  • Writing an ending is possibly one of the hardest parts of finishing a story.
Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen! Today I'll be taking a look at The Outbound Ghost by Conradical Games and Digerati! This is a Paper Mario-style RPG with exploration, turn-based combat, and a heavy emphasis on story. The game itself feels quite fun with a very cute aesthetic, but sadly the writing itself struggles as it gets toward the end. The climax is very unsatisfying. Watch to the end of the video to see where this game fumbles.

Agree whole-heartedly with this review. Chapter 4 offered absolutely no resolution to the "mystery" of the serial killer. This could have been easily mitigated if they had bothered to MAKE THE KILLER A CENTRAL POINT OF THE STORY! By the end of the game I lost interest in who the killer was because the ascensions were much more impactful, and the revealed killer was the worst character in the game. Instead of the killer angle, they should have wrapped up with with why the protagonist felt the need to leave Outbound in the first place. That was a well written plot point that was pissed away when Chapter 4 decided to retread the entire game.

Absolutely agree! It did so much work building these mysteries just to leave you there hanging. It did nothing to answer you actual questions and didn’t work for the plot ending it gave you. I truly enjoyed the game before chapter 4. I would’ve even been okay if it had brought you back to the station. It almost feels like they should’ve just left a “to be continued” message and ended the game after chapter 3.

The ending was such a massive disappointment. As much as I enjoyed the battle system of this game I almost regret even using my holiday break from work for this game knowing I'm going back to not having any free time for the next few months. I could have been playing Live A Live instead.
The ending doesn't explain much and the boss quest at the end was an insult. I did a Google search to see if doing this BS boss rush added anything to the game and immediately popped out the cartridge

I just 100% this game an hour ago and I could not agree more with this review. Chapters 1-3 were really enjoyable but chapter 4 brought the whole experience down for me

It really does just tank the whole game, doesn't it? The game was at like an 87% on Steam when I bought it, but that score as tanked as people have begun to see what the ending is like.

Just finished this game and felt so cheated. It's such a beautiful game with so much potential but the story just completely falls apart into nonsense. It also crashed about a dozen times while I was playing it which was super frustrating. I've heard the PC version has fewer problems, so definitely would not recommend on PS4.

From what I've heard, console version of this video is unbelievably scuffed. I'm sorry you had to go through that man :( I make these videos to try and prevent people from having that happen to them.
