That mustache is even more impressive than the car.
This is why you never judge a book by its cover. If you seen this guy in the grocery store and happened to ask him what do you do in your spare time, the ABSOLUTE last thing you would expect him to say is, oh glad you asked, I'm the Lingenfelter of mazda miatas...... What!? Explain yourself immediately! Lol. Awesome.
312hp is completely perfect for a Miata. That must feel amazing on backroads. Dream build here.
Your knowledge for this stuff is incredible. Such an epic Miata.
Whoa. I meet this guy at Mike's Place many years ago. Gave him a ride in my STi. Nice guy and super knowledgeable.
+signingupisretarded Ya we knew Tom for a while and met him at Mike's Place too. He definitely knows his stuff. Thanks for watching!
Tom at Fast Forward, the Ruler of the Super Charged Miatas, has domesticated the Big Horse Power Miata. She drives like a Butterfly and stings like a Bee.The Banshee wail of the Supercharger will set your soul on Fire. We will all need one of these to sling at the showdown in the Miata Corral. Great video, Peter, Well Done.
Mike MiataKing Coming from you Mike, that means a lot!!! Thanks a lot!!!
MX5 Unleashed yeah but what did you do about the stupid glass transmission. I'm watching at 2 am so calm down everyone I can't bring volume up if he explained.
What a well put together miata wow!!
Sure does! Thanks for being so supportive!
Going to be starting amiata build in the next few months. When its time to force induce, fast forward will be my first stop.
Spoke to Tom today about the FFS, great guy, very knowledgable. I'll be getting mine soon. :)
Great video. Thank you. I have to imagine that most people don't think that the FFS plate stands for Fast Forward Superchargers. "I've been walked by a Miata?! Oh, FFS!"
Tom, youre the man. I still live mine.
how much horsepower does his miata make?........300 diabetus to the crank
Willie Nelson At 18psi it dynoed 312hp. At 21psi, we estimated 340ish.
We're endurance road racing (WRL) the '91 "transplant" Miata that Tom mentions in the beginning with the 1.6 Fast Forward Supercharger setup. The other Miata Drivers are always "curious" after a few laps when we go by with relative ease. The BMW Drivers are just "confused"!
I didn't know Wilford Brimley was such a big car guy...
Wilford is more into horses than cars but hirsepower is horsepower. :-)
this man is a hero to all 1.6 miata owners!!!
Such a cool car, subscribed
Didnt hear anything, too distracted by moustache
Great car, and it's nice to see how you thought everything trough. Also, it's funny you still look Dutch, even though it may just be the family history you share.
+Aaron Versteeg Twee dagen geleden was ik op zoek naar deze video, en kon hem niet meer vinden. Door jouw reactie heb ik de video weer heb gevonden, thanks! Grappig hoe dingen soms samen komen :)
thx a lot for this video. there arent too many supercharge miata videos around. im currently going either turbo super or NA route. but it boils down to affordancy to a degree. Quite inconclusive. I'd sure rather try all of them first haha.
very nice car btw. I have a (still) stock 03/90 miata.
well from our experience it's what you will use the car for. Autocross or Time Attack, 100% hands down Supercharger, the instant power is awesome. If it's just a fun car turbo will do it. If you go with NA power with ITBs and some work on the engine you could get to 170hp but it will cost a lot.
OK I'm sold, I've been thinking about this kit for a while. I bought my 94 M Edition with a jrsc m45 kit already installed and did bunch of upgrades and while it is fun I'm dying for a more substantial increase in power with a blower that can handle it. The little m45 is punchy and fun but I need more lol time to sell mine and get one of these kits!
dat supercharged mustache thou
im also in az! id love to come check out the shop one of these days
RifleMenofAZ11 Most of the mechanical work was done at Mike's Place 85003 zip
He strikes me as a dodge diesel with a brush gaurd and running boards kind of guy. But no, he like miatas. Pretty friggin sweet.
1990 4x4 Miata... but impressive setup.
Holy! Really? I'm going to look into that thanks! @mx5!
+Chris Flippo Well that engine was havely modified to handle that kind of power, but if you do PNP kit i think you you will be around 180hp on a stock motor.
Good heavens that's a magnificent mustache.
I realy, realy, want this car.
+dizzy rider it's for sale, just go to the www.fastforwardsuperchargers.com/ and contact them
How’s it run like stock “off boost” when it’s a supercharger? I thought the whole point of a supercharger was that it’s always in boost vs a turbo where you have to get the exhaust flowing fast enough to spool the turbo so there’s nothing at low rpm
That intake tube looks like an after thought run to a hardware store.
