DIVING in Koh Tao, PADI Course | Part Two - Day 70

DAY TWO of our PADI Diving Course and we completed our first open water dive in the ocean!!! I can't even begin to explain how nervous I was about this. After spending all night working on our theory and doing the tests, by the next morning, I was fully convinced that I wasn't going to be able to do this. Austin kept trying to encourage me but I was so nervous I couldn't even think properly. All I could think of was that I was really going to be going 12 meters deep underwater!
The day started with discussing the plans for the day and going more in-depth about the dive we were doing etc. We then had to complete some more theory before meeting our instructor and group at the pier at around midday. We swallowed down some sea-sickness medication and then headed onto the boat to start making our way out to our first dive site. I was visibly shaking by this point hahaha. After going through one final talk about the dive, we then went to the bottom of the boat to start setting up our equipment like we were taught in the training yesterday. THEN WE WENT ON OUR FIRST-EVER SEA DIVE!
This was honestly an experience I will never forget. I will never forget how scared I was and how uncomfortable that first dive was for me. As we were still training, we had to display all of the skills that we had learned in the pool the day before, but this time in the ocean. 12 meters deep... Once the dive was complete I wasn't feeling the most confident. Austin on the other hand had an absolute blast. He took to diving like a fish in water! However, once we completed the second dive after a well-deserved break, my confidence was definitely improving. I for sure, felt more prepared for the dives the next day. As for why we didn't film underwater on these dives, we were technically still training and so it would have been a struggle to handle that and filming with the GOPRO. If you want to see us underwater, we did tons of filming on our third and final day of the course. That video will be up soon!
