YG with TBL is unnecessary cuz of course YG gonna be better. BM and Meovv have lots of rooms and time to improve and grow though. However, I dont think there will ever be a group like BP or BTS. They’re too special. They’re in their own league of category already. lol. Like them or not just look at the chart and you know, kpop has plethora of talented groups and artists, but it had always been either BP or BTS to grab attention, even if they’re on hiatus they’re still on top globally. They earn and own their place among the top already, i don’t think comparing any group to them is fair. And just like them, it’s pointless to compare YG and TBL. YG has the experience, manpower and big budget for many years in the industry. TBL is still new.
Honestly, Meovv is months old. I feel like this review is too early for conclusions. For every negative opinion about Meovv here was the public's opinion of Blackpink when they first debuted. I'm not saying it's a wrong opinion to have, but I don't think we get to the skip to the end and say everything with their promotions and songs and personas are wrong. BP started out weak, with only people who are curious about who the 2ne1 'replacements' were watching them at the time. During debut, all the BP girls had embodied the same exact personas the Meovv girls are embodying mainly bcs that is the YG style and Teddy is the original YG hit maker so it's inevitable for his group to be the same. Every single individuality of BP came out long after their debut, so why are we expecting Meovv to individually stand out at this point? Rosé's musicality didn't really ahine thru until their Netflix documentary, Lisa's rockstar persona didn't start until they started becoming more known in the Western music scene, Jennie is the one who mostly shined on her own with her fashion style and brand deals, while Jisoo wasn't really known for acting until she had to fight for her main character role in Snow Drop. Blackpink gets to have their individuality bcs they already earned it. The kpop industry is tough, I mean we're here giving Meovv a hard time for individuality when literally Ahyeon of Babymonster is getting hated on for standing out too much. I don't think there's a right and wrong opinion, but it's too early to judge them. Especially with since they're obviously so talented and their new releases are actually so good. Toxic is just a chef's kiss! I could cry with Narin and Gawon's vocals alone. In conclusion, let's wait and see what the girls have in store cz I think they'll turn out to be one of the top acts soon.
I agree that it's too early to give definitive judgments. However, I don't think at all that Blackpink started weakly, I lived that era and I remember well that they became super-popular from day one, with Boombayah and Whistle they immediately conquered the audience and from there it was a constant and unstoppable rise.

I think you have the right idea here. The artists are the ones who bring the song to life and make it work or not. That's why when I watch survival shows cover Blackpink songs, there's always something lacking and the impact of the song is lost. The first cover of a Blackpink song that really wowed me was Babymonster's cover of Don't know what to do and that's what made me a fan of BM. When I watch BM, I feel like all their members have some IT factor that makes them stand out. I haven't got the same feeling from anyone on Meovv yet so far, but I will still watch their development.

Here’s my opinion. Their debut song is a 6.8/10 for me. The song was okay but also not impressive. The term “yeah” was so repetitive and used OVER 81+ times! This song became a forgotten to me. Yes, AI BP version sounds better, but giving them this is OFFENSIVE 😭 I genuinely wanted to hear MORE. Unfortunately, not one member stood out to me in the rap or vocal line. Maybe this song couldn’t show case more of their talent? Anyway, they are just starting all of this so they have time to WOW us and maybe they’ll have something else in-store for the viewers :)
I may also agree that their MV production wasn’t captivating enough either. There’s a couple of issues but there’s room for improvement for some issues ❤

Looks like YG plays that differentiation rather than Teddy in Blackpink. Rose' has the benefit of Bruno Mars and herself as the director in production in both her videos. Simple set videos but so captivating. ClikClak was also quite simple in the video but the Black and white and the Baby Monster girls have so much star quality the video becomes so captivating.
I really felt that, out of all the girl k-pop groups, meovv members all all the same person, except the different lip one. The plastic surgeries also helps to the clone felling. I don't like it.

At the time when blackpink debuted this strong girlcrush concept was somewhat revolutionary, but now everyone knows that you could give yg songs to any of their girl groups and it would fit. They don't have their own unique identities, but fans still think it's just "yg style" (I think it's just laziness and lack of creativity).

While I agree with your opinion, I think we're all got so used with instant success that we're downplaying Meovv's achievement so far. It's totally normal for a new group to have no individuality yet. Take Newjeans for example, everyone said they not only sounds similar but also looks similar (at least Meovv girlies don't looks like twins), or even IVE where ppl already knew Wonyoung and Yujin and they called the other girls as "& friends", ppl also said aespa members were bland and nobody stands out. Tbh, I don't think anyone will replicate BP's success ever again. My ult GG is BP but there's no denying that BM has better vocals, yet they aren't as big. And its not just BP, the same goes for every group that found their own unique road to success. Even Big Hit couldn't replicate BTS' success with its new groups even though they are all very successful. Like YG also can't replicate Big Bang's success with its subsequent boy groups. New groups and their producers should try to go their own unique way instead of trying to replicate a group's success.
Also, being an idol is so different to being just a singer or dancer. They need to have this extra little something something, great aura on stage, and something that just makes you so interesting and alluring to other people.
One of the most important things is also the group dynamic and how cohesive they are together. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with just having a work relationship, but groups that have a close bond and feel family-like hit different, and fans can often see this too. However, this does take time. And who knows? Some groups just take longer to really reach their peak anyway.