@3:53 anyone need a roll of electrical tape?
nicceee
where can I buy a mustache like that? I bet the mustache runs like 30psi.
When they showed the clip of him driving, it sounded like a car from the Jetsons lol
I expect there are pilots involved with at least the instrumentation. CHT/EGT/OT speaking my language now!
I'm really curious on where the alternator went. It looked like it was moved.
Alternator is still in the same place. Alternator, power steering and AC all stay right where they were.
What fascinates me the most is that it's able to run ethanol & regular fuel, I'd like more details on this kit or how it all works, please & thank you
SpeakerVibe you can find a lot of info here, also they have a contact page and they are always fast to answer questions www.fastforwardsuperchargers.com/miata-supercharger-kit.html
FFS means something else to me haha
Everything seems good except for the home depot like intake tube, an aluminum oval piece would cost more to make, but look more professional.
probably got too hot being its right on the engine, so im guessing the black tube insulates better
@@christopherrogers8316 I figure one could wrap it in something very cheaply to alleviate that.
Wow.....mir sans nee FX mazda /germany yesterday BMW ! 7er...
Diabeatus
18lbs of boost and no intercooler? im shook
how much for a kit for a 04 miata 1.8vvt
Would love an FFS kit but the air intake over the valve cover kills it imo
Great Miata but would not part with mine. Classic red 1.6 1991 Eunos Import. Love it.
tire side wall is huge, any reason?
+Mind Synthetic it's a daily driver so that makes it a more comfortable ride
What else would I need for installation of the standard kit? I have a 92 1.6L miata
If you wanna build a fast Miata I feel like this is the guy you wanna ask
I guess John Bolton needed a new career
I want to do something with my Miata that nobody else has done. Ik it sounds dumb but I want power without swapping or modding induction, I want to try something different but I’m pretty sure from 1994 to this day, everything has been done...
Could go with electric torque fill motors. I've seen them placed around driveshafts. The PPF would be good attachment point.
Tom please we need more kits 😢
How would you fit an aftercooler to such a setup for petrol use? (my country doesn't have mass E85 availability, but I want to have pretty high boost)
You can't. The kit is designed to run without an intercooler. For 300hp intercooled, you would have to run a turbo.
I heard the 1.6 engine is better for boosting. I have a 1998 JDM spec 1.6 I'd like to upgrade in the future, will it make and be able to handle as much power as a 1.8?
The 1.6 is a lot of fun with a supercharger because it fills in all that missing low RPM torque. However, you will make more power with the 1.8.
Nope. Both are let down by rods as they are the same. Go for the 1.8 and if you're up to the challenge the 1.8 vvt.
The 1.8 is more robust in everything cept the rods they share stock to stock
Artoast just get a 1.8 and manley rods both rods suck for 1.6 and 1.8 but the 1.8 will have more torque out of boost and more top end power. dont get a 1.6. also dont get an nb unless youre up for some more complicated work.
How does this kit affect the weight balance of the chassis?
It is basically the same. We remove about 40 pounds and add about 58 pounds for a net increase of only about 18 pounds. Mostly to the passenger side.
Are these still available?
Is there a reason your running on the stock ecu instead of a megasquirt or different boost controller
Good question, He did that so the whole it is PNP and not need for tuning, so while not in boost car runs on factory ECU and performs great, then in Boost the Cards take over for timing and Air Fuel mixture control. For more info you can Call or email Fast Forward Superchargers on their site. Hope that helps.
Like how they did this setup, i'm just wondering why no intercooler? you could run more boost on both gas and E85 without any adverse effects.
StefanSLR I'm guessing with the cold-side S/C they don't need it so much. It would help if they ran the plumbing along the r/h side beside the compressor but that requires a bit of custom fabricating for relocating the coolant overflow and FPR. It also looks a little odd having that piping draped over the engine like it is. Still a solid looking build
+unclerusty2 - Yep, because the blower (on this setup) is integral with the intake manifold. You CAN put an intercooler, but it would need to be something like on the LS-7 motors used on Camaros; inside the intake manifold.
The head is been flowed
You have a kit for 2.0 NC? Looking for 205WHP maybe 195trqu and I'd want AC and PS thanks
Turbo or N/A.
