Very cool very cool - you are one of the few to pick up on our combat/movement sandbox elements and physics-based interactions. Some wild stuff happens when it all adds up :)
Give Necrit the access to Alpha (or actually don't because I want him to cover this game as the development progresses)
@@jankozak2984It's not that hard to access to Alpha though, I think Necrit hasn't signed up yet or talked about it overall.
This shit looks like the batlle pass
Very interesting project and looking forward to it, I hope when the game released this game can be played in ALL platform (PC, Console and if necessary on mobile) so that everyone can play this game even to the people who cannot afford PC.
Pls pls pls pls pls allow controller & mouse scheme, stick movement + mouse aim is super underutilized, but so ergonomic
Excited to see this one, the "rough" state they shown already looked really fun, bet when they launch a beta it will be awesome.
It’s fun but has some performance issues and can drop to below 15 fps. They hopefully work it out
Heroes of the Storm
@@nickolausalston6915 Well... in the video the release they did say, pre-pre-pre-pre-alpha, so i am not deluding myself that there isn't many kinks to iron out still.
But if that is that many pre alpha... when it hits beta it will be something.
@@Alacaelum yeah. i'm not saying its a bad thing. i look forward to it
@@kruk_7279 That's a moba. It's more like a BR than a moba.
It's really fun to see that Necrit is discovering that Videogames exist and are a thing because LoL had a content drought on lore. Riot pierced his bubble on a really weird way.
I really didn't expect so many people would agree with me on that... Ahahahaha
Riot and WoW*. It's kinda ehh to listen when he talks about Riot's MMO, cause it's like WoW is the only MMO to exist ever and other games in the genre don't do things differently. Wowie, not having alliance and horde in MMORPG? What is that, never heard of it!
@@ilucasz 199 .... and i turned it into 200 likes
@@a.b.s-studios Thanks dude ahahahaha
@@animagkrasver9872 Yeah, he gives some lines like that sometimes. He also did that when talking about Genshin: "It had some of the best narrative moments I've ever seen!" --> Just another regular JRPG story that doesn't do much in particular.
I've played in two playtests and it is SO FUN. Can't wait for everybody to see more.
Is it? Im kinda scared since the game literally looks like its gonna die in 2 weeks, but hopefully its just me overreacting
@@name1674 how can you get that from a pre alpha trailer and no time with the game yourself? Lmao
@@jomorazero ive played multiple games with the similar artstyle and hype only for it to die within 2 weeks, some also said the same thing as me, but im probably just overreacting
@@name1674Its more fun than fangs
@@name1674 well me and my friends stayed up till 6 am so we could paly the playtests. its DEFINITELY fun, if ur sick of leagues direction this is incredibly nice and fresh.
I think it would be really fun if you made a video regarding many of the competing battle arenas in beta on the market right now. For examples, in addition to Project Loki, there are also two other great mobalites called Fangs and Bapbap
Fangs is awful. Bapbap is fun!
I love BAPBAP
Reminder that FANGs has LoL & Valorant devs working behind it...Steve Feak AKA Guinsoo AKA the reason Guinsoo's Rageblade is named
Wonder why Necrit didn't mention these guys
One currently in early development is called Syndicate of Souls.
@@the_specialist2051 indeed and it is utter garbage with no playerbase whatsoever.
No shot, me and my friends were just talking about trying this game out when it comes out! That's insane that it's developed by former Riot devs haha
Didnt League come from former Dota devs too?
yes?
indeed it did
Nahh MOBA devs are like matryoshkas 🤣
Josh Smith, the art director, made some of my favorite splashes from the good old days, and he is bringing alot of his personal style to the game, love seeing that.
At this point anything created by Riot Games Employees is amazing except League of Legends. What an irony
I love how people keep saying this but they dont play those game for long term anyways
People are coping but league is actually a good game, if not the game would dies years ago, but yeah the playerbase needs therapy.
@@rexe30k Because League, is a really good, well crafted game.
HOWEVER; the League community ruins it, the endless toxicity is just cringe and makes over 70% of games a flame war, where nobody is enjoying it. Power-creep is also ruining it slowly but they are "trying" to fix that by making everyone one shot so who knows. But if you just look at it stylistically and ignore balancing and just play to have fun, it is a really good game.
@@rexe30k good game when u play it casually maybe ye
@@rexe30k good game or not doesnt matter anymore , people nowadays only jump on league or dota for moba game , mobile MOBA games only for degenerated kids in south east asia and poor countries like mine . Moba genre is dead , league and dota are becoming their own genre in gaming
Another rather big name on theorycraft at least for me as a lor player is andrew yip who was game director for LoR when it released. Their dev team looks really stacked so im kinda excited to see how loki turns out. Hopefully they are gonna do some playtests on eu aswell soon. I would love to try it out!
