My neighbor is a Vietnam Veteran. When he got home the chopper was king. He still has the very same Halcyon goggles he bought new in the late 60's. Unbelievable quality. The leather isn't even cracked whatsoever.
Stuart, to help remove dead insects from the lenses, try using paper towel that has been soaked in warm water. Let the paper sit on the lens for about 10 minutes, this will effectively soften the insects hard exoskeleton and make removal much easier with far less risk of scratching the polycarbonate lens. I use this method when cleaning the front screen on my Goldwing, it always works really well and is nice and cheap! Get well soon.
Stuart, Thanks for playing hurt. I think I speak for everyone when I say we really appreciate your producing these great videos in spite of feeling crappy . I just got over a rough one myself and I didn't feel like doing anything! Hope you feel better soon and that you weather improves, as well.
Great reveiw Stuart, I bought a pair of these goggles when I was 16 for my first day on the road, I'm 54 now, and still have them, mine have glass lenses as I think they were all supplied back then, my elastic went and being a tight git I replaced it myself( also not realising you can buy it separate!!) But so far, they have lasted 38 years, not used all the time now, but when I'm out on my Enfield with my Davida on, they are what I wear, mine are painted silver and the pads are a man made material, but I guess they make many different models, but no doubt they a quality long lasting item. Get well soon.
I bought my Mk 8 RAF goggles years ago for use in the winter and I'll never wear any other. Before I retired I would often spend several hours at a time on a tractor/snowblower in insulated coveralls, caked in snow and ice in a howling -25 degree blizzard, clearing the sidewalks and entrances around our office here in Waterloo Ontario. For years I tried a few different goggles and then I got my Mk 8s. They resist fogging and icing better than any ski or snowmobile goggles and fit over glasses very, very comfortably. A few years ago I bought my daughter a pair with the chamois lining. I also have a pair of WWII Mk 8s to go with my AM marked type 'C' helmet.
I had just commented yesterday on your goggles as I do really like them and then this evening find this. I love your videos and learn a lot from them. Safe riding and God bless my friend.
Another great and informative video Stuart.Great to see some good old fashioned well manufactured (British made) products can still provide years of good service at a price which overall represents great value! “Chocks away “and get well soon.
Well done,Stuart, great to see a follow up on these great products, and a useful explanation of the best way to get used to wearing them, head up and get well soon.
Thank you, your terrific review informed me enough to purchase a pair for myself. The quality is beyond reproach, I may now order a second pair in the compact version.
I bought a pair of HALCYON goggles in 1969, they were made by Stadium back then. They had laminated glass lenses which never scratched, but, have delaminated here and there around the edges. I retired them in 2009 as the leather over the nose was starting rip. I had them framed, and bought a new pair. I don't wear googles often anymore as I wear a full face helmet which suits my technology communications and music appreciation better. When I do wear them , I enjoy the comfort of the leather covered pads and the fit adjusted by that little turnbuckle between the eyes. I thought they were cool in 1969, and they still are !
Thank you for the information. I enjoy your videos very much. I always come away with an increase in knowledge and understanding. I truly appreciate your time and efforts. Be well and ride safe.
The best pair of motorcycle goggles I've ever owned and I owned many. All others wore down and off, the Halcyon low profile ones I have had since 2012 still look as new and as good as the day I bought them. Brass construction, stylish, HQ policarb user-replaceable inserts, fully hand made in UK, all parts replaceable, and the fit is perfect...I really haven't much more to add :-)
Excellent review as usual. Thanks for the info about prescription lenses. Sorry to hear your still under the weather, hope you recover fully and quickly. Thank you again.
Hello Stuart from across the pond. Just bought these goggles based on your reviews. And I have to say they are fantastic for highway riding not to mention just plain bad ass old school looking. I like that I can just lift the goggles up on the helmet and down again and not have to fool around with sunglasses . Thanks.