What brand of EGT gauges are those - I've looked and not been able to find them.
RedCoat232 They are Westach. I got them here: www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecId=65&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpMyQovKe2AIVjfhkCh0PVwmEEAQYAyABEgJMJ_D_BwE
Work great.
Tom
sold.
Stock ecu no map sensor and no intercooler ???
Correct, the 5th injector provides cooling and enrichment during boost and you have 3 cards controlling timing, AFR, and 5th injector. Simple and CARB listed. Check out their website for more ;)
would this kit be carb legal
yes it is carb legal. here are some FAQs www.fastforwardsuperchargers.com/supercharger-FAQ.html
Miata be like AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Supercharge my 2007?
What E85 kit was installed in this car? Or was it all just separate thing thrown together?
The Fast Forward Supercharger guys say "No
E85 kit. All we did was change to larger injectors, raise the fuel
pressure and install a larger fuel pump. All of the fuel lines supplied
with the kit are already E85 compatible."
MX5 Unleashed ok cool. I was just wondering what was used in the center console to adjust the fuel.
so It adjusted the MAF signal for the larger injectors. That
is long gone. Wasn’t needed. You either run E85 or you change pulleys
and run gasoline. You can’t have 330hp pulleys on the car and drive up
to the pump and fill with gasoline and drive away. The engine will
knock. So tune for the pulleys and leave it
what about water/meth injection ? could i make that work with a flex fuel and basically do both?
What has been done to the transmission?
+xr500t Nothing. It is a stock 1999 Miata transmission. Diff is the 3.636 gears.
I'm gonna guess the year of that Miata
1990
is it the stock gearbox? i've heard that the stock gearbox can't handle more than 250hp for a long time
el victo Yes. Stock 1999 Miata 5 speed connected to a stock 3.636 Torsen diff. So far, so good.
Thomas Van Dan Elzen ok thank you, but no problem about reliability of the gearbox will happen?
el victo It obviously will not last as long as on a stock hp engine. Dedicated Dragstrip use will shorten the life more than dedicated track use.
Does supercharging a car make its mpg worse?
Nick Villecco that is a good question, if you drive with gas mileage in mind, which is very gently, you highway mpg should actually be better. BUT people that get their car boosted usually drive way harder because it's fun, which makes you gas mileage way worse.
Do you busy offer or sell different psi pulleys?
Curtis kubow the FFS have different size pulleys if you needed, just contact them on their website FastForwardSuperchargers.com
can any of your kit work for my 4age 16v red top?
+Dunzhi Jialuo We will ask the owner but we assume that you would need a custom intake and bracket for tensioner. You can contact the designer at "fast forward superchargers" website
+Dunzhi Jialuo OK the Designer said you if you interested in building your own intake, he can sell you the palaces of the kit that you would need to hook up to the Toyota engine. Feel free to call them or E-mail them. They are very knowledgeable and will tell you what you need to fit it onto your engine. Hope this helps.
How were you able to do a boosted, larger injectors, flex-fuel Miata on a stock ECU? Incredible build by the way!
Ethanol takes about 20% more liquid. The injectors are about 20& larger than stock. ECU thinks it is running stock injectors on gasoline. We make up most of the extra needed fuel with the extra injector. It does double duty as it cools the charge air at the same time.
@@thomasvandanelzen2521 Got ya, and I assume that the injectors (although bigger than stock) are still small enough so that when you run 93 the ECU can still compensate for the larger injectors...? How were you able to add boost? Does the stock ECU just see it as a great amount of air through a MAF and then compensate accordingly with more fuel? Thanks so much!!!
It doesn't compensate well with gasoline and larger injectors. Once you switch to E85, you need to stay there. especially if you run a larger pulley as gasoline does not cool the charge air as well as alcohol. You would also have to switch back to a smaller pulley. You add boost by running a larger pulley ratio. Yes. Correct. The MAF sees a larger mass of air and adds a corresponding larger mass of fuel. That is why you need larger injectors for ethanol as ethanol has a smaller mass per unit volume than gasoline.
@@thomasvandanelzen2521 Thank you for the excellent explanation and amazing build!
Looks totally oem with a dryer vent laying across the valve cover
If he used an E85 sensor with a megasquirt he wouldn't have to have that knob for fuel
Oh, of course, he just wanted to show that people can do this on a stock ECU, just as a proof of concept since not everyone knows how to tune ;)
anyone know price of the car?
