    One also has to match the equipment correctly. You don’t need a computer anymore except for processing. An AsiAir is dirt cheap for all the things it does (image sequencing, color wheel control, focus control, guiding, plate solving, polar aligning. remote control from smart tablet or phone etc) and it is EASY to use.

      Because most people already have an asi air for 350€ and not a PC which they could already use

Now days I’m with a small refractor 72ED on the sky adventurer and it works great with guiding! Perhaps heavy on term of the capacity of the mount but it works great at this stage...Once I get more experience I will get a more serious mount like the HEQ5

    Great work Tim, I've just invested in an EQ6R Pro mount and mounted a C5 to start my astrophotography journey. I'm interested in planetary and deep sky, can you suggest some basic imaging options?

    • @AstroAddict
      @AstroAddict  3 роки тому +1

      Deep Sky and planetary are very different from another. Your scope is better for planetary, since the focal length is quite big. Planets need veery long focal lengths, deep sky does not. Most of the usual deep space targets will be too big for this telescope. But even the planets will be small, try to connect a 2x or 3x barlow and a camera that can shoot very fast exposures. If you want more information, check out the page from Cory Schmitz

    Dear Tim, you have a great channel keep up the good work ! I have one question, if i'm using autoguiding do i have to perfectly polar align ? Is it enough just rough align ? Thanks !

    • @AstroAddict
      @AstroAddict  4 роки тому

      The purpose of AutoGuiding is to correct errors like wrong polar alignment. But if your polar alignment is 'only' rough, the graph will be jumpy as hell. Make the best out of the two, use a precise polar alignment and AutoGuiding, and the result will be great!

    What you have shown here is almost what I am planning to buy for my first "starter" set up with a small difference in that I am looking at 100 & 120s so that I can also use them for visual as well as imaging. Why did you chose the color version of the Altair camera in the guidescope when the mono version is probably more precise and is cheaper?

    Autoguiding is not really the only way to go. I guide manually and it works great. Exposures up to 9 minutes with a focal length of 600mm and get pin point sharp stars. The only disadvantage is that you have to be so concentrated that the mosquitos can eat you alive while you can't move!

    Nice video, what about a sky guider pro as a start up or an ASI air to replace the laptop on field for a beginner on a budget to be abĺe to shoot long exposures without star trail.Any suggestions 😊. Thank you for the video. Man, you have some brilliant and beautiful images. I am jelly. If possible can we please have the settings beside your images for a future video. The settings really help us noobs. Would it also be possible to have like an in depth video, like a masterclass on how you captured paleadis from start to finish, with post processing? I jumped head first into deep sky after doing tracked shots with a cheap single axis motorized mount. (Two axis but only the RA axis had a motor.) And un tracked tripod shots. Now I have the 10"f/3.9 Orion astrograph and the Orion HDX 110, which is a low end observatory class mount with 110 lb. Capacity. This is a drastic jump from beginner level to high intermediate level astrophotography, but I feel I'm ready after tons of research. Please give me your advice on power options. The mount only comes with a cigarette lighter male plug and im undecided which power pack to use. I noticed low end units and high end units for power but not much in between.

      Also I live in the states and I'm looking for a domestic website with a calculator to figure out what CMOS or CCD camera is best for 1000mm f/3.9 . I will be starting with my Canon 800D though. Need info on the proper coma corrector also. Been looking at Baader mark 3 but its at least 300.00 US.

    • @AstroAddict
      @AstroAddict  3 роки тому

      That's indeed a very big leap. With a mount that heavy, i doubt that you will take it out under dark skies on a regular basis, so why buy a power pack? I just bought a 12v 5a power supply with different adapters, and one of them was a fit, done. And i would guess that the website you are looking for is this: www.bintel.com.au/tools/astronomy-calculator/?v=322b26af01d5

    Super Video! Kurzweilig und informativ. Hast du eine Liste der hier vorgestellten Geräte? Oder habe ich was übersehen? Ich überlege mir einen kleinen APO zuzulegen, da hilft das Video sehr. Besonderen Fokus habe ich auf Autoguiding. Habe eine HEQ5-Pro und 6d mit 135mm Samyang und will das jetzt eben um den APO erweitern. Da komme ich wohl langsam nicht mehr um ein Autoguiding rum. Bis jetzt lief es aber gut (Polemaster und die Nachführung der Montierung haben bei der Kamera mit dem Objektiv gute Dienste geleistet)

    Hi Tim. I really enjoy following you on your astrophotography journey. Would you have any tips on gear maintenance? In particular, those rare occasions when a person needs or feels the need to clean the front lens of the telescope. Some of the things I see on the internet as the 'proper way to clean' look quite scary. I know that it is something that should not be done frequently and in most cases a few little specs etc on the lens will not be noticeable. Thanks. Keep up the great work.

