Well the advantage of any of the more expensive tablet is more resolution which shouldn’t impact osu! anyways.
@@erenjaeger8624 Not necessarily. Most drawing software from what I remember, has there own settings for smoothing and such; so ot isn't really necessary to have hardware smoothing implemented. Even then, I'm sure there's people who work on tablet drivers for drawing, like those for osu.

As a 420 user, I predicted that this entire video was gonna be “this is still better than the 420.” And I was correct and that made laugh so hard because I know it’s pretty bad. So know I have a dream. A dream to become a 2 digit or even number 1 with my 420 just for the memes. I’ll see you all in 3 years or so.

i used to have H420 like 2 years ago, it was so bad... then i just got ctl 472 3 months ago and it increased me alot.

Ahh i had the h420 too some years ago.
I gotta say, the main problem about it is the pen, it's just so bad, also the thickness.
I switched to a CTL-480 then to a xppen star g640 (rev-b) cause i sold my 480 cause
i quitted for a while.
But yeah, it's usable.
Literally just what I needed. Been thinking about trying standard more often.

I use XP-Pen G640 and I really like it. I recomend it a lot.
Someone else in the comments said that they released a revision B for that model that adds a bunch of hardware smoothing. I dunno when that was though, I bought mine last year in October.
i use a g430s, gotta say it's very good and very cheap.

I use that xp pen tablet with opentabletdriver instead of the stock ones. Support was just added recently and the reduction in delay/smoothing was pretty noticeable.
these few couple of streams were so entertaining, and i was so excited because my cth was shipping in while watching you praise it a lot
I’m starting to get into osu! Now as a digital artist and I already have the Huion 610pro. It’s a lot larger than most tablets people use for osu! But it’s been working pretty well
I actually have been using the XP-Pen G430S for a few months and have never had a problem but recently, it just stopped working and I contacted them and I've literally never had better customer service. Within a week, I got issued a replacement and everything got sorted. I now respect xp-pen so much more for that so maybe customer service should be added on too??

Im currently using a H420, as I got it for free by someone. I've been using this tablet since I started and haven't really noticed until now how bad the smoothening is when i started playing mid 6*. Very glad that I have a CTH 480 on the way.

Ive been using the ctl-472, for the past hour I've experienced it it's been amazing and I love it, now I see how y'all do 467 spm, 467 is my best spm and my avg is around 250-380, anyways keep up the good work

I've been using the VEIKK S640 for quite some time now for both drawing and osu!, and I can safely say that it is an amazing tablet for both. It feels great to draw with (especially because of the great pressure sensitivity it has) and also it's amazing to play osu! with (it's great for dragging since it's surface is smooth af). I felt quite bad when you said that "these low budget tablets are only for osu! and nothing else" (something along those lines), which is absolutely not true (for the VEIKK at least, I have no experience with the other ones).
if you could still reply after 1 year. How do you download both drivers(opentabletdriver and veikk driver) without having problems with it like mine who kepts flickering whenever I use opentablet even when I closed one of the drivers like veikk?

Well, I don't use this tablet anymore (nor play osu!) but at the time I just downloaded the official Veikk drivers from their site and the osu! drivers from github, I only let the latter start with windows, the Veikk drivers were always off by default, I only opened it when I was going to draw.
I'm not sure if that's the solution, but try disabling one of them at the windows startup, I'm sorry if this isn't helpful but I just never had any problems with them so idk.

I had the xp-pen G640 model B and switching from that to the Wacom CTL-472 feels amazing. It's like a whole other experience (would recommend the 472)

i have the Veikk S640(used that before i got my hands on a ctl480) and its actually not that bad as youre making it out to be. i made a simple test setup(using raspberry pi) that tested the latency from movement of pen-cursor movement ingame, which turned out to swing around 2.4 to 2.9 ms.(like a sinewave,very consistent so im sure its something the tablet does, not the test setup) 2.4ms really is not that noticable, so the S640 is enough for the average osu! player.
Edit: what i forgot to mention is that while YES, the pen is indeed shit,you dont really mind that if you have big hands, and the guy i gave it to said that he got used to it pretty quickly.
btw if youre wondering the CTL 480 has 0.7ms, ~0.3 of which are due to me being a dumbass and not doing the test properly(too lazy to do it again)

Pro tip for the 472:
- The pen with badminton grip is just perfect, weight, grip and thickness at it's peak
Or you could be like me and put electric tape around it and then a hair tie i dont like thick ass pens so if you dont either but you hand keeps slipping from your pen 9 times out of 10 you can just make a grip out of house hold items
I just use a rubber O-ring.

