  • An amazing afternoon spent at Liverpool Lime Street station which is the western terminus of the West Coast Mainline where we see plenty of services from London Northwestern Railway, Avanti West Coast, Northern, Transpennine Express, East Midlands Railway and Transport For Wales.
    Liverpool Lime Street was built by the Liverpool and Manchester Railway in 1833 once they realised that they needed a new station located more central to the city.
    It only took six years after opening for more work to be carried out on the station because of the amount of people coming through. New platforms were built and the existing ones lengthened to allow more trains to come into the platforms.
    In 1867 the station went through further work in order to cope with the growing demands. One of the biggest changes was to the arched train shed which still stands to this day, the train shed was the first in the world to be made with iron throughout its structure. Liverpool Also played a vital role in the development of mail trains with the first post office train despatched from this station. This was done when the LMS came into existence.
    When British Rail entered the scene Liverpool Lime street was under the control of the London Midland region region of the group, a new signal box was commissioned in 1948 to control the comings and goings from the station and out into the country. This signal box would remain in use for around 70 years and was to be one of the last lever framed boxes in use of the mainline before it was finally laid to rest in 2017. In 1955 the station concourse was given a make over because of the West Coast Mainline modernisation taking place across the entire line from London up to Liverpool. It wasn't until 1965 until the first intercity service left Liverpool on a regular service to the capital.
    The next major engineering works to be undertaken at the station was the introduction of a suburban rail network running around Liverpool and the surrounding areas, this was to be known as Merseyrail and would result in the closure and demolition of 4 different stations which would result in Liverpool Lime Street being the sole terminus station which meant way more people would be coming through its doors.
    Every other bit of work taking place has been modernising the platforms for new trains.
    My next station is Edinburgh Waverley.
    You can now find me on Facebook through the group Tornado922, there you will find regular updates, videos and photos from all of my goings on throughout 2020.

    Is it me or do I love the Tunnel structure of Liverpool Lime street? It has a very medieval tone and fantasy-like feel to it!! Now this station is my "Micheledever" ! It is quirky (yes it is!! 😁) and Very Unique. This station is identical to Birmingham New Street (ignoring the fact that both have the prefix as the region and the suffix with street, but with Lime Street being rather interesting) in terms of Platform layout and infrastructure (too an extent) but Lime street looks Medieval like but very brilliant. I bet when you rode on the nude 350, you must have observed the beauty of Liverpool tunnels (the open sections).

    This station is epic, such a great balance of old and new elements. Pure, steady action and I love the bend into the tunnels. That roof is a work of art and the Trains were beautiful. Glad I was able to catch this fresh at 9:37am EST a great start to the day. Thanks ;}

    Fantastic video yet again from the most amazing station in the UK. Best of all, obviously, were the two mighty 68s. The 195s and 331s really are stylish units, except for the squeaky brakes Lol. I will put my vote in, saying yes, for a few more videos from Liverpool Lime Street. My dream year for filming a Trains At series would be to go to stations where you would be guaranteed to see 68s. Keep safe, regards Gary.

    There seem to be a lot of 153s being tagged onto the Norwich-Liverpools recently. I believe (I’m sure I’ll get slated for being wrong), as they are not PRM compliant they have to run with a 156 or 158 so they have had to be taken off routes like Derby-Crewe, or Peterborough-Lincoln in favor of a single PRM compliant unit and then used to form 3 and 4 car services on routes like this one

    • @alanmolyneux5957
      @alanmolyneux5957 4 роки тому +1

      The Liverpool - Norwich services are supposed to be a pair of 158's but 156's and 153's have become quite common and you may be correct in what you say, I'm not sure. At least they tend to get detached/attached at Nottingham. Imagine spending 5.5 hours on a 153 travelling to Norwich!

    • @agent_605
      @agent_605 4 роки тому

      Alan Molyneux 156s are definitely common, 153s were usually very rare but not unheard of, although nowadays I imagine that’s changed with PRM regulations

    Hi mate that was a good video. My only comment on the trans pennine set is it looks nice and the class 68s are great lots of power. But I think when you see the other end of the 802 set there is something missing. Ideally have another class 68 instead of the end piece of the 802. Like the sets of class 90\91s from norwich to London Piccadilly sadly going they will be missed like the class 43 s. Ow well happy days take care be safe have a beer to warm yourself up have a good one.Boldeagle.

      195s/196s/197s have the same base engines as 172s (13L MTU 6H Series 1800), just with different power ratings and emissions equipment. they also have similar 6-speed ZF EcoLife Rail gearboxes which is why they sound like 172s on the move.
      funnily enough, the engine idle rpm is set higher like a 168/170/171 rather than lower like a 172.

      I'm not to sure as to where you heard that information but I can assure you that spotters aren't banned from Liverpool Lime Street. Just let the station staff know what you are doing and you will be absolutely fine. Thanks for the recommendations I will look into them

    I have to agree Tornado922, Class 68's with the mk5 carriage sets look amazing and even purring the sound of that Big Cat is incredible. Here's a link to some stats I found. Enjoy. www.directrailservices.com/resize/NE%204%20Brochures/DRS%20Class%2068%20Pres%20Final%20s.pdf

      Thanks very much, I really enjoyed my time here. It was a massive shame that the car needed attention but unfortunately it's beyond my control
