The 995 is one of my favorite range guns. I really enjoy hitting the bullseye at 50 yrds with the stock iron sights while the guy next to me with his take-down Ruger 9mm pcc is having a hard time, red dot and all. I shoot inexpensive Freedom Munitions reloads, never had a problem. Never. Over 2000 rounds through it. Never had an issue with the charging handle, the cheek pad or the trigger. No issues period. Comes with the tool to adjust the sights and disassemble it. Do it a couple times just for fun and it becomes a non issue. Cheap to buy, cheap to shoot, reliable, Very accurate, easy and as you pointed out, lots of fun to shoot. If you need to laugh because you think it's not cool to own or shoot a Hipoint then what are you doing reading this? You can buy a lot of ammo with the money saved buying the 995. That means more fun, better skills, more opportunity to teach others. BTW, I always let the other guys at the range shoot my 995. It's a small range, small club so we all know each other. So far everyone has enjoyed shooting it. Ugly? Thats very subjective. I think it looks intimidating and that is a big bonus for it's second intended use.
orcassailor...I 100% agree with you! Every time I pull that 995 out, people not familiar with them say: what the hell is that? My reply is always: I call it the Nightmare. They always wanna shoot it...they always have a smile afterwards. This carbine serves every purpose any novice, or intermediate shooter could have! It's list of pluses far outweigh the few minuses. I would love to know how many of these things Hi-Point has sold? Probably a million!
Hi Points are MINT ! Almost half the people I have let shoot mine have went out and bought one ! Mine runs like a sewing machine, and is fun and easy to shoot. Ugly , ...yes but a fun little carbine for barn yard use , or set up with a light, one hell of a home defense gun. I own two !
If you got shot with this gun would you be worried about materials that made it? I think not. If you were attempting to harm someone or posed a threat to them or family and came face to face with this gun, would you question it? I think not.
I guess you said it. "Nit picky". I can't even complain about my $300 hi point it's affordable. You get what you pay for but in this case you get more than what you pay for. 100% reliability.
The older stocks were super ergonomic, not all the possible bells and whistles mounts but mine would shoot the same hole all day at 50 yards with a cheap BSA red dot sight! Never should have sold it especially after finally getting another 9mm. That was then my only 9mm so selling it saved me from having one extra cartridge to purchase. I sold it to a "friend" for the possibility of buying it back some day and that turned out to be the hard lesson learned. Zero trust in doing so and I'll never sell another one to a "friend"!!! Compared the Keltec SUB 2000 the sights on the Hi Point are completely intuitive whereas the SUB 2000 you really have to plow your face into the line of sight to get on target. The Hi Point carbine is a great little weapon and I totally say GO FOR IT!
@@LigerMan95 They told me the same thing some time ago. A downside that was missed was that these carbines don't have an impressively high price tag, thereby depriving the owner of the chance to impress their friends.
I take mine to the range on a regular basis, and it's always the guys who never owned one or shot one, who laugh and bad mouth them . They shoot true, and once broken in, they run like a sewing machine ! I have had several people laugh while they shot my Hi Point carbine, and then go out and buy one ! Too bad you can't get one for $249 anymore. Laugh at them all you want, but Hi Point is getting the last laugh, because they can't make them fast enough to keep them on the shelves.
I take a lot of pride when i take it to the range, people never seen one up close, is not ugly, just very unique in every category. they say the pawnshops are full of hi-points . not true "good luck with that one". Im considering a acp45 and or a 10mm carbine with some ass behind it. not mine! 2020 in the meantime I got mine ! go get yours.
while it's true that the 9mm doesn't generate enough recoil to need a recoil pad it also doesn't need a muzzle break for the same reason. You really can't get a better value for the money and perhaps it's better than some that cost more. In today's world of cheap throwaway import junk a true American made value is "priceless." While it is crude in respects everything about it works as it should. How many of us buy something that makes promises and then falls short. This exceeds expectations. Every reviewer calls it ugly but so are some of us that shoot it. Good review tho.
I purchased one a few months ago. Have only shot it once. Used American eagle FMJ’s and the had a lot of failure to eject. Will try running a different ammo through it before I pass judgement.