Skyen also has some…interesting info regarding rioters leaving due to management placing everything (lore, progression, you name it) under the entertainment department following arcane’s success…
pretty sure the mmo will have lots of lore and story since the Ruination book writer is writing the story for the mmo
Looks like a interesting game, can’t wait to try playing it!
Game aside though, the map looks amazing and all the art is beautiful. Can’t quite put my finger on it but there’s just something about it
It reminds me of dota a lot love the art style of that game
Never played Dota but just looked it up and you’re absolutely right. Both look amazing!
@@asefnirumand2355just got into the alpha! Cant wait!
I so fucking want the battle arena genre to be "the next viral game genre". Battlerite was easily one of my favorite games of all time, and i've been just waiting for years for some studio to give us a battle arena game that sticks and develops a playerbase bigger than a few hundred people
really excited to see when this releases, looks like it might scratch my itch for MOBAs
What I think is great, from the background gameplay, is that it looks very casual yet competitive at the same time. There is a lot of skill expression avaliable, but you do not need thousands of hours to win or preform.
I played this in alpha in late 2021 and I have to say, if there is one game that can revolutionize the mobe genre, it’s this one.
Well Battlerite was not the First Multiplayer Arena Game. There was a Game called Bloodline Champions that was out over 10 years ago. Just wann make things clear here. But besides that good video!
I had the opportunity to playtest this game last month! Super fun, mechanics were super smooth. Little to no bugs in my experience, got quite a few hours in. Communication with developers was great, and the game, for being in pre-alpha, was already very fleshed out. Looking foward to playing more soon, definitely sign up for the playtest!
Definitely hyped for this, seems like they bring a lot of new ideas.
Been trying out the 1.0 of Eternal return recently, I think they did the battle royale moba style in a very clever way, you should check it out.
i really got hit with the "how is it a moba it uses wasd?" and was like.... "but league does that" because i completely forgot i remapped my keys day 1 and have almost never thought about qwer since (the soul fighter event confused the hell out of me for longer than i care to admit before i realized i was pressing the wrong buttons)
I lost it when you scroll on the names, i thought it was only going to be around 10 💀
3:50 not correct. bloodline champion did it before battlerite and you could argue savage 2 did it before them.
very common in IT world and I guess gaming for people to jump to up and comming companies. In riot these people are likely set in their position, but in a new company, they likely have a higher position with the ability to climb. Can't blame the ex-rioters to move on. Great stuff all around.
as a person who isn't comfortable with mouse controls for league this video is a gem. Thanks Necrit
I’m really excited for this to come out, I loved Battlerite so much and seeing something similar in the works is really exciting
The first ones to do the arena style moba were the ones that did Battlerite, but the OG game version was Bloodline Champions
I love playing mobas and wish there was a true lol competent so that Riot would actually be presured to make actual improvements instead of just skins and esports
Thank you! Developers need to make a game just FUN!
4 People team is a great design. We've always struggled to find a 5th one to play :D.
I had not heard about this game, but it looks very interesting and is definitely something I will check out as I love MOBAs.
If you haven't already, you should take a look at Eternal Return, its a MOBA Battle Royal that has been in Early access for a while now, but had its full release late last month.
It's a lot of fun and def deserves more attention.
I like the vibe of the stretchy shotgun guy
I just signed up for the play test a few days ago. Hoping I can take part, looks really fun!
There is also Fangs, Guinsoo is there for example
I was able to play in the playtest last week! Very cool game, but I like playing team co-op games with my friends so I will wait for its official release :) I loved the character uniqueness
There are also some really really cool ultimate combos! I had a game where me and my team were hiding to sneak attack the last team left, and then we got full combo'd into instant death we all laughed it off and thought it was crazy! Really really excited for people to see the game
Looks like a cool game. If I hypothetically got into a playtest a while back I would be telling you that it was fun and I was excited to see how much progress has been made. But I’m not saying that.
Bloodline Champions was the first to give this genre a try. Then came Battlerite.
And inbetween them Dead Island Epidemic.. that game was a ride 😅
I’m so glad you found out about Project Loki! It’s such a fun game and I have a blast every time I get a chance to play.
I’m one of the original playtesters (for over 2+ years now) and have seen the game evolve so much over the years. It’s genuinely an amazing game and I hope to see you out on the battlefield at some point Necrit, and be prepared to get addicted like the rest of us!
Looks very fun
How are you able to play test it ?
Physics mechanics look really cool but other than that Eternal Return just seems more fun to me
I've always preferred "Hero Arenas" to "Aeon of Strife" maps.. So I'm glad we're getting MOBAs like this or League's Arena mode. I just wish there was more 1v1 action; I hate teams.
