As compelling as Layne Staley's vocals were, the band wouldn't have been what it was without Jerry Cantrell's backing vocals...one of the most underrated singers of the grunge era.
Layne was one of a kind, but I’ve always been a bigger fan of Jerry Cantrell. His solo work in between AIC ending and then being revived with William Duval was amazing. I wish they incorporated his solo work into AIC. Maybe they do; but I haven’t seen it.
People used to recall when he was playing live you could physically feel his voice almost as if it was resonating from deep in his chest, almost as if there was base speakers making the sound not coming from his mouth. Layne Stanley had an intense strong voice
The man talking in the beginning was jerry cantrell's father. He wrote this song about him. The line "they spit on me in my homeland" refers to vietnam vets being treated like dirt when they came home.
Anti-war morons who don't know shit about what's really going on. They see dying children and automatically blame the people fighting in the war on the American side when the North Vietnamese were committing incomprehensible war crimes against their own people.

I saw this on my home page and have never clicked on something so fast. Yes! More Alice In Chains! Love Hate Love live at the Moore is an amazing performance. It’s arguably when Layne was in his prime, him being so healthy.
Ahhh! AHH! Yes. Their 'Facelift' album was amazing. The first commercially successful so-called "Seattle Grunge" album, and well worth the moniker. So many great songs. "It Ain't Like That" being one of the greats unwashed masses were ignorant of.
I’m amazed by people’s reactions and comments about AIC because EVERYONE loves them. It’s amazing what Alice in Chains makes you feel and its impact on everyone who listens to the band for the first time. It's lovely to see people’s comments and respect for Layne and the rest of the band.
Why does everyone leave out Slaves and Bulldozers by Soundgarden? It's one of their best and really shows what Chris is (was...) made of. Rarely do I see people recommend that particular song.
Thank you for really listening to the song and it's meaning. A lot of their songs are dark but all are amazing. Try reacting to Down in a Hole, Don't Follow, or Love Hate Love for more Alice in Chains if you haven't already. Looking forward to the next video and have a great day!!!!👍🤘
His dad was a machine gunner in Vietnam. Their nickname was rooster because of the shells ejecting like a rooster tail while firing. The song is about his dads experience in the war.
I never thought of AIC and Soundgarden as grunge. They've always felt more metal to me. Just so happens that they rose to popularity during the grunge boom.
@@sedated_ape metal is subjective for sure. The darkness and simple layering of AIC feels metal to me, and the soaring vocals and odd time signatures that Soundgarden used had a, at times, prog feel.
