The GREATEST After-Siren Goals In AFL History REACTION
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who took time to comment on my last AFL reaction video. I really appreciate all the comments and I am still working my through them to reply to everyone. Everyone gave me so much good information and I learned a lot just from those comments so thanks again. For this video I wanted to check out last minute goals. That is something I love about soccer (and all other sports) and it didn't disappoint. There has been some amazing last minute drama in AFL as seen in this video. Tell me what your favourite after-siren goal ever is in AFL? Also keep recommending other AFL videos and I will check them out soon. Thanks again!!
Nothing better than seeing a Scotsman from Glasgow getting excited! haha Love ya work mate :P
GDAY ..YOUNG BRAVEHEART...MATE...NO WUCKERS....enjoy..the afl season starts on MARCH 16th ..see you there.
You’re correct about catching (marking) the ball then the siren goes. You cannot pass the ball or run in any other line but a straight line for a shot at a goal. You might enjoy this video of Collingwood (the magpies) from 2022. ua-cam.com/video/OfctOsrT6aw/v-deo.html
If crazy fans are what you want, then the pitch invasion after Buddy Franklin kicks his 1000th goal is something to behold
That one, along with Tony Lockett’s 1300th goal. Those pitch invasions were amazing.
Yep I was one of them! It was awesome
Absolutely 💯 brilliant ❤️.. The love was amazing 😍
Aussies love it when people show enthusiasm for our sport 👍
Great, well this is an awesome sport and I don't think many people could not find it exciting. Brilliant sport
The players on the field have no idea how much time is left before the end of the game. That's also where the added intensity comes from, in a close game. Totally agree with many others, ya gotta watch Buddy Franklin's 1000th goal. You won't see ANYTHING like it ever again!!! Enjoy
They always say that. Some amazing player will get there again.
Hi Mat. Your enthusiasm for our great game is beautiful to watch. Thank you. To clarify, if a player marks the ball before the siren sounds, he can take his kick. If he plays on, by altering his line to the goals, or handballs, or anything other than taking his kick, the game is done. That goal kicked by Malcome Blight went about 85m, (possibly 90) and ten rows into the crowd. Some say that was the best kick in the history of the world. 😊We can't wait for you to watch the 50 best speccy's / hangers / screamers (spectacular marks/catches) of all time. Cheers from Aus.
You can only kick after the siren if you have a free kick or mark (which gives you a free kick). If the ball is in open play ie a player has possession but doesn't have a free kick, then the game ends when the siren sounds
Ah nice one that is a perfect explanation. Thanks Steven!
If the ball has been kicked and the siren goes, it is still a goal, if the ball goes through without being touched.
Regarding distance. In the modern game, there is an arc that marks the distance 50 meters from goal. It is generally accepted that, for most players, it is possible to kick a goal from within that arc. Exceptional players can kick a goal from 60+ meters, but this is unusual. The Blight goal (second in your watch) was ridiculous. Must have been at least 70+ and cleared the line with room to spare.
10:54 context for this game.
The Brisbane Lions (BL) had been losing by as much as 50 points earlier in the match. They managed to claw back the lead entirely in the last quarter, winning the game after the siren and coining the game as "the miracle on grass"
My father's cousin (however that works) used to be captain of Richmond back in the day. Roger Dean #3 . They used to call him *Autumn Leaves* because he kept falling down to get free kicks.
haha I know of a few soccer players who could use that name as well
@@MertAus Even though these guys are huge celebrities, most of them are still down to earth and regularly go out to schools for meet n greets and to visit patients in hospitals or old folks homes. The news will be on blast for any little (& not so little) indiscretion but not much praise is given for their good-will efforts.
If you want to check out a good after the siren goal, I’d recommend the video “Last two minutes: Round 3, 2022. Adelaide Crows vs Port Adelaide”. For context these two teams are cross town rivals and play in what’s called the ‘Showdown’ twice a year. It’s one of the most intense games and rivalries in AFL.
Brilliant finish to a game ever.
My favourite after siren goal was that one you showed of the Lions over Geelong. I was at that game, and it was just insane. The goal kicker, you may have heard was referenced as the milestone man - Ash McGrath was playing his 200th game that night so it was ridiculously poetic that he got the shot on goal. We had high hopes in the stands, he actually kicked another goal from pretty much the same blades of grass earlier on in the game too. But you never know, it's pretty hard to kick the same goal twice, let alone right on your longest distance.