I really appreciate this review. I've been looking into these for a while. And I really have been considering buying one. And I'm going to buy one this week on my next day off. You're right, they are made of a cheap material. Its not polymer. Its ABS plastic if I'm correct, which doesn't feel durable, and isn't as durable as polymer, but its more durable than it feels. And the thin gauge stamped steel is also a big minus. But, its a fun, seemingly reliable gun that ANYONE can afford. Hi point isn't known for having pretty guns. They're big and fucking ugly 😂 but this is the first HONEST review I've come across, pointing out the goods and bads in an apparent non biased manner.
Bought my 9mm carbine brand new at 180$ with a box of Winchester ball ammo thrown in.5 years ago. Been a live aboard on a sailboat and have never had a rust issue or a failure. Hangs up in my wet storage locker waiting to come out and shoot. Great lil plinker

Called customer service 2 wks later got through 930am told them what I did( my fault) checked serial number and sent 2 updated springs and firing pins AT NO COST to me. I now own 3 995s. Love it as much as my ar9.
I noticed you had a scope mounted over the iron sights, can you give me some guidance on how that is done. I bought a tubeless "scope" and would like to leave the iron sights in place, I wonder how I could raise the scope, and not have to take the iron sights off. This would allow me to sight the iron in at 50 yards, and the scope in at 100 to 200 yards. I have been told a 9 MM is not good for 200, but that was by a gun snob. FYI, I just received the rifle yesterday, and the last gun shop in our little town closed a week ago. m getting a Ruger 10-22 for my wife in a 2 weeks, should I save the tubeless for her and get a 4 power scope.
You can remove the 3 screws on the butt and take a small spacer out and then push the butt all the way in and put screws back in and it wont have gap or spring anymore, I did it 10 mins after purchasing mine
Other than the ""complex" fieldstripping... which I hate... I like it a lot!!! It shoots great, it eats anything you load on it and I even find her good looking! So, thumbs up!
If you don’t want the spring recoil stock remove the screws then remove the butt pad piece, then remove the springs push the pad flush and re install screws.Holds tight with no movement.Peace
My high point 995 is freaking awesome down range products has some really cool aftermarket products for this gun one being the charging handle, they have different sizes colors. And High point has a really nice cheek pad that sticks right on and makes a big difference in being comfortable when shooting. I just don't understand why a lot of people call this gun ugly, I so happen to think it is a great looking rough tough and rugged looking gun It's a freaking gun. I also hate how the freaking gun snobs bad mouth this gun, the only reason they do is all hear say, pick it up and shoot it makes all the difference in the world. All I know is some of my more expensive guns jam up, where I have never had any issues with my 995
Military grade is made to certain specifications at the most reasonable “price “. Not the lowest bidder. Because even the Rats in Washington know that you get what you pay for. Also the gear seems cheap because you’re the end user. Not some doctor or senator going to Africa. That being said when they do they grab surplus gear…
No one address's the lefty problem as the shooting finger rides over the mag release button and can accidentally drop the mag with the finger. Not wise if life depends upon the rifle. What kind of remedy can be had for this?
Ok, appreciate that! Then you'll know I had the same experience as you in regard to jams. If that was the only consideration I'd say there are no downsides, but here we are.
Not yet! I know it does address some of my complaints, it's just they cost almost what I paid for the whole gun and it feels weird having over $500 in a HiPoint LOL
These are very reliable guns and very accurate. Who cares what it looks like? I would bet that not one of the haters would want to be on the receiving end of one...
What's that saying about first impressions? A lot of people will be turned off by something that looks and feels cheap, especially if that thing needs to be consistent and reliable. Most people only have an eyes on or brief hands on with one of these, and I'm pretty sure my conclusion in this very video is that in spite of its shortcomings in style and feel, it works well and is fun to shoot. - Jay
The ape gun. Its cheap, reliable, and accurate. But it does have a lot of baggage. I needed a cheap beater vehicle gun to give me more range (100 yards) than a pistol pop gun so if it gets stolen or impounded I won't cry over it. Its a $250 gun and it is what it is. Its heavy at about six or seven pounds. To make the gun better than it was out of the box I had to do a little polish for a slight hump on the feed ramp, a DIY trigger job of polishing and grease packing, removal of the rail and rail stub under the fore stock so as to be able to grip the fore stock, change the sling to the left side from the right, and mag spring bend jobs as the bullets tended to nose dive in the mags. I am still debating keeping or removing the butt stock recoil system. On one hand with the springs in the stock slaps the cheek and it can pinch between the plate and stock but on the other hand without the springs the recoil is going to be hard (not the cartridge recoil but the blow back heavy pot metal slide bolt) unless held very tight in to the shoulder. For now I am leaving it in. I added an elastic cartridge holder sleeve to the butt stock to cushion the cheek and hold spare mags after opening up some of the elastic cartridge keepers. Now at least its better than it was and I didn't spend more on aftermarket accessories other than the elastic sleeve.
