Yeah, it didn't exactly leave me feeling like a spring chicken either... Man, I loved those teenage soap operas back in the day! Dawson's Creek was good programming for its day, but the real tour de force sleeper was Felicity, which can still standup to a rewatch even today. I mean, Keri Russell at the epicenter of some angsty 90s college life melodrama? Umm, yes please, thank you and may I have another? 😊

Mark Hamill apparently did his cameo on the insistence of his sons as they were BIG fans of CLERKS (the HEY KIDS caption was added when someone, either Affleck or producer Scott Mosier, said that Hamill was so covered up, no one could tell it was him).
During the filming of his part, Kevin Smith's parents visited the set, and during the break, Hamill asks Kevin's mother Grace how it felt to see her son accomplishing such a big film. Grace just said, "Well, he was playing with you as an action figure when he was a kid and he's playing with you now as an action figure..............so really, not much has changed."

While in film school Kevin was told that filmmaking was not about making movies with his friends. But here's the thing. Kevin wanted to make movies with his friends and that's how this whole thing started. A lot of the talent in this film are just friends of Kevin Smith and thought it would be a fun time. Despite how crazy the movie is there is an actual coherent story behind everything. Kevin has always been a good writer and it's part of the reason he's been involved with many comic books, but whenever he decides to make a movie he usually casts his friends first and it's one of the bigger reasons why there's so much good chemistry in his films.

That's my exact thought behind Yoga Hosers.
If you go into that movie expecting a serious comedy, you are wrong.
It's the crew looking to have some fun.
In some insane coincidence, Kevin Smith's daughter and Johnny Depp's daughter became friends at their school.
I realize that they went to the same school for two years, but still.
So, Kevin asked Johnny to play a part in Tusk, and the rest is history.

He's also famous for this thing he does where if fans of his work want to work on his film/tv show sets, he'll happily put them to work, even if it's just as set assistants, giving them invaluable experience and a leg-up in the industry. He decided a long time ago that the "traditional model" of making movies simply wasn't going to be the way he does things. He's a great guy.

Jay was going through a hell of a time when he was making this film. He'd had a drug problem for years (the scene in Dogma where he's asleep in the bar wasn't a gag, he'd actually fallen asleep during filming so they shot the scene around him.) Kevin wrote a book, Silent Bob Speaks, the vast majority of which is a huge six-part essay detailing the journey they went through together to get him off drugs. The saddest part is that while Smith was editing this film, jay was outside the editing suite asking more money as he'd already spend his paycheque on heroin. Smith finally told Mewes he was going to give up on him unless he got his shit together. By the time Clerks 2 came around he'd been clean for a few years, and these days, he's happily married with 3 kids, and routinely fills out theatres on his stage tours.

      @laudanum669 2 місяці тому +4

After the filming for this movie ended Smith told Mewes point-blank to get sober or he would never speak to him again. So Jay eventually did and I'm glad, I can't imagine the two of them never working together again.

When I saw the title I immediately made a high-pitched squeal of joy. Yes, I've been waiting for this one! Also yes, hubbans needs to get educated on our beloved View Askew Dynamic Duo. :) Many of the cameos are from previous View Askew movies: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Shannon Doherty, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Jason Lee, Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, & Joey Lauren Adams. Others were because of their working relationships/friendships to returners, their relationship to Miramax (which produced the movie), or their previous working relationships with Kevin Smith himself (who has acted in other properties as well as directing and screenwriting). Kevin also set out to make a super-comedy ensemble cast movie like ones in the past, the kind of screw-ball comedies that are popular with us Gen Xers - movies like Smokey and the Bandit, Clue, Airplane, and Mel Brooks movies like Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs. And lots of people wanted to get in on that, including big names like Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Will Ferrell, and Jon Stewart (who is famous for his run on The Daily Show on Comedy Central, which if you haven't seen, I highly recommend, but it's also something like 15 seasons). Fun fact: this movie was originally meant to be the end of the View Askew universe, which is why Kevin wanted to "go out with a bang," and also why it has the cameo of God (Alanis Morissette) closing the View Askew book as the post-credit scene. So when Kevin decided to make Clerks 2, this is why it had the subtitle of "back to the well," as kind of sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek reference to that. And a not-so-fun fact: Jason Mews (Jay) was struggling heavily with drugs & alcohol during the production of this movie, which threatened to shut down production at any moment and made the production a huge headache for Kevin; and Kevin told him point-blank once the production wrapped that if Jason didn't get sober, Kevin would never speak to him again. That was the first kick-in-the-butt moment on Jason's road to recovery - and now he has a wife and two precious kids, and he and Kevin regularly do a podcast together (Jay and Silent Bob Get Old) with an audience that serves as a way for Jason to talk about stuff, be accountable, and remain sober (which he has been since 2010).