The defending team will do all sorts of shenanigans to put off the kicker . Its only common for a kick to win the game normally a guy stands there with his arms in the air
Ah that makes sense. I was shocked when I seen the guy do a handstand.
There was a famous west coast game a few years ago that was won after the siren. They never lead all day and the final siren went with them having a shot at goal. They never lead once during regular match time but won after it had gone. It was amazing.
Yes, yes it was 🦅💛💙💛
i love the extra cruelty of the moment, how your team can be winning on the scoreboard as the final siren sounds ... but a minute later end up losing the game from 1 kick haha. But if you miss, it's painful!!! So much pressure on 1 person to win the game for the TEAM. So yeah I really like the ability to kick after the siren, adds a bit of spice
I can't tell you how cruel that was and I wasn't even there.
I was watching that game on TV as Melbourne supporter. We hadn't been near a final for years and it looked like we would win because nobody could kick a goal from 55 meters. It was also a game where a Melbourne great was playing his last and it was a "do it for Robbie" motivational performance and had they won they would have played the Grand Final. I had jumped out of my chair and punched the ceiling in delight, and then, the horror, Jimmy Stynes, an Irish recruit and great player accidently infringed by running across the line of the guy with the free kick. The 15 meter penalty put him in range for a good kick to reach. And kick it he did, relegating Melbourne to the doldrums, mostly, until last year.
Jimmy Stynes was a fabulous player and played his heart out for years after, but no one could ever forget that mistake. On such simple things turn huge events.
The traditional big 4 clubs from Victoria Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon & Richmond have huge followings similar (domestically) to United, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc. and have broadly been the most successful in terms of premierships. Games between these 4 (sometimes regardless of their on field form) pull 80,000 people…
You’re reacting to AFL so I subscribed 😂
Awesome sport! Love your enthusiasm.
Watching a game on tv is no comparison to being there, the atmosphere is just amazing. It's worth a trip down under just to go to a game/match
The context behind the Brisbane Lions kick “the one in which the commentators scream…it’s the miracle on grass”, (third last one I think) was that it was not only a last minute win it was ALSO a massive comeback for the Lions to win 😎🤘🔥 there are a few great videos on this match too mate.
As a kid remember going to a final where an after the final whistle made the difference.
One of the greatest happened this season.
Look up Jamie Elliott 2022 vs Essendon.
Definitely adding that this goal was amazing. I was at the game and I nearly had a heart attack.
I was at that game. It was the best. You could barely hear the siren
@@melanyhowell7046 mate I wish I was there. I was home with two kids yelling at the TV!
I am a Collingwood supporter and i love them. They are one of the biggest clubs and this year reached 100,000 members. They played some of the greatest close finishes in their games this season 2022. They are all on you tube in one compilation. It is worth watching. You will not be disappointed!!!!😊😊😊
I am not a Collingwood supporter and I hate them. This year they reached 100,000 bogans and criminals. They played in the most grand final losses in history. They are all on UA-cam. It is worth watching especially Dom Sheeds goal in the 2018 Grand Final. You will not be disappointed!!!!😊😊😊
@@57chevisawsomeness No you are probably a Carlton supporter!!!! Jealousy is a curse!!!!!
@@jeannieferguson3311 i don't like Collingwood either. I am Richmond. However, those finishes in 2022 were absolutely outrageous. how you won some of those i shall never know. very impressive. However, as a Richmond supporter i must comment my favourite close match of 2022 was when you lost to Sydney in the prelim by 1 point. brilliant game.
@@ryanaustin6243 Even though Collingwood lost to Sydney by 1 point I still have to agree with you. It was a brilliant game. Credit where credit is due!!!
@@jeannieferguson3311 fair enough. a couple of my mates are Collingwood supporters and we feud a lot but in the end it's only friendly banter. it's the Carlton supporters that take it too far.
There was so much of those moments and clutch moments for this years season definitely checkout this years highlights
If you want to see what is probably the most intense and emotional game of football ever watch Jason McCartney's return game. He suffered 2nd degree burns to more than 50% of his body in the Bali bombings. He didn't realise the extent of his injuries so went about helping others he thought were worse off than him. He was eventually airlifted back to Australia, was put into an induced coma for a week and almost died during surgery. 8 months later, and despite most people believing it was impossible, he was selected to play against Richmond. There is a 14 minute UA-cam video titled Round 11, 2003: Jason McCartney's return.