I would assume not, unless someone who knows more than me says otherwise. I came here to say that the 9mm and .380 hi point carbines are not interchangeable with pistol mags, but the .40 and .45 are, according to the website.
Its the worst pos in m arsenal but i still like it for some reason. I got it with the cx4 clone stock with modified magpul 20 rnd mags. I got it for only about 200 but have about 2 more in upgrades. Try to get 400 out of one lol. Switching to a metal vs the plastic mag release/catch is a major reliability fix! It is a pain to take apart to clean but it keeps it going.
Allllll these years since the AW ban went away and this thing is still a single stack taking 10 round mags. I would never even consider it when limited like that, and I've had the chance to buy used ones super cheap. They would sell WAY more if they updated the design, and it wouldn't be that hard to open up the magwell a bit and mod it to take a double stack mag, so I'll never understand why they don't do it. Those extended mags are a joke...Single stack mags have feeding issues when you try to go beyond ten rounds or so, and I could never even get a ten rounder to be fully reliable in my 9mm Hi Point handgun. I tried the feed lip mods you see on the net and even sent it back to them twice, and only the 8 round mags were ever 100% reliable.
Their philosophy is they want to be able to sell cheap weapons to all. So the 10 round design is intentional so they can sell in states like California and new York. Or in case another federal ban comes along.
I doubt very seriously, a knucklehead that wants to do you and yours harm, will care if he's being tagged by a "cheap" Hi-Point or a High Dollar weapon. I can just see a knucklehead telling paramedics "Man! He shot me with a damn Hi-Point", as he clings to life.
I have one of these 9mm carb. is not a bad gun, it takes a bit to break it in . once past that point it is very deadly, and accurate . 50 times better than a hand gun. with lots of fun.
How is it ugly? you guys are nuts, it has a ton of picatinny rail, MOST of them have a threaded barrel and it shoots accurately for a very cheap price so what's to complain?
I am a little late, but I would like to say. Do not buy Pro Mag extended mags for this gun. They can damage the gun, and if this happens, it will VOID the gun's warranty.
These Hi-Points are pretty decent to shoot for fun, unfortunately it was my first PCC experience. I wouldn't call it "ugly", but it is probably the cheapest looking gun I've ever laid eyes on in real life.
I know what I'm about to say is considered an unholy sin amongst the firearms community. Absolutely heracy i tell you. But the truth is the truth, and i must speak it! I like the appearance of this here yeet cannon carbine...
Big, ugly, reliable, rugged, and cheaper where's the down fall. Sounds like an amazing carbine, I really don't want a "pretty" weapon I want it to be big and mean.
they arent handsome for sure......but damn are they fun! reliable as hell too , the promags for this suck tho. never any issues with the redball or factory mags .
I'd rather just carry extra mags, than have that goofy extended pos hanging down so far. HP needs to source a drum mag for the gun, and I bet they'd double their sales, or better. Otherwise, it looks noice.
I think it's kinda ugly cool looking I remember years ago could buy them new for like 200 bucks its def not high end but I always thought for 200 new gun wasn't terrible option but just my opinion

Ugly is subjective, and it's an opinion, but not an uncommon one.
orcassailor...I 100% agree with you!
I own two !
Way better than the kel tec sub 2000 in my honest opinion.
Fact is IF you know what you're doing and can afford to change some things it's PERFECTLY fine
i like my hi-points, thanks
I like mine just fine too, and you're welcome. - Jay
Yep, hipoint good company, a few small screws in the handle vibrated out on an old used unit. Hipoint sent a few free of charge.
I heard rumors theyre coming out with an updated double stack version later this year around the time the new pistols do.