It's all a cycle. League was created by devs/mod creators who helped Icefrog with the original DotA mod for Warcraft 3, and now former Riot employees are going off to make a moba of their own.
Forgot about evercore heros. also made by some ex riot.
Although its not a "moba" but it is played similarly to league but in a PvE way.
i hope battlerite devs see whats happening in the genre and revive the game
Oh my fucking god I miss battlerite and battlerite royale
@@hollowcloplover9539I miss Battlerite so so much but the Royale can stay dead. It was the reason why Battlerite completely died in the first place and no matter how good it is I still can't bring myself to like it.
They are busy with V Rising, and it turned out to be a really good game
@@ChubbyChoncc They need to spruce up the original and market it right this time
I wonder how long Jon was recruiting members at Riot before they all left.
Noo why did you make me remember of Battlerite, the wound has not healed yet
League is an amazing game, amazing work by riot on the updates, eSports scene, world building and every other aspect. That's why it keeps being a top game..
It's been 10+ years already, and people still complain about a game that stood the test of time (and at the top )
Amazing is overvaluing it.
Its free and accessible, thats what keeps it going.
It beats the competition with money, not with better game mechanics or ”story”. About lore, Leagues one has been retconned thrice over already if my memory serves.
Esports scene is massive, yes, but also exploitive. Just look at the state of LCS for example.
Edit: for me personally, its social gaming. Friends play it, I play with them, reluctantly. As soon as they get excited for something else, we play other games.
@@Z3ZP No. Lots of people like me stick with it even when friends go away because there's nothing else on the market other than Dota and never will be, because nobody will dare try anymore.
Being retconned so often is a strength of League's because they improve whatever weaknesses the story has. Characters that got nothing behind them suddenly get full story. This approach is so successful that people get so attached to characters that they buy skins in droves even though they already got skins in the dozens.
I've never seen a game so balanced that every character and strategy available out of hundreds is very near 50% winrate. The amount of effort to uphold competitive integrity is so massive that regular people are able to forgo fun in some matches and play for clout. The mechanics are so extremely developed that you got 31 competitive tiers and a massive gulf in ability between those higher tiers.
Even though it's so extremely competitive, casuals stick with it too, so it must still be fun. Being free and accessible just doesn't cut it. The amount of games that are free and accessible and still failed is impossible to count... You cannot overstate the success of League. "Amazing" undersells..
former dota devs: “its going to happen again”
At this point necrit is becoming a bloodhound for former rioters who want to start anew. They cant escape from him 😂😂😂
This looks just like Battlerite Royal, with all the wacky ways to engage and escape and playing with vision
It actually means a lot since now we know that the game is under good care and talent. Also dare I say, new/small companies tend to release better, or more fun should I say, games as they are not ALL about money. For example, battle bit remastered, Rust, PoE, and most recently Baulders Gate 3, made by companies that are not as known as Blizzard, Riot, Ubisoft, etc.
Hope the game turns out to be fun and smooth :)
BloodLine Champions crawled so that Battlerite could walk so that Project Loki could run.
mechanics like battlerite? sold
We don't think our champions have overloaded kits overall
Oh wow, perhaps we were too hard on riot regarding the cinematic, that many peeps quit?
Honestly I think the reason Battlerite died WAS because it had too much variety. They kept trying to push other modes and even made a whole battle royale to hop on the band wagon and they stopped putting resources into making new characters or shaking up the core mode people played. The most fun mode to me was the one that was basically Gigantic. Both teams have a Titan and you gotta do some mechanic to make it vulnerable and do damage to while you can and first to kill it wins. But sadly their ambition to stray from the core game killed them. This game looks awesome though and I can’t wait!
this one, just might reignite my light for gaming. with these people on this project, we may get something gaming has needed for a long time
that character with a hammer and projected shield that can either hold it up or swing it around and seems to have an ability that slams it into the ground kind of seems like Reinhardt from overwatch ngl
Battlerite Royale with Physics 💀
PS: I feel like the skill ceiling would be too high for a new player to get used to.
My only issue with these games. It is very hard to play them casually so i hope they can stand out in this regard
This game is unironically really fun, I had the pleasure of playing the beta's and its just a complete blast, I really couldn't get behind the actual "BR" type mode, but actually just fighting is amazing and the WASD control scheme allows it to be super user friendly to some of my friends that are not totally used to a MOBA control scheme. I'd really love to see it popoff as the team definitely deserves it.
Personally, WASD control scheme is what is throwing me off. RTS player issues. not used to my fingers being so close together for a long period of time.
WASD to control? Absolutely revolutionary. This will change gaming forever.
that caitlyn type character looked like a mix of Caitlyn, Akali and Yasuo
This is actually more interesting than I expected it to be
That "Fog of War" effect is a good idea, but it's also resource heavy. I know the internet and the computers we play on are 20 more advanced, but it was what ruined "Shadowbane".