Regarding the first one, the siren sounds until the umpire acknowledges that it has blown, usually only 2 seconds, but occasionally longer
That was great spotting to see the North Melbourne player doing a handstand. Ive never seen that in my life before.🤣🤣
Still kinda salty (but kinda honoured to be involved haha) about the 10:50 clip , Cats choked a 52 point lead towards the end of the game and Lions somehow clawed it back at their home ground. This was the actual perfect finish that you mentioned for the previous clip lol. Fairytale type game, coined the Miracle on Grass
It’s very obvious you are a sports fan, and you have picked up some of the nuances of the game very quickly. I hope you keep enjoying the afl reactions. I will keep watching.
There are heaps of great games and highlights over the years! Enjoy! Of course some games are one sided, but those games where it’s unpredictable and any side can win or lose in a short time! Love it!
The long siren because of the fan noise probably!! 😁 Yes a clean mark - definite catch - is possession! 👍 I just watched the Croatia vs Japan match, it went into double overtime, I thought Croatia were on their their last legs an hour ago (due to age), but they really finished well! 😳👍 Great video reaction, thanks! 🤗👏 Definitely Buddy Franklin 1000th! 🎉😮
Looking forward to the top 50 marks and top 50 goal reactions
The best was in 2017 when West Coast Eagles won the Grand Final by 1 point after a goal kicked after the siren .
I'm a Richmond supporter, been a member for 23 years. I was at both of those last two games (Richmond winning after the siren & Richmond losing after the siren). Tight games like those are very intense and nerve-wracking, but if you're an impartial viewer, they're beautiful matches of footy.
11:04 Brisbane is the team that won in that game and they came back from 52 points down to win
I was there at the Richmond Swans one. Swans fan. It was crazy, insane stuff.
Also the siren is hard to hear by the umpires because the crown noise is enormous. You can hear the commentators saying that they hadn't heard it yet.
And yes, after the siren the player has possession and can focus on kicking for goal. Pressure indeed.
if you mark (catch the ball from a kick) the ball and the siren goes while you're holding it, as long as you haven't played on you can kick for goal
Need to watch highlights of the "miracle on grass", best come-back game I've seen 👌
You have GOT to watch some of the Australian Diamonds netball. So fast, so skilfull and very, very physical.
Players jump up and around to put the player off, but rarely works!
That first one, the man infringing the mark was the late great Irishmen Jimmy Stynes. The siren isn't normally that long, but I think the siren used to be sounded until the umpires acknowledge it. Basically the game isn't over until the umpire says it's over - but it is a little nuanced (which has caused at least 1 pretty big argument in the last 20 years or so - can't remember the details, I think it was St Kilda vs Fremantle where the umpire didn't hear the siren and allowed play to continue and the result changed...the AFL ruled at the time "the umpire hadn't called time even though the siren had sounded"). When the siren sounds, the ball continues to be live until it is touched by someone. If someone happens to have a free kick at the time the siren sounds, they're entitled to take their kick, but they can't play on - which these days is interpreted as they have to kick over the mark (in this case mark is the spot where the free kick has been marked, as opposed to catching the ball (which I think derives from the same concept - when the ball is caught, the ground is 'marked' to show where their free is from).
Maybe the video is too old, but 2021 gave us a great kick after the siren with Melbourne storming home from a long way down and winning after the siren in R23 to give them the minor premiership.
Can't beat footy for drama. I'm a Geelong fan so this pains me to say, but after you've done the best marks/goals/etc., you need to react to the Nick Davis Game - Sydney v. Geelong 2005. Find a highlight video or just one of the last few minutes. You'll absolutely lose your mind.
Entirely agree. I was at the game (Swans fan, sorry mate) with some friends and afterwards as we walked back to our car all of us were still saying, "I can't believe that just happened.... I just can't believe it".
@Judy Adamson So jealous, and no need to apologize. We got ours a couple years later and (in retrospect) it was worth it to get that Sydney/West Coast rivalry
Will do mate, that sounds like a fun one to watch. Yeah I love late drama in all sports. This one was a very enjoyable video watch.