That would be a miracle
I'd buy two
I wanted to get the 10mm one but, redball has apparently decided that they will never make a 20rd mag for, that gun. 10rds is just not enough.
I emailed Redball and they said they are making an extended magazine for the 10mm carbine
@@LigerMan95 They told me the same thing some time ago. I don't know how long it takes to develop a firearm magazine but, I first contacted them around the same time HP's 10mm carbine was first announced. I've been waiting since then. My getting one of, these guns is entirely dependent on the existence of, a higher capacity [RELIABLE] magazine.
Just grab two tens and some duct tape...BINGO
@@yuibot5998 Uh huh yea. Hardy har har. I don't live in California or Canada so, I don't want to live with their weirdness. Besides I think superglue would work better for that, than tape.
I friggin ❤️ My 995.
I've been trying to find a used one for months, there aren't any so I'm buying a new one.
while it's true that the 9mm doesn't generate enough recoil to need a recoil pad it also doesn't need a muzzle break for the same reason.
$280? Jesus Christ. I'm seeing them now for at least $450. I wish I had bout one back then
@PmMidnight....12/2/21...I got mine New out the Door Florida 375.00.....They were marking up guns after I picked this up....Inflation gonna be bad...glad i got this when I did!😀
It's cheap, it's affordable, it's work and it's shoot. I prefer having a hi point rather than having none.
Thank you!
I actually like the way it looks....it looks rugged and tactical to me.
Have 1st generation 995 lost firing pin spring, called during covid shutdown . Closed. Called customer service 2 wks later got through 930am told them what I did( my fault) checked serial number and sent 2 updated springs and firing pins AT NO COST to me. I now own 3 995s. Love it as much as my ar9.
I can’t get over the super soaker look.
It's just a High cantilever mount. - Jay
@@MishacoOBA Thank you, I knew there was a way to make it work.
Just shooting a sand pile is a little weird, but to each their own....
you dont want military grade, ask CIF,if it shoots its good
Best fun you will ever have.
You must be doing it wrong
You can remove the 3 screws on the butt and take a small spacer out and then push the butt all the way in and put screws back in and it wont have gap or spring anymore, I did it 10 mins after purchasing mine
Other than the ""complex" fieldstripping... which I hate... I like it a lot!!! It shoots great, it eats anything you load on it and I even find her good looking! So, thumbs up!
If you don’t want the spring recoil stock remove the screws then remove the butt pad piece, then remove the springs push the pad flush and re install screws.Holds tight with no movement.Peace
We understand , if you show you like it to much the gun snobs will pick on you .
Not really. Only 2 minutes of a 9+ minute video were about things I don't like about it. - Jay
All I know is some of my more expensive guns jam up, where I have never had any issues with my 995
'Forever uncleeeaaannn.....' (me after shooting the 995)
Hahahaha 🤣
Lol
Cleaned mine and learned the hard way. A dry dirty hi point is a happy hi point. Never misfired since
Can you put a flash light on it? If so where can I get one??
"Military grade" = lowest bidder.
As a veteran I can tell you all the crap in the army is built cheap.
Sorry, but no. "Military grade" doesn't only, or in every case, mean lowest bidder.
Remember the ww2 grease gun. Cheap but worked. I dont buy pretty tools, i buy tools that work. I'd sure buy one
No one address's the lefty problem as the shooting finger rides over the mag release button and can accidentally drop the mag with the finger. Not wise if life depends upon the rifle. What kind of remedy can be had for this?
Down sides???? I own one and love it!! It's never miss fired or jammed.
Did you watch the whole video or stop to comment as soon as I said there were downsides? - Jay
@@MishacoOBA I watched the whole thing.
Ok, appreciate that! Then you'll know I had the same experience as you in regard to jams. If that was the only consideration I'd say there are no downsides, but here we are.
Hey have you tried this gun with the Bullpup stock...Does it change your opinion?
Not yet! I know it does address some of my complaints, it's just they cost almost what I paid for the whole gun and it feels weird having over $500 in a HiPoint LOL
They make a kit to chop off the stock and attach a collapsible stock. I’ve seen a few reviews and they seem to like it better.
Nice video, other than it is tough to tell what you are shooting at. Looks like you're shooting randomly at sand, at least from my phone screen.
why was the barrel so difficult to thread, did he say?