When I'm looking at this Catalyst Black comes to my mind
Necrit, if you could link to a way to move in league using WASD that would be awesome. The thumbnail of the video you showed didn't really show how you can use WASD controls. Rather, it showed how you could use your mouse to override the need ot WASD.
You should look into Battlerite Royale. It was a separate game released as Battlerite with a huge map. It had the looting, the world hazards etc with all of the classic battle royale mechanics. It even had the cone of vision you mentioned.
This isn't gonna be any where close to a league killer. Only scenario where a moba overtakes league is if a company somehow just completely steals league IP and rewrite game and client with performant code that uses GPU.
And they called it "DEFENSE OF THE ANCIENTS 3"
It seems like a majorly scaled up bapbap
Necrit making a whole video 'talking about Project Loki' just so he can scream he didnt get into the playtest without having the scream he didnt get into the playtest.
Fight of Characters was ahead of its time lmaooo
Castle Fight when
ah yes, a game from the minds of "if we are being completely honest, we don't think"
While League is in a good spot again now, it'll never recapture that magic of when I first played it back in 2009. But this game might just do that, it looks well made and the mechanics look like it offers an insane level of depth and variety, especially with the dynamic elements such as the train and the way elevation and vision is used.
dont lie to urself. Season 13 is honestly some of the worst balancing this game has ever seen.
@@akaliotp6766League of getting progressively worse year by year.
You are lying to yourself the game is getting worse and worse
@@akaliotp6766 I'm not lying, I'm having a good time. Although I only play like... 3 normals a week now so the rare times I do play still feel kinda fun and fresh.
People really saying the game is getting worse and worse have not played through ardent censer meta LMAO
Just to clarify bloodline champions was the first game with arena mode, then battlerite came with revamped style and other ideas both games from stunlock studio
There will be always people who come formally from huge companies who do they own game
Ever since riot moved to "event" passes and now battle passes, the game has just been a skinner box and lost its luster. It's very sad that the game has only existed to sell skins for years now
1:31 As a mild correction, it doesn't seem to be 3 teams as at 2:50 in the video you can see it states 7 squads left in the top.
The first one to give it a go was Bloodline Champions, Necrit. Never forget BLC.
AAAAAAAA so many games scratching that battlerite itch 2023 what a year
I feel they have gotten a lot of people requesting playtests the last few days
This looks great, can't wait for it to join Battlerite, Heroes Of The Storm, Heroes Of Newerth and Paragon in my videogame graveyard.
As a playtester for this game I can confirm that it is really fun and worth playing.
I want to play T-T
as a playtester, i agree
As a playtester, I am definitely a playtester
How does it differ from league
if I was a playtester, I would agree.
Battlerite was not the first one to give it a go, it was Bloodline: Champions. Their original game.
Necrit: and these Ex-rioters are making their own Moba!
Everyone in this channel: Necrit, this is the third ex-rioter made Moba you shown us this week!
(Or something idk i suck at making memes)
yeah i'm not gonna hold my breath for it.
i already got burned twice with battlerite and its predecessor.
I forgot that the term MOBA is multiplayer online battle arena
the game doesn't need lanes, nor it doesn't need a building objective you need to destroy to win.
if you have 2 teams that are fighting against each other on an arena/map then that's considered MOBA
probably looks like a top down battle royale style game that looked simpler.
probably looked like fortnite without building or item looting
or eternal return without item looting and with immersive interactive map
totally thought this video was gonna be on Fangs, but im kind of excited to play this now
As someone who does not enjoy the typical lane arena mobas
I can get behind this
thank you necrit with this info i can't wait to give project loki a try when they eventually became playable so far it looks promising and actually fun
Genuinely don't know if this is an extremely bold move of incredibly brave seeing how battlerite turned out to be at the end of the day, doesn't seem to be that much different from the gameplay too so far including art and gameplay, hmm we'll see.
Yip's replacement in LoR being a former MTG guy really killed my interest in the game
Man the moment i saw its gameplay battlerite came to my mind instantly
Boy I wonder how long it takes for a meta to form and MobaFire to be written, so it turns into the only valid composition of 4 heroes ever.
OK I do like it but my eye's hurt I would be more confused then a fish in the middle of desert
passion project from devs in the field? sounds more like a whole ass riot schism
Mr Necrit, it was Dead Island : Epidemic who first did the moba but arena 10 years ago.
I thought you meant "I guess you do have phones" with Safelock
this is literally the cycle continuing
well actually, the first one was bloodline champions (from the same company that made battlerite)
I LOVE YOU NECRIT
