One person at a time. Write the time and kids name down. After 15 minutes, call office and have them page the student back to the classroom. At that point, make an announcement such as “everyone, please recognize that when you leave to use the restroom, there will be other people who may also need to urgently go as well. Please be respectful of your classmates and return to class as soon as possible”
This helped a lot because I just started subbing and I had some teachers who have not left lesson plans, seating charts or any notes about which students I may to focus on or be more aware of any behavioral issues or even medical issues.
Thank you for this helpful video. I've decided to start subbing once a week because miss I miss teaching and interacting with students after 15 years of being immersed in online education. I'm feeling a bit rusty on classroom management and your tips were an excellent refresher.
Thank you! These are really concrete and helpful tips. If you haven't done so already I'd love to see a video about your path to licensure. Are you doing a residency or a master's, or something else? Thanks for the great content!
So what do you do when it is the entire class literally that refuses to put their phone away? So when im subbing high school, I will have six classes with 25 kids in each. So that is 150 kids that refuse to put their phone away, refuse to do any work. They spend the entire period playing with the phone.
I just got hired a a school based sub , I’ve subbed in past before Covid for this school so I’m familiar. One good thing is the state of Va banned cell phones in school woohoo ! This is new ! It’s great but the kids are addicted so they may be more crazy because their Jonesing
Hello I am new to your channel and I really wanted some tips and you helped me a lot. I am going to subscribe. The tips are great and can you try to make your videos a bit shorter because I sometimes won't have enough time to watch on till last and could miss some important things. Besides that, really loved this video. Keep up the good work.

She does a nice job.
I start subbing on Monday! Thank you for these tips!
❤️
I wish i stood in the hall. Its also a good way to see what teachers are around you that are willing to help.
I let them sit with their friends if they do their work but if they just are too loud theyve got to move.
Thanks so much for the tips! I'm about to start subbing in March!
Thanks for watching and good luck!😊
This was definitely helpful. I will definitely follow some of these tips especially with the middle schoolers.
Subbed for my first middle schoolers. Boy, 5 periods, each class had a couple of troublemakers. Wish I’d listen to this first lol
Middle school students are wild lol. I prefer high school
Nice tips, thanks
In my experience, I don't feel comfortable confiscating student cell phones. This can often cause students to become violent.
The company I sub for doesn’t allow us to confiscate phones.
Yes exactly this! What are some alternatives if you have any?
@@TheBLGLif you aren’t able to confiscate them what do you do?
How do you keep the kids in their chairs. My middle school kids just don't seem to listen, won't stay in seats. They think yay substitute=free time

Never take a teen phone as a sub-teacher. it's best to call the office or security.

Yes I have this on my list and it will be coming soon!😊
