John Rich has said if Oliver Anthony had been signed to a label, none of us would have ever heard Rich Men North of Richmond.
It was embraced by the entire Republican party establishment. To his credit he called then out for their selective amplification of the message. But when something is played at a RNC debate I dont think it's too subversive for popular consumption.
Especially the verse about welfare. He went from attacking wealth6 fat cats in DC to obese people making less than 14k a year. Just seems like a strange dichotomy

Almost 63 years old, working 40-60 hours a week while the neighbors around you ,who are way more able to work, don't do a damn thing but live off of welfare/ food stamps........ THAT'S what Oliver is talking about.
So if the WELFARE part OFFENDS you, maybe you should GET A JOB!!!!!! 🙄
A bizarre decision to make a verse shaming food stamp usage. Ebt benefits are virtually a rounding error in terms of a budget. To focus on poor citizens distracts from hus critique of politicians. He tried to clarify in interviews but it was an odd choice
