What an absolutely beautiful performance. It takes your breath away. This was always one of my favorite tunes. Really makes you wonder how they can call the trash they play today music at all. Just gorgeous.
What a hauntingly beautiful song from the World War II era. So many people stateside did not know where there loved ones were overseas, and this song was like a prayer for their safe return... The people of that generation (and we will NEVER see their like again) were steeped in the cruel lessons of the Depression and the 2nd World War - yet most of them had character, principles, and a resolve fueled by faith to fight against oppression, and for a better tomorrow. They may not have been perfect, but at least they tried to make a decent world, as was reflected in their lifestyle - behavior, clothes, movies, music; compare that to today, and there is no comparison. The civilization our ancestors knew and loved no longer exists for us, and those of us who are discerning enough can seek out these beautiful images and melodies - sit there with our eyes closed, and dream of how splendid it must have been, despite the hardships and the uncertainties, because people believed, then, in a brighter future. (For us, however, there may not even BE a future. So, we must reverence the past, while we still have a present...)
@fasbc Thank you! You are so right! Sweet, talented, and courageous, making all those tours during the war years. All those stars, risking their lives to bolster morale. How the servicemen loved her!
This is taken from a Radio show called Command Performance it was sent to troops and on air during WWII. She toured with Bob Hope with the USO in WWII and others .. Amazing voice
Frances always makes me cry. She had such expression and understanding. There's a verse in Genesis from the Bible that says "There were giants in the land in those days" I take it to mean strength of character, heart, rather than stature.Thank you for your wonderful comment.
@warwolfii You are so right! There is no music any more, just semi-organized noise. !2 foot speakers, pyro-technics, a full background chorus. Back in Frances' day all that was needed was a woman, a microphone and a band. The result: ENCHANTMENT!
Alice Faye introduced this song in the movie Hello Frisco Hello and she sang it beautifully. This rendition by Frances Langford even though the record is a little scratchy in my opinion sang it better than Alice Faye. Frances Langford had much more of a smoother voice with a higher pitch then Alice.
Amen, Charles! In fact, two amens! No lyrics to remember. All visual. Cast of unmemorable thousands. And hi tech assistance to the max. Remember the time a singer had to belt out a song to be heard. Gone are those days. And too many screen "lovers" are pushing the envelope on x-rated "love" scenes. Remember the girl next door named Colleen. Gone are the days!

I can't seem to find it on UA-cam. So will someone familiar with the work please post "Billie," from the musical, "Billie," by George M. Cohan. We get something of it in the movie, "Yankee Doodle Dandy," but not enough of it. "Billie" shows off Langford's wonderful singing range to the max. I would appreciate it.
Beautiful as alwas..always... France Langford and Ralph Evan ❤😊rood🎉
My favorite
She was wonderful. Not just singing. She ran the Outrigger Restaurant in Jensen Beach Florida for years, made Lobster Bisque to die for. Great person
Thank you Carlo. Frances deserves to be remembered. What sweet and talented lady.

Her voice, like Vera Lynn's and Jo Stafford's, was so right for the war years.
They all made such a large contribution
Just Simply Heaven to my ears! Ahhhh! This actually brings tears to my eyes to hear such clarity and angelic sounds...xoxox