I think it had something to do with it being a two-piece barrel but I'm not sure of the specifics. Misha may remember, hopefully he'll chime in. - Jay
Because there's no way to pull it from its "trunnion" to put in a lathe. That and it is a 2 piece design and the metal used everywhere isn't 'great.'
I see. Thank you guys for responding.
They actually created a problem attempting to solve a problem that doesn’t exist 😂😂
Can someone tell me if a magazine from another weapon is valid for hi-point 995 TS?
What optic and mount do you have on this?
What optics is that 😳 🤔
I like the rope on stock ,mine hurts my face when shoot mine
Hi point 9mm Carbines are very good I know of people who have them and never had a issue... 185gr 9mm Ammo is what is used
Allllll these years since the AW ban went away and this thing is still a single stack taking 10 round mags.
Allegedly there's a double stack version coming along with their double stack pistol they showed at shot
@@DevReaper Good news, they should have done that over ten years ago!
Their philosophy is they want to be able to sell cheap weapons to all. So the 10 round design is intentional so they can sell in states like California and new York. Or in case another federal ban comes along.
I love the bowed front pic rail!! Was that extra??
No it came factory! It's for your Pinty Tactical Operator Laser Flashlight Bipod Combo, $10 on Wish. - Jay
Mishaco haha I do get the whole deal on it being cheap etc but I had to give you hard time!! Thanks for vid 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
i could never defend my kids with an ugly gun
I doubt very seriously, a knucklehead that wants to do you and yours harm, will care if he's being tagged by a "cheap" Hi-Point or a High Dollar weapon. I can just see a knucklehead telling paramedics "Man! He shot me with a damn Hi-Point", as he clings to life.
Say what you want, but hipoint has shown itself an excellent company.
I have one of these 9mm carb. is not a bad gun, it takes a bit to break it in . once past that point it is very deadly, and accurate . 50 times better than a hand gun. with lots of fun.
Who cares how it looks ? An ugly girl will put out faster than a pretty one !
How is it ugly? you guys are nuts, it has a ton of picatinny rail, MOST of them have a threaded barrel and it shoots accurately for a very cheap price so what's to complain?
Now the high points of the Hi-Point. LOL!!!
Recommended by Eric Harris
For the price it’s worth it without a doubt. Kel-Tec isn’t far off but still not as cheap as hi-poiny
So you would rather have a kel tec sub 2k then the hi point carbine??
you should have at least shot it on paper to see if it is accurate
You are the only 1 that has set anything that negative about this firearm. Obviously it's been from living in that in bred state of yours ll!
Looks good for me for a first timer
I would have wound the Paracord around the butt springs disabling them
That would be a fine militia weapon
I am a little late, but I would like to say. Do not buy Pro Mag extended mags for this gun. They can damage the gun, and if this happens, it will VOID the gun's warranty.
Bought mine with a scope for 125
Now That is what they are worth, 125 to 175
@@mikeg4247 best 125 I have ever spent
These Hi-Points are pretty decent to shoot for fun, unfortunately it was my first PCC experience.
I wouldn't call it "ugly", but it is probably the cheapest looking gun I've ever laid eyes on in real life.
Oh, it's most definitely ugly! Lol
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
Idk why ppl think anything hi point related is going to be spectacular structure wise lol
I live in California bro I have to work with what I got lol
they arent handsome for sure......but damn are they fun! reliable as hell too , the promags for this suck tho. never any issues with the redball or factory mags .
Promags void the warranty ...
Needs to be in a pistol as well.
Sell it to accept a brace. And sell coffin mags for it .
It's definitely not a CZ scorpion but hey,,,, it's an American made tank that is reliable and accurate.
My brother had one back in the early 2000s and the gun literally was falling apart while shooting. Its was a good laugh.
How it fall apart
And this one time, at band camp
i would complain about canadas gun laws but were to poor to buy a gun anyway
My ruger carbine has had more failures than my hipoint. Hipoint 0 failures ruger a ton.
What's the hardest part of owning a highpoint carbine.........
Telling you friends and family you are gay!
Kidding it's a fun affordable option.
I think it would be easier to come out to most of my friends than telling them I paid money for a Hi-Point. :) - Jay