Kevin Carr you can contact the owner at Fast Forward Superchargers Website.
pnp kit? how much are those..
+Chris Flippo please visit Fast Forward Superchargers website for options and pricing. And you can ask any questions there too. Hope that helps
What kind of fmu is that??
+Ridge Maignan It is this one. www.summitracing.com/parts/aei-13109 We used that one because it is specifically alcohol compatible and we run E85.
The blurry fades/edits are annoying as hell. Nice build though.
would love your kit but its 4000
jason hernandez plug and play stuff is gonna cost ya. im building an m90 supercharger kit for the miata 1.6l but im putting the engine in my ford festiva. fwd though. its always cheaper to diy but takes skills and parts
Cool good luck. I have a 1999 Miata with a turbo, more power and cheaper. I think the main reason this system is so much bc its carb approved.
jason hernandez im doing a supercharger first. just so i can build a beautiful header for the setup. i plan it being rear turbo'd if thats not enough. turbo charger, supercharged. itd be like a 3l worth of torque, with a turbo on top of it all. im trying to figure out if i want to keep the 4 rib belt crank pulley. or upgrade it.
I don't think this engine would be able to handle that much power. But theres only one way to find out I guess.
jason hernandez you know the biggest downfall to positive displacement superchargers...heating. where 15psi from a turbo is typical of doubling stock power numbers. 15psi from a roots blower may only net you 75 percent power gain. the supercharger is in place as an exhaust gas increaser, for quicker turbo spools
that way a bigger than normal turbo can be ran with less lag.
how are you getting 18psi out of that blower?
camyota We got 18 psi with 130mm crank pulley and 65mm supercharger pulley. When we put the 140mm crank pulley on with the 65mm supercharger pulley, we got 21psi and about 340bhp.
dang!! impressive. pardon my French but y'all are revving the piss out of it ain't ya!? reason I ask is the kit I have on my Tacoma uses the same MP-62 blower and right now I'm using a 60mm pulley on it and not sure what the crank pulley is but I'm getting right at 10psi. I was told the smaller pulley they offer(I think 56) was pushing it for over revving this blower and that would only put me at around 12 ish psi...
Actually, at 130/65, I am only spinning the blower 14,000 rpm at 7,000 rpm engine speed. Magnuson life tests at 16,000 rpm. I know several people who have spun the MP62 at 20,000 reliably. Keep in mind that boost is simply the result of the engine to flow the air. My engine is only 1.8L. We ran the MP62 on the 4.0L Jeep six cylinder and spun it a lot faster to get to 10 psi. What is the displacement of your engine. Keep in mind also that supercharger pulleys smaller than 65mm don't have a lot of belt wrap anymore. Measure the face of your crank pulley to get the blower speed.
that makes sense. mine is a 2.7L with a rev limit at 5600rpm. I'm thinking about getting a custom crank pulley made to increase boost because I already get a little belt slip sometimes. I'll have to measure the pulley when I get home to see. hopefully I can get a few more psi out of it before I overrev it.
keep in mind that if you increase the diameter of the crank pulley, you will also spin the AC, PS, Alternator and water pump faster. Don't get too carried away with that size,
Knock is also poor timing, not just cylinder temp.
how much will all of this cost
+Vadim Yeremin their Kits are on the website www.fastforwardsuperchargers.com/ but if you want to find out how much was their setup, shoot them an email, also I think that car is for sale too ;)
supercharge a turbo charged miata. that would be cool.
Good video except blurred edits are annoying.
300hp yeah right !!
***** yes that was my bad i meant they usually don't make it past 250 crank, or estimated crank. generally turbo are better at making horse power and superchargers are better in delivery so a super charger thats making high hp and good delivery is going to make people skeptical
Stock ECU?!
Yup, they just using those 3 piggyback cards to control car in boost . Check them out on their website www.fastforwardsuperchargers.com/products.html#ele
where can i get one of these superchargers?
***** Yeah, not so well for you. That miata is 100x lighter than your mustang. It would blow it out of the water.
***** a v6 Mustang doesn't make 300whp lol. Silly Mustang owner...most Miata's would beat your v6 mustang stock...forget tripling the horses.
Gimmie one and a turbo I’m gonna twin charge it
Not happening in california....pretty sure
All that time in engineering and you've got a $6 Flex intake pipe..... really guys ?
I want a bolt-on mustache.
funniest thing ive read all day
I AM DEAD 😂👍
Haha 😝 😂
