if it was years in between creation, why did it say "the 2nd day" and "the 3rd day" etc? why not "the 2nd year"? or "40 years later"? God is very specific when there is time mentioned. in Genesis 6 to 8 we know the very day the rain fell and the waters stopped during the Flood. so there's no reason why each day of creation is random intervals apart.