I use the Star G430S because my CTH-480 is a little too big and the active area is too thick for me personally. I actually really like how lightweight the pen is (despite how cheap feeling it is) and the fact that this was the cheapest batteryless pen tablet combo I could find. I got my set for just over $20 on sale from amazon and it's thin enough for me to close between my laptop screen and the palmrest (with the thick part sticking out). I only use it for osu! and I do agree with the assessment that these are only good for osu and little else (except maybe the Veikk as I used to use one of those before I got my wacom). I am only a 5 digit though and I wonder if I'll ever become limited by my hardware. I don't think it'll happen but who knows. Great content as always!
This video was actually better than I thought it would be. I don't know if this has changed but personally my G430S seems to have the exact same feel as my 480 and 472 (all with hawku drivers) so idk what the issue was on your end (maybe they also changed the tablet like the G640). All in all though pretty solid video and I hope less and less people consider buying the Huion420 lol

Yea I used to use a H420, the only thing for me is that after a year of using it the battery compartment began to just fall out from the pen at times and disconnect it.
Just from personal experience (and i just tested it) if you use the H420 remember to connect it to a USB 2.0 port if possible, its report rate becomes higher and it feels more responsive (maybe because it has less hardware smoothing?).
I bought one 3 days ago and it literally stopped working all of a sudden, don't reccomend it at all

My CTL-472 arrived yesterday, i'm glad to know that is one of the best
I had the g640 s for a while and it had quite a lot of smoothing. I got used to it but I eventually switched to the Wacom Intuos (it was a gift so no choice there). idk if the intuos is supposed to be any good but only thing I can say is the lack of smoothing was a REALLY weird change. Also, the pen has a better grip but that might just be me.
I feel sad for the 420 everyone just hates on it I think its fine even tho I only bought it cuz it was the cheapest I could find on Amazon+
yep, the CTL472 is at least equal to 480 in terms of hardware and you can adjust surface/weight/grip etc easily and it's not that expensive compared to 480 that can cost more/be less available
472 is the perfect tablet
It's not the perfect tablet because some tablets are bigger and some people want bigger areas.

@@MichaelEhrmantraut12 so coming from someone who used a 490 before which is the same size in comparison to the 480, the 472 area size is actually identical to the 490, the only reason why the 472 looks smaller is because it has no button which osu players don’t need. Same area size, just no button
@@blackcatooow they’re pretty similar, the 4100 is supposed to be a “remodeled 480” but the 472 has basically the same input lag as the 480.

I just got the Gaomon S620 and it feels high quality for the price, I got use to it in less than a week, love it. I'm planning to get the new Wacom and a 144hz monitor in the next year

I have been using the 480 since the end of 2013 I think, and it still works like a charm. It's so worn out I feel sad for the damn thing lol I might get the 472 and see if it's in bar with the 480

i've got the xp-pen g640S and it isn't compitable with the Hawku drivers, which is something i've just brushed off. but now i'm starting to think i could have a much better experience if i get something that is actually compitable. i think i'll try the 472.

I've waited almost 2 years for this video. . . It was so stressful hunting down a 480 for a decent price, I dunno. I have a weird mind were I only want to best when it comes to gaming relate issues, I have a hard time trying to make up my mind when it comes to these things, But I'm glad that this video is finally out there for people who might be in the same boat I was almost 2 years ago
For the xp-pen G430s the hawku anti smoothing settings make it nearly unnoticeable
I started using the XP Pen G430s when i was 6-digit and now im 50k. Since ive never used any other tablet the smoothing and stuff has never even been noticeable for me.

That's true, I used veikk s640 for 2 years and it felt okay because maybe I got use to the smoothing but then i recently bought ctl 471 and it literally feels faster
i am also using the H420 currently and i really want to get the wacom 472 because i feel like the h20 is hindering me from completing faster beat maps tbh

I use a ctl-490 and the pen for the Wacom one is very similar and probably slips out a lot as my 490 pen doesn’t have any grip

I had been using whatever I was able to get my hands on for a while (wacom intuous) and it wasn't bad, but I just got a gaomon s620, and it's so much better. the hover height is much higher, I hated the wacom pen so much it was too small, and the surface is smoother so it's easier to play with.

I've literally had all these tablets except the XP Pen G430S and the Wacom 472, Veikk s640 actually served me quite well but I may switch back to my Gaomon S620 for a better experience.

I’ve been playing osu for only about 2 weeks, I absolutely love it and I was wondering if it’s better to switch to a tablet now or to gain more experience with a mouse and than switch, can anyone give advice plz?
If you think you will be still interested for a while, I would definitely recommend switching to a tablet. I recently recommended to one of my friends who was new to osu to get a tablet and he loves it. It takes a day or 2 to get used to it, but within that time you will already be at your mouse skill level, and improving much faster
You will improve faster with tablet, however, I wouldnt recommend switching before you can pass 4 star maps with mouse and keyboard. I bought my tablet when I was at 3 stars and it was too early. I realized that I didnt need the tablet yet, it was tapping that I sucked at. Play for maybe one month more and if you will want to continue playing, you should buy a tablet.

So I used to use the XP-PEN and I DO NOT recommend getting one, lots of issues, and mine broke 1 month in.