@Mat Salleh Reacts been loving your channel! Stumbled on it a week or so ago and your tastes are right up my street

Hi there. So I’m going to try to convince you to go for a team on the other side of Australia, AKA “The Dark Side”. 😅
We have two Western Australian teams here, the Fremantle Dockers and the West Coast Eagles. Yes, they fly to the east to play the other teams most weeks, or they come to us. It’s roughly a 6 hr flight. The Dockers got to the semi finals this year and won against the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in the most spectacular way. I’m linking a video of the game highlights for you to watch. It was the greatest come back I, and the commentators have ever seen. And the crowd was so loud nobody could hear themselves think. It was incredible to hear 100,000 people going off their heads.
Also Optus Stadium in Perth was just voted the worlds best sporting stadium. I’ve also included a video on it (which has over a million likes), it’s beautiful. And enormous. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers are playing here next week.
So instead of following everyone else who watches AFL from other countries, why not go for one of our teams instead of the usual Eastern States ones. Preferably the Dockers. 😅 they’ll be in the grand final in 2023, I can garuntee it.

100,000? Really? The figures I’ve seen 58,000. I think he will go for, 🦢🦢🦢
@@Rick-da-scale sorry, my bad. I typed that very wrong. 59,000. I was one of them and it was bloody incredible.
And yeah, they all go for the Swans.

Amazing thanks for your run down of the game Kym, sounds fantastic. Will have a watch of the highlights when I am eating my dinner later. That is interesting about the travel time, quite a long flight to fly so often. Must be a bit more tiring for the players. Just googled the Optus Stadium and it looks like a cracker. Really stunning stadium!!
@@MertAus 🦅's......( If you watch enough footy a team will choose you)
If they catch the ball before the buzzer. AKA. If they mark the ball before the siren. Lol.
You spoke about doing advertisements and a really good one is the 1994 AFL ad, “I’d like to see that.” International sports stars say the above phrase regarding some of the skills of the game. It’s an excellent ad.
Also I put up something about AFL in the area where you are now living, but the post kept getting knocked back, and I have no idea why. Search in your area, and I’m sure you’ll find what I found.
React to Nic Nat is back
Best highlight reel of any AFL player
a goal on the siren is similar to a foul shot in basketball. after the buzzer has gone you are still able to take the two foul shots. in AFL when you mark it it's an unimpeded kick. if the siren goes it's the last kick of the game.
Brilliant! 👍😁
One more thing about the after the siren goals is the context of them. With the first one, that match was a preliminary final. The winner goes on to the grand final, and the loser is out. So the crowd is going to be loud there.
The Brisbane/Geelong game is known as the Miracle on Grass. You need to react to that one as well.
Yes mate, if you take a mark before the siren you are allowed to go back and take your kick.
So just on the reason why they can take a kick after the siren....
If you take a mark 'within scoring distance', you have 30 seconds to take that set shot. Soon as the mark is paid by the umpires, the 30 seconds applies regardless, so the fact that the siren goes is immaterial to your 30 seconds to attempt your scoring shot.
The same applies to a free kick paid by the umpires within scoring distance. Generally anything inside the 50m arc would be considered scoring distance, anything longer than that will usually take a very big kick.
Glad this one got you fired up. Imagine something like this happening with 80,000 at the MCG.
Haha your hooked! If replays get you this excited, can't wait till you see a live match!! Unfortunately you have about four months till next season 😂
You could also watch best comeback wins! Teams that were so far behind on the scoreboard and leave it to the last quarter! 1970 grand final a good example!
You need to react to the Brisbane Lions vs Geelong match shown on here. The miracle on grass, round 13 2013
You should watch the highlights from Dustin Martin in 2017. He was the most dominant individual player in the whole league by a significant margins in that year.
i have 2 reactions to offer you have a look at 1) top 10 AFL villains 2) Worst AFL injuries of All time
It's like hooow I leanrt to speak like a scotsman. Just say the colours on a snooker table. 😂😂
Average attendance of AFL is much higher than NRL (31,000 vs 16,000, respectively in 2022).
the siren is quite short in afl i don't know why it was that long.
I was at both those Hawthorn ones (yes, even the 1987 one to get us into the GF. We lost that GF, but that's ok, we won '86, '88, '89 and '91), for one win, one loss. The difference is obviously night and day, absolute euphoria vs kick in the guts deflation. Anyway, subbed, very much looking forward to your Top 50 marks and goals reaction videos. Will watch out for them.
