I really don’t like how they didn’t give the mom a hard time . Someone needs to tell her the way she acts is not okay. She wasn’t just mean she was cruel . This is not healthy . Someone needs to interview her and give her a taste of her medicine.
I have the same situation with my current mom in law...she was forcing my husband to divorce me and I kept wondering wats my fault..we hardly stayed together because of his mom and I had to return back to europe for work and he couldn't get his Visa due to pandemic...she made me feel so worst on my special day by calling me ugly and fat on my engagement day and she keeps influencing her son...she has some set of expectations that is way beyond the boundaries ...she is so so controlling .we couldn't even hold hands in front of her..probably a controlling Bengali mother in law who doesn't want a wife for her son at all..

In the latest ep she pretty much threatened to die i.e. kill herself if Shekeb left the house with Emily. Then in the playback clip all the other moms and sons laughed at it like it was a joke. All of their segments on the show have been disturbing to watch. And it’s disturbing watching them act like this behavior is acceptable and then imply that getting therapy makes you “psycho” and not “normal”. I guess none of that matters if you’re getting screen time and attention
You must understand their culture to understand her mindset! It's not OK in he US, but around the world her way thinking is the way many cultures think. If you think she is bad, take a look at the way a Japanese mother reacts when her son brings home a Caucasian woman.

I think Emily's Korean culture has weighted heavily on her opinion of therapy. I think everyone can benefit from therapy and it's not an indication of being psycho. I think they are a sweet couple and I wish them the best.
I also was thinking the same therapy is not only for the mentally sick people but for people to understand situations that they are in and try to make it better. But that if they want to take the suggestions that are given to them. It doesn't hurt to try.

I’ve been with so many women I wouldn’t lift a finger to intervene any situation because I felt they put themselves in the situation, and I knew it wasn’t something I could tolerate long term.

Healthy family dynamics require listening to the other and making compromises. Leila seems to play into the protective instincts of the men in her family by acting helpless. She makes the men feel that she will fall apart without them. I feel sad for how she exploits the love her son has for her to make decisions for him that clearly keeps him wrapped around his finger. I dont think she is evil or thinks she is harming her son, her view of love is different from mine so these are just my gut reaction watching the show.
My son is in his 40s and he has a lot of issues in his relationship, but I don't step into it, he talks to me about it, but he is a grown man and he needs to figure it out but I will always be there to lend an ear, and not try to control his life..!

I once dated an Indian man and had the EXACT problem with his mother. Nothing I did was good because she only wanted an Indian girl for her son. Shekeb was married to a friend I worked with. He went on secret trips and would leave without talking to her and treated her like shit. I knew her for years and she would cry because she wanted to have kids and he wouldn’t commit to her like that. She was SOOO gorgeous and sweet and spoke 4 languages, she is sooo smart. This girl Emily says she was dating him the same time he was married - why is this not talked about. What happened to Marjan!! No wonder the mom is mad and don’t like this Emily. Also the marriage wasn’t exactly ARRANGED like he’s telling people! She had multiple suitors, not just him, she really felt like they had love between them and she left Germany to come to the US to be with this deadbeat. I also went to their house multiple times and his mom was super nice. I never ever saw her disrespecting anyone or his wife.

Healthy family dynamics require listening to the other and making compromises. Leila seems to play into the protective instincts of the men in her family by acting helpless. She makes the men feel that she will fall apart without them. I feel sad for how she exploits the love her son has for her to make decisions for him that clearly keeps him wrapped around his finger. I dont think she is evil or thinks she is harming her son, her view of love is different from mine so these are just my gut reaction watching the show.
My son is in his 40s and he has a lot of issues in his relationship, but I don't step into it, he talks to me about it, but he is a grown man and he needs to figure it out but I will always be there to lend an ear, and not try to control his life..!

It is a huge shame that a woman has to be treated this way by another woman. Laila was once a daughter-in-law herself and I doubt she would have accepted this type of behavior against herself. Laila is a narcissist. She is controlling. She is using "being a caring mother" as an excuse to cling to her son. As frustrating as Shekeb's behavior is, he is not at fault because his mother has brought him up this way so she knows how to push his buttons and gain sympathy from him. She has molded him to be this way and to see no problem with her behavior. Unfortunately, he will never change and neither will his mother. And just because your religion says paradise lies at your mother's feet, that does not mean you should allow her to treat you or anyone else badly and that does not mean to worship her. It means you should care for her, love her, do right by her, respect her. It does not mean live with her until she dies. In Islam the wife also has rights. She has the right to separate living conditions to her inlaws if her husband is financially able to provide. Stop using Islam to justify your unreasonable demands. It is these kinds of situations that make Islam look like a bad religion that oppresses women. Shekeb was married to a friend I worked with. He went on secret trips and would leave without talking to her and treated her like shit. I knew her for years and she would cry because she wanted to have kids and he wouldn’t commit to her like that. She was SOOO gorgeous and sweet and spoke 4 languages, she is sooo smart. This girl Emily says she was dating him the same time he was married - why is this not talked about. What happened to Marjan!! No wonder the mom is mad and don’t like this Emily.
Also the marriage wasn’t exactly ARRANGED like he’s telling people! She had multiple suitors, not just him, she really felt like they had love between them and she left Germany to come to the US to be with this deadbeat.