Thanks for the update Stuart. These are beautiful goggles and I have finally decided to bite the bullet and buy them. A little pricey but obviously worth the investment . Cheers. Dan
Thank you Stuart for a great channel. As a biker with classics form the 60s, 70s and 80s these goggles looked the perfect addition However while the product looks good my experience was terrible. I purchase a set of Mark 9 Vintage googles and found they didn’t fit comfortable with any of my Helmets (3 different makers and all Large) so I wanted to swap for their Compact version, so far no issues and I was happy to do an exchange. After days of no response by Phone or Email I just posted the googles back to them for a refund because I was utterly disappointed by NO response to phone or email. As a biker and a flyer I want to buy local and support British business with good products however this product looks good, but the service is non-existent.
Hi Stuart, yes I too wear an open faced lid with mk49's,have done for years.I also have another pair of similar goggles from the far east but the quality does not compare with the 49ers.The only problem I found with open faced lids is at high speed?I have had the goggles fly off and flap wildly on the stud at the back of the helmet which a friend commented, made me look like a scene from an Ealing comedy as I passed by!That was of course down to me and adjustment. Finally get well soon. (You may need to isolate Stuart?)
I read an interesting story about the desert fox himself always wore a pair of these on his uniform. They were gifted to him by a British pow whome he had lifted up off the ground himself and ensured was well looked after... Apparently. Respect among enemies
I got mine last week and have been using them. I really like them. I bought some they had at the motorcycle shoppe and they were awful. they pushed down on the bridge of my nose so hard it left a bruise. These are great
Hey Stuart I bought a pair of MK 49 Halcyon after seeing your review. I usually wear my 1987 Ray Ban 62 MM Generals for casual riding. At speeds above 50mph my eyes begin to tear. That's when I reach up and pull the MK 49s down over them. They perform just fine. I suggest not pressing the sunglasses too tightly against your face though as the Halcyons will increase the pressure on the nose pieces which can be painful.
Hi Stuart - I bought a pair of mk49s this year when I treated myself to a new Davida 92 helmet. I think these goggles are a brilliant piece of simple design, manufactured to the highest quality. Previously I had a pair of Pilot Aviator goggles by Leon Jeantet: those were good but the Halcyons are better, in my opinion. Thanks for another interesting video and wishing you a speedy recovery.
Greetings from Houston, Texas... I love my 2020 T120. And, I love this channel. I appreciate your attention to detail and share your passion for these bikes. You may have covered this, but I can’t seem to find, specifically, what you use to maintain the aluminum engine cover finish. I managed to build up water spots and I don’t want to damage the finish trying to remove them. Thanks for all the work you put into this.... Mike
Hi Stuart. I have a open face carbon fibre LS2. The noise of the face protector when open is of a high pitched whistling. 😟You defo made my mind up of digging out my old googles and taking the screen off my helmet. Great videos 👍
Great looking and great value goggles. À full face helmet may be a little more protective but with a open faced helmet you get a better riding experience and you feel much more out in the open air.
Excellent review, I really wish I could wear an open face helmet and goggles as in my youth but have to wear glasses now and just cannot use them without discomfort. Hope you get well soon.
Interesting accent! Where? Not Liverpool: barnsley perhaps? I am about to buy a Bell 500 (why don't they do the colours they used to market in the US??) and yes, Halcion goggles as per yours. It was almost already decided but your vid. took away any further question apart from where to buy both in or around Somerset (not via computer!!!). Bike,, I'm 71 and just bought a 1959 Harley Duo Glide. Silly old fool!
Excellent Review again, thanks. I am back in the saddle again and on a much faster and powerful T100. I decided to take a quick run down to the next village yesterday, I use an open face helmet. I thought I would not need the goggles that cam with the helmet. Bad mistake, that wind was cold and hard into my eyes, slowed the pace but traffic soon builds up behind. I will certainly invest in those goggles, but there seems to be a confusing variety to choose from. Is there much of a difference and I wonder if Stuart chose the MK49 for some specific reason? Thanks, Liam
Has anyone worn with out a helmet?Im in a state with no helmet law.Like the look of them.A revzilla video he’s got them on but just wondering if anyone’s rode with them without the helmet.Any feedback appreciated
Nice review and thank you, Stuart. Do you find the strap slips off the helmet over time or does it remain in place? Is there some form of clipping mechanism or do you just strategically place the strap around the helmet? Thanks.
