  • Testing how the power consumption and pressure delivery change when running two pumps in series.
We used a small 370w pump with a pressure switch to feed into a 1500w Variable Speed Drive (VSD) pump to see how it affects the power consumption and the pressure delivery of the system.
We tested everything for power draw, pressure, and flow.

What is the black plastic check valve for that came with the pump, where do I install it?

Typically it would be a non return to prevent water from flowing back to the tank if your tank is at a lower level than your pump. There are ones that are designed to go in the tank but if it is an inline one then you want it as close to the tank as possible to keep the line primed.

Is a VSD booster pump worth the high cost?

Hi, It depends on the situation. You can get a lot of the same benefits by using a dumb pump with a big pressure tank. We tested it here: ua-cam.com/video/IWUXIgjzCI4/v-deo.html It is however a simple solution to lower power consumption and the pumps themselves tend to be better quality too. The biggest point is probably if you want to run it from an inverter as the non vsd pumps can often trip solar inverters as some of them have massive startup currents. You also normally have a controller that you can set a lot more in the vsd pumps and many have functions like leak detection. They also tend to run quieter, but they are also not all created equally. There is a massive jump in quality and silence if you go for something like the DAB Esybox from another vsd pump.

@@FilterShopZa Thank you for the feedback. I will try the VSD Jojo booster pump. Yes it is a solar setup, but fairly big. Ran the same system with a normal .75kw booster pump. Consumption was a bit too high, but no tripping or other issues.

@@rstrajt9220 Also look at the Stainless steel option from the same manufacturer as the Jojo as it doesn't have the corrosion issues. filtershop.co.za/en/hms750-075kw-intelli-booster-pump Or the best option in the market at the moment is the DAB Esybox mini but it is a bit more expensive: filtershop.co.za/en/dab-esybox-mini3-075kw-vsd-booster-pump
