The Black Demon is about a family that gets stranded on a crumbling oil rig in Baja, Mexico, where they face off against a vengeful megalodon shark that is part of a local legend. The movie is inspired by the stories of fishermen who claim to have seen a giant shark in the waters of Baja California, nicknamed El Demonio Negro or The Black Demon. The movie explores themes such as environmental destruction, corporate greed, family bonds, and survival.
The movie begins with Paul Sturges, an oil company inspector, who takes his wife Ines and their two children, Audrey and Tommy, on a trip to Mexico to inspect an offshore oil rig called El Diamante. They arrive at a small town that is in ruins and hostile to outsiders, especially those who work for Nixon Oil, the company that owns the rig. Paul takes a boat to the rig, while his family stays at a food shack. He finds the rig in a terrible condition, with only two workers left, Chato and Junior, and their pet chihuahua. They tell him that the rig has been attacked by a monstrous shark that has killed most of the crew and caused an oil spill.