This is Morris Day and the Time, a band that was formed in the early 80s by Prince and appeared with him in the 1984 film PURPLE RAIN (which you MUST see); they had a couple of hits from that film, “The Bird,” and the song they’re performing here, “Jungle Love.” Kevin Smith was born in 1970, so he’s very much Generation X (like me; in fact we share the same birthday, although I’m older than him by 4 years), and the music from PURPLE RAIN was extremely popular amongst our generation, so it makes sense that these guys would be in this movie.

This was the first time since Jedi that Hamill and Fisher were in a film.
"you are the ones who are the ball lickers" was based on a story where one of Smith's friends yelled it after someone drove past and yelled at him.

I think the best explanation of what made everyone hop on this movie (beside the obvious good connections that his casting director had) is that Kevin Smith is one of Hollywood most genuinely nice guy, he had the luck to work with some of the great stars when they were starting out (like Ben Affleck), sure, but he's also sincerely excited to work with all the others even more renowned stars; he has the time of his life doing what he do and loves it while also showing genuine affection and praising everyone he works with, that's why everyone loves him and is willing to star in his movies even if it's just a small cameo.
A few years back (I think it was 2016 or 2017) he interviewed Stan Lee (with whom he had been a close friend since Mallrats) during one of the Comic Con, and he basically was the one doing all the talking for the whole interview, but the funny thing was that Stan Lee himself said that he usually had the tendency to talk over or overtake his interviewer but never with Kevin because he was always so nice and kept saying nice things about him in his funny (and sweary xD!) way that he never wanted to interrupt him even if he was the one that was supposed to be interviewed. To me that summarize perfectly why pretty much everyone loves him. :)

Have you seen the Jason Mewes/Kevin Smith rap battle? It's so funny because despite their trading insults and disses, you can see that these guys really love each other.

I've always said this about Kevin Smith: People will say he's not the best filmmaker, but that's because he's really a master storyteller. Movies are just one of the ways he tells stories. You can just let him talk and he'll weave you tale after tale.

The reason they were so many cameos is that view askew was such a cult hit that with each movie more and more people what to be in it. Also for a while Kevin Smith had a good deal of influence in the movie industry. For instance he was a major reason Ben Aflick and Matt Damon were allowed to make Good Will Hunting

no thanks, i went before I came here. but seriously, the scene with the girls avoiding the laser grid that ends when the blonde lands and farts - the whole set-up includes wirework and CGI - a lot of money spent just to do make a fart joke@@rmhartman

So this film holds a special place in my heart. First, it was the first Kevin Smith film I ever saw. Second, just like huben I had zero frame of reference for everything I was seeing. I immediately borrowed the other films from a friend, played catch up, and completely fell in love with the series.
Lastly, I saw the first showing opening day and there was a total of 6 or 7 ppl in the theater, including myself. As soon as the baby J&Bob morph in2 adults, a woman several rows in front of me got up and walked out before J could finish the song😆😆😆😆

"Justice" wearing glasses, is a reference to the term "blind justice". ..or maybe it was "Love is blind", as she is playing Jay's love interest. Kevin Smith (Silent Bob) mentioned in the behind the scenes, or the commentary.