No, it isn’t. MEOVV has good vocalists. And they’re all very pretty. BM has even better vocalists. Also, very pretty girls. BP is extraordinarily successful because of all four girls. No one member puts them over the edge. They all have an “IT” factor that can’t be taught or created. It’s like catching lightning in a bottle.

I love meovv? I mean their debut wasn't the best, it was pretty solid but I was mind blown after watching their MAMA 2024 performance. They really performed like they've been in the industry for a long time. And I love how they aren't shy of showing their goofy side. The music has also improved, I loved Toxic. They will definitely go big one day, if they keep improving like this each comeback. It's only been 2 months and they have improved SOOO much, especially Ella.

Agree with the music video point, but the Meovv girls are unique and very talented. Just look at the response to their MAMA performance despite a small budget (what's with the smaller budgets, common Teddy), and only 2 months since debut with no predebut content/experience like BM. People just haven't given them a chance because of the bad MV and weak debut song.
If the Blacklabel doesn't have the budget to do a good debut and promotion they should've remained under YG or simply wait till the company has enough to cater for the group.
BP is a total package about being an idol. Vocally they might not gone in the strong path, but kpop was never about high notes alone, it’s about being able to dance, to sing stably, visual, charisma, stage performance, fashion, personality, etc. All 3 YG girl groups in my opinion has the same badassary but different in essence. 2NE1 has strong powerful energy, BP has the savageness portrays in the sophisticate, elegant and classy vibe while BM is young, hip, energetic. Teddy was only their producer, he is talented. BP vocal tones in combination is just perfect. Same song but if BP was the one to sing, it’ll totally change how it feels completely from the original. They have the ability to convey emotion and draw you in with their voice. I listened to BP’s AI versions of BM/Meovv song, and omg, even if the songs aren’t crafted for them, yet they still able to bring out that different aura and feel. That made me realize it was always the artists not the song. They’re just that good. BP both as a group and individually was able to established their brand image successfully ever since debut already. That’s why only them could ever play the card few songs. Meovv has potential, they’re still new. Comparing the big and experience YG with TBL is unnecessary cuz of course YG gonna be better. BM and Meovv have lots of rooms and time to improve and grow though. However, I dont think there will ever be a group like BP or BTS. They’re too special. They’re in their own league of category already. lol. Like them or not just look at the chart and you know, kpop has plethora of talented groups and artists, but it had always been either BP or BTS to grab attention, even if they’re on hiatus they’re still on top globally. They earn and own their place among the top already, i don’t think comparing any group to them is fair. And just like them, it’s pointless to compare YG and TBL. YG has the experience, manpower and big budget for many years in the industry. TBL is still new.
Honestly, Meovv is months old. I feel like this review is too early for conclusions. For every negative opinion about Meovv here was the public's opinion of Blackpink when they first debuted. I'm not saying it's a wrong opinion to have, but I don't think we get to the skip to the end and say everything with their promotions and songs and personas are wrong. BP started out weak, with only people who are curious about who the 2ne1 'replacements' were watching them at the time. During debut, all the BP girls had embodied the same exact personas the Meovv girls are embodying mainly bcs that is the YG style and Teddy is the original YG hit maker so it's inevitable for his group to be the same. Every single individuality of BP came out long after their debut, so why are we expecting Meovv to individually stand out at this point? Rosé's musicality didn't really ahine thru until their Netflix documentary, Lisa's rockstar persona didn't start until they started becoming more known in the Western music scene, Jennie is the one who mostly shined on her own with her fashion style and brand deals, while Jisoo wasn't really known for acting until she had to fight for her main character role in Snow Drop. Blackpink gets to have their individuality bcs they already earned it. The kpop industry is tough, I mean we're here giving Meovv a hard time for individuality when literally Ahyeon of Babymonster is getting hated on for standing out too much. I don't think there's a right and wrong opinion, but it's too early to judge them. Especially with since they're obviously so talented and their new releases are actually so good. Toxic is just a chef's kiss! I could cry with Narin and Gawon's vocals alone. However, I don't think at all that Blackpink started weakly, I lived that era and I remember well that they became super-popular from day one, with Boombayah and Whistle they immediately conquered the audience and from there it was a constant and unstoppable rise.