    • @AstroAddict
      @AstroAddict  3 роки тому

      I never made 'proper' cleaning attempts. I just use a mircofiber cloth, the same one i use for my glasses. If you do that long enough, the lens will be clean agian. If you want to use air pressure beforehand, be careful with compressed air cans. Most of these have an active component, which can seep into the frame of the lens holder. I usually do that with a simple squeeze air pump. And don't use those cheap cleaning kits from the internet. Some of these brushes are greasy - out of the box...

      CORZONEX I would contact Celestron and ask about their StarSense camera and polar alignment. It uses plate solving. Some people also use SharpCap software and a digital camera to do the same thing. Also, drift aligning may work also (Phd2). I think you only need very rough polar alignment to make these above methods work.

    • @ranjitgovindaraj
      @ranjitgovindaraj 4 роки тому

      CORZONEX I’m living 11°N also and I can never see POLARIS to align from my location. So I drift alignment using PHD2. Initially it can be intimidating but it get really easy as you do it often. Sharpcap and any other plate solving doesn’t really help as north from my location is not really visible till 25° from the horizon. I do a rough polar alignment using the PS Align Pro App for IOS. And Drift alignment using PhD2. I’ll try and find a video to explain this to you in a better manner.

      @@AstroAddict naja ich sehe immer mal wieder etwas von iOptron, kenne mich aber in dieser Hinsicht nicht so aus. Deswegen überlege ich momentan, ob ich das HEQ-5 pro kaufen sollte und wollte gerne mal deine Meinung dazu hören. Aber von deiner Antwort leite ich ab, dass das HEQ-5 immer noch top ist.

      Natürlich muss man schauen ob die Montierung den eigenen Anforderungen standhält, aber nur weil sie alt ist heißt das nicht das sie schlechter geworden ist. Schon damals war die Nachführung sehr gut für einfache astronomische Anwendungen wie meine. Das alter ändert nichts.

    I am from a middle class family from india. I only have a budget of 1200euro for all components for astrophotography. What can i do?

    • @AstroAddict
      @AstroAddict  Рік тому

      You should go for second hand parts, like a used Canon DSLR from ebay. Those come in at about 200-300$, sometimes even modified. Same applies to a budget tracking mount, like a used iOptron sky tracker. You can also put in a few minor accessoires like a clip filter, focusing mask and as lens maybe a used rokinon 135 f2. 1200€ will not be enough for a PC controlled deep sky setup, but if you have some dark skies, the setup I described can also get you far!

    Nice video Tim, well edited and explained! I have a question though, I want to get into the hobby and I know my first big purchase is the mount. I’m considering the Celestron AVX, but most I see on UA-cam seem to go Skywatcher’s HEQ5. I’m trying to understand why when on paper they seem very similar, is the something that I’m missing that makes spending the $200 more on the HEQ5? Most places in the States have the AVX at $899 (it’s currently on sale for $799) vs the HEQ5 at $1,150.

    • @AstroAddict
      @AstroAddict  4 роки тому

      Both have the same price in my region

    • @rccola454
      @rccola454 4 роки тому

      @@AstroAddict Makes sense then, so all things being equal, would you still pick the HEQ5 over the AVX, or is it just which ever is the cheapest at the time of purchase?

    • @AstroAddict
      @AstroAddict  4 роки тому +1

      It depends on how dedicated you want your setup. Both will work with average telescopes, but I think that the avx will eventually become too small If you want to upgrade

    A GoTo and an auto guider are defintively NOT needed to get started in deep sky astrophotography. A good star atlas will both let you know how to align your mount (a point slightly beside the polsr star) and find your objects.

    I disagree, I think beginner deep sky setup is a cheap used canon DSLR and super cheap but super high quality older takumar lens on like a used skywatcher pro.

    Everything is too expensive, to hard, to complicated and too heavy. After three months of wrestling with a German equatorial mount, figuring out how to use the telescope, camera and software, I got my first photo of Jupiter and four moons, last night. I should have taken up knitting.