@@spacelow4509 for me it is, i climbed 110k globally same day i bought it but the played less due to exams. SrChispa is rank 27 globally and he uses the same tablet. so there’s nothing with it

I've been using the huion 420 it's ok to me the problem is smoothness is rough especially when I typically put it down with and I have problems trying to get it work with the drivers.
I can vouch for the G640, been using it for quite some time now and its really good for the price, also if i remember correctly the xp-pen tablets have higher refreshrates than most tablets. But get the G640 not the g430 since that one works really well witht the haku drivers.

I used to use the huion 1060Plus because that is what I got more for game dev work. Now I have started using an iPad with the apple pencil and the Easycanvas app. It lacks the ability to hover the pen like a normal graphics tablet so I can't see where I am aiming until I put the pen on the screen but otherwise the latency is the same as a normal tablet when I am looking at my normal monitor not the iPad screen and it works really nicely.
Do u recommend the trackpad that comes built into ur laptop for osu

osu! Tablets in my opinion:
1st:
CTH/CTL 480, CTH 680, CTL 472 and CTL 672
2nd:
XP PEN G640 (REV A) and Gaomon S620
I listed those tablets placed at first due to having no hardware smoothing and having really low latency.
Edit: The CTH 680 and CTL 672 are just larger variants of their smaller counterparts.
i have the tiny wacom with the red back, i am having trouble with it since someone i let borrow, broke it a little. they dented the tablet surface so when you draw it has a bump in the line, the cable where it attatches to the tablet is bad too, they must have broken it because i have to hold the cord for it to work - still usable for some things, also its very slow on osu though i am certain that is just a settings thing and can be an easy fix. i was wondering which tablet was best and if the huion kamvas 22 studio can play osu? idk yet

I had the h420 and my battery case inside got corroded after not playing osu for a year or two. It doesnt work anymore and got the h430p which feels pretty good and doesnt need a battery ! PS I bought it because I wanted to play osu again after finding your channel a couple months ago and found my dead pen haha
I use the G430S and it’s a good tablet for Osu if you don’t have a lot of money to spend
I personally dont use a tablet and my friend does. Hes got the edge on the spinners but I got him on the accuracy.

are you talking aim accuracy or in-game accuracy like 300s 100s etc cause using a tablet doesn’t immediately directly improve your accuracy. I think your just better at the game than your friend lol

Just switched from the xp pen to the Wacom one. While using the xp pen I used a very very small play area, and used the normal pen tablet drivers. Will be switching to the hawku drivers and I was wondering what play area other people use?
i have the gaomon s620 and its pretty good. the only thing is is that I recommend using hawku drivers bc my pen would start lagging after a while and it stopped with hawku.

I am using a CTL-470 bought in 2013 but never used a lot till 2020 when I started playing osu. I am not a pro, but it feel pretty nice!

Koi, you CAN actually reduce the Hardware Smoothing with the Hawku drivers, using the "Anti-smoothing filter", it's not perfect but it actually helps reduce the latency by a significant amount.
i tried that when i had a g640s it caused my cursor to skip and teleport. maybe it works better on other ones did not try, i have a 472 now (:
@@aladdad1 the settings matter a lot for the anti smoothing filter, you might need to fine tune them.
The G640 doesn't have that much smoothing anyways, unless you're using the Revision B.
Edit: i just saw that you said 640S, which does have more smoothing than the 640

I played with the XP-Pen G430S for an entire summer. It was the best experience I ever had with Osu and also the only time I ever played a tablet.
does the 472's surface wear over time? if so, what tablet cover feels most similar to its surface?
ive had the gaomon S620 ever since i started doing digital art so i just started using it for osu and have been fine ever since
i use the 472 its great but i have added smoothing using hawku because i play using a ridiculously small area of 23mm which cause it to shake soo much that its unplayable. back when i had an xp pen g640s v1using that small area did not cause my my cursor to shake. so its something to keep in mind if someone wants to get the 472 but uses a really small area.
i have both wacom ctl 480 and 471 and recently bought the ctl 472 and literally find no difference no delay and etc specially if you use the hawku driver so its a good 480/471 alternative if you are finding one

I've got the Gaomon s620 and honestly for drawing and osu it's a wonderful tablet for the price. It has a higher report rate than the 480, which is nice, but only makes a big difference on paper. As far as drawing goes, I don't like the surface of the s620, but it has way more pressure levels, so if you're someone who uses different line thicknesses frequently, it would be better for drawing unless you need the ability to turn of smoothing for your art.

if you're using gaomon, xp-pen or huion you can try out "anti-smoothing filter". If you install infinityghost's fork of hawku drivers (he made it more cusmomiable) you can either choose a preset or figure best values for you on your own. I got ctl-480, but previously i was using xp-pen g640 (old one) and with this filter on I feel only minimal latency compared to ctl480.
also you didnt mention hover distance of those tablets. Compared to ctl480, g640's hover distance is more than 2 times smaller so its very hard to not play drag with this tablet