“Biggest AFL fights” UA-cam , When it got heated and emotional on the field!
Lol just look up "Barry Hall Shithousery". Closest thing to a hockey goon in the last 20 years. He was good enough to beat you straight up, but usually chose violence.
Aborigines are a real bonus for any team who can secure that contract.
Siren must be heard by the umpire, then the umpire blows the whistle to call the end! The player taking the kick must kick over the player that is standing on the Mark! Or spot where a opposition player must stand where the other player caught the ball!
Why I don’t know, but my previous comment is likely to disappear, if it does, search for a website of AFL in Malaysia.
Crowd atmosphere isn't guaranteed at every match. 2022 Grand Final, one side slaughtered the other for the entire match. Thats so dispiriting for the losing side's fans, and the winning side's fans just feel so sorry and uncomfortable for the losing side and their fans doing so badly. That type of game gets really quiet and depressing.
Collingwood had the most close finishes of any team in history this year. This video is a good highlight of the end of most of those games. The goal against Essendon in round 19 after the siren, and the 1 point win against Collingwood's biggest rival Carlton (which also meant that Carlton missed out on finals) were amongst the best moments

How much do we love our football? Well we will attend games that our team are not playing in just to watch a game. I guess we do love sport I have a men’s afl team a women’s afl team a men’s cricket and a women’s cricket team I support soccer both men and women’s hockey is the same I have a rugby team I support a basketball team I support I watch tennis and golf love lawn bowls and darts competitions. Oh and I support aussies in cycling so watch pretty much all the tours especially Tour de France. Lastly love car racing especially Bathurst and Dakar. Of course love both the winter and summer olympics as well. I don’t play any sport just a serial viewer/supporter 👍
So just a small note. You are really catching on. But for afl we call it a 'mark' not a catch when you receive the ball. And yes when you mark the ball you get a chance to dispose of it regardless of whether the final siren has gone (aka take a final kick at goal).
To clarify, a mark can only occur from a kick. If you catch the ball from a handball it's not a mark.
Aussie rules oi oi oi ❤🇦🇺🔥

Top 50 goals of all time! Video UA-cam!
If a player takes a mark or is given a free kick they are allowed to take their kick after the siren. The player must kick over the mark and, in theory, run in a direct line between the centre of the goal and the position of the mark.
The rules have loosened in recent years to allow the players' "natural kicking style", which means many of them don't go in that straight line. In fact, there were a couple of instances in that video where the players deviated slightly off the straight line to gain extra distance with their kicks. But those were only slight deviations - more have been allowed in recent times. The worst thing is that they now allow players to kick around the corner, so long as they kick the ball when they are on that goal-mark line.
The man on the mark has to stand still now. He cannot jump, or move side-to side or even wave his arms about. Other players have to clear the area, so the efforts at distraction shown in the video will likely not happen again.
The man on the mark is allowed to jump and wave his hands around. You're just not allowed to move forward backwards or sideways.
Look up players, Cyril Rioli, Buddy Faulkner, and there’s many others. The Aboriginal players are the best.
It's a great game isn't it?
Watch the miracle on grass
They’re marks Mat. Not catches.
they missed the best of all the goals , when a player marked(caught) the ball on the boundary line and the camera was over the players shoulder, you could see the angle was so tight, there wasnt any daylight between the goal posts, and then when he kicked it the ball actually got stuck between the posts, but was still given the goal which won the match
19:20
Yeah that’s not a normal tactic per say.
But when it’s after the siren and a goal will change the outcome to a loss.
All of the defenders will dance around like absolute idiots in the desperate hope that the kicker will be distracted and miss
Firs off, welcome to the last true GLADIATOR sport left in the world to answer your question about the siren don’t forget these players are in a massive arena with mostly in big games at times over 100.000 crowd goin of there tits so that explains that, now why they can play at full speed in the last quarter, means you don’t qualify as a footballer at AFL level if you can’t do that , so you play in the second divisions or third ect… to play top level AFL requires the highest level of fitness standard on earth in any code to participate in and good work with your reaction vids keep it up . Oh by the way Aussie rules has been goin for about 160 years and Melbourne football club is the oldest in the world of any code of football Geelong second,