Halcyon is a very and "so British spirit" brand. Beautiful. Tradition. But, if you wear wear glasses, you could chose Aviator Goggles, which is, despite the name, French. "Modèle 4182 T2". Same quality. The "modèles, 4400, 4600, 4602 and 444" are the most "vintage" ones. Directly inspired or gone from... The Great War!
Great review as ever Stuart! One question though.... I notice that some helmets have a clip at the back that the goggles would fit in to prevent them sliding off. Do you thing this is something I should be looking for in a helmet?
My eyes are very sensitive to light. Do these block light/glare as well as a good quality category 4 sunglasses? Are there any specific goggles anyone could recommend?
I used to wear these and had many a good year out of them. One day, a copper pulled me and asked whether they had scratch proof lens and was insistent that they should be the new fangled plastic ones. When I told him that glass was more scratchproof, he wasn't amused! Also, what was Marathon called before it became Snickers? (What was Stadium called before it became Halcyon)!

I love the look of the open face helmet and goggles but I have ridden with a full face helmet since some time in the 70s. A habit which I prefer not to break. Hot? Yes. The temperature in Florida is subtropical. Temperatures run above 80 degrees fahrenheit from March into late November . Helmet wearing is optional here in much of the colonies (a foolish freedom, I think). I just tell people that I am too pretty to ride without a full face helmet. To each his own. Thank you sir. You are a steely-eyed missile man.
"Back in the day", I used to ride with an open-face helmet and ski goggles, and I found that the wind buffeting getting into my helmet hurt my ears and affected my hearing for hours after a long ride. If I rode now, I'd use a full face helmet or use ear plugs (which may be illegal in California) if just to steady the air pressure on my ear drums.

They do look good, no doubt about that but would be nervous wearing them without some lower face guard. Maybe you should get one Stuart less Halcyon do some nice dentures to go with their goggles. :)
Like I said in the video paul not discussing that! but the flip side is drowning in your own vomit inside a helmet after an accident or a higher incidence of broken necks due to the leverage from the chin bar!
Rick Simpson Cleary you had a crash in your early days which you can't remember and now your brain is totally mashed. Thanks for being a prime example to all why head protection is very important! Appreciate your comment..
stuart fillingham Well, you are an intelligent guy. Your life, your choices. Just for your info though you need bone mass for dental implants. :) On a serious note would be interested to see an objective review of lower face guards for the retro rider..

Hello Stuart. Thanks for this. You mentioned something about prescription Halcyon googles. Can you tell me more about that ?
Cheers !
all I know is that it is a service they at least used to offer, best bet is to give them a ring and ask.
I used to wear these and had many a good year out of them. When I told him that glass was more scratchproof, he wasn't amused! Also, what was Marathon called before it became Snickers? (What was Stadium called before it became Halcyon)!
these do meet current eye wear standards.
How do you ride when facing the sun?
How would be able to use these goggles if I wear powered eyeglasses ?
Hi Stuart, just wondering if you find any significant loss to your peripheral vision wearing goggles as opposed to a visor? Also how do you find them in wet weather conditions compared to a visor?
No not that I've noticed.

@@PaulAnthonyDuttonUk I was a traffic officer for many years Paul ive seen every ugly angle of bike accidents, and this video is not a forum for that helmet debate, I made that clear in the video.
stuart fillingham - Stuart, chillax .. It's only you and a mad bloke who are bringing attention to my comment. Got out of bed the wrong way it seems. Oh and where is my love heart today ? :)
