Appalachian culture, North Carolina culture, heck all of our southern states’ cultures tend to overlap and we all share many common customs, foods and traditions. It’s always fun to recognize all the things we have in common and also to learn about the little differences, finding new southern words, ways, and recipes. God bless you and yours, and happy thanksgiving to you all.

Hey Tipper, IN researching my Wesson Heritage, learning my great great grandfather was born in North Carolina in about 1832( county not known for some reason) and listening to other friends speak of their families beginnings in the Carolinas, way back , North and South Carolina must have been the?" jumping off point" into the unknow WESTERN FRONTIER beyond its borders to settle Georgia and Alabama . My granddaddy settled in NORTH ALABAMA where many of my relatives still live today. I've always believed that the Nothern part of GA/ AL reminded the early family members of the NC Appalachian Mountains BRANCH that continue across these states. Just really beautiful. It reminds me that all of us are more ALIKE THAN DIFFERENT! AND if you look AROUND these communities there , the Food, cultures and music and language has a familiar similarity. So tho I don't live in your neck of the "woods", I feel we certainly could All be Cousins. I think one THING I hear a lot about this time of year is " DRESSING" VERSUS " STUFFING"! HA HA! Our heritage of the HILLS has just about the same method of prepareing, ingredients and of course it's TITLE, DRESSING! I DON'T THINK of anytime in my 71 years that our Thanksgiving dish was EVER " STUFFED IN THE BIRD!" To me Its a Sacrilege to even think about that lovely. "dressing" going INSIDE the bird where It will never have that wonderful CRISPY TOP coming FROM the oven.
I know you and your Family will Always find ways to Share & Celebrate Life in APPALACHIA , whether it be there in Brasstown or across the other states of the Unique Appalacian Mountain Range . We share a rich heritage of hundreds of years along side many inventions , art , recipes , and in general the ways to keep these special places pristine for out future generations. They will be Blessed and enriched because of your devoted efforts to preserve the way Of APPALACHIAN LIFE. BLESSINGS, D .WESSON ROGERS😌💚

Beautiful song, Tipper. As a song writer myself, I know that lyrics of a song is a window into the true feeling in the author's mind and heart.
I am most thankful for God's love. Much too often, we take our God's love for granted. Is it even possible to imagine this world without God's love? We credit Christ's sacrifice on the cross, for that is our only salvation, but how often do we consider God's sacrifice.. of giving His only Son for us.

Thankful is just the start, isn’t it :) I understand, and agree.
I do my best, but the best in my mind isn’t good enough. I’m so unworthy, but oh how I love our God! I do, and I thank him from the depth’s of my heart! The God of my strength, in whom I will trust, my shield and the horn of of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge. My Savior!

Such a beautiful song! Thankful!! Glad to hear that you have a nice Thanksgiving day with your family….This is the first Thanksgiving without my oldest daughter & today happens to be the heavenly birthday of a granddaughter, but God has blessed me that we were able to travel to NC and be with my youngest daughter & some of my grandchildren…I’ve been emotional leading up to this day because my oldest daughter always helped me with the things I make, but I decided that I needed to be thankful for any time I have left on this earth and to make the most of it…

I am thankful there were times of family in my life, few as they were. I miss them too. But few when they are young see the value it will hold in their lives, til its long past and ends in empty days with nothing but deep sighs and tears of longing. If you can pass anything along it is cherish, and be thankful, all that which brings closeness. Time and distance and actions bring distance to most, be thankful for those with you.

I just love your videos, your sharing all your family and friends and everything about Appalachia... this song really bowled me over, because it is the true meaning of Thanksgiving right there... the Thanksgiving holiday was all originally about giving thanks to God, and I think your song expresses that beautifully and tenderly. Thank you, and may God bless you and all your family.

I'm so glad y'all had a good day and enjoyed the delicious food and the fellowship you had. The song Paul sang touched my heart because part of the lyrics said thankful for the tears in my eyes and thankful when I grieve. This is my first Thanksgiving without my sweet husband and though I'm sad, I'm thankful for the years we were given and the life we experienced together. I have a lot to be thankful for every day. I have a comfortable home that's warm in winter and cool in summer, plenty of food in my freezer and pantry and a family who love and care for me. My faith and my church also are important to me and I'm thankful for them, too. I'm thankful for good friends who still call and check on me, even though they're busy with their own lives. I'm thankful that I have four sweet kitties who keep me company and don't mind that I talk to them a lot because it helps me feel less lonely. And last, but certainly not least, I'm thankful for you, Tipper. Your family and your channel are blessings to me and y'all make me feel like I'm part of your family even though we've never met. God bless all of you!

Thanksgiving started yesterday when good friends dropped by to practice Christmas songs for gigs that are coming up in the next few weeks. It was a morning session so I made a pork pie and a sweet potato pie for dessert and we celebrated a mini Thanksgiving.
Today it's just me and my daughter enjoying chicken, with stuffing and mash potatoes, broccoli, and butternut squash with cranberries and some of that sweet potato pie for dessert.
PS A lot of the songs my friends perform are posted on my UA-cam channel. They do bluegrass, old time and gospel music and go by the name Long Journey. I hope you check them out you won't be disappointed.
And a happy Thanksgiving from Berwick Maine.

Tipper, that song is beautiful & Paul sang it so well! Things have changed so much around Thanksgiving & Christmas now since I've gotten older (63) & our parents are no longer with us. I have so many good memories of growing up with all the family being together, but now my oldest sister & brother have fairly large families with kids being grown, married & having children now. My sister that's next to me is 70 & she never had children. Her hubby is 79 & just went through major heart surgery. My sister had a knee replacement in July & hasn't healed completely from that. My hubby still isn't feeling real good & was hospitalized in October. So we decided to just go very small this year. My sister did make us macaroni salad (my favorite) & banana pudding (hubby's favorite). They had a small meal at their house & hubby just fixed some sliced deli turkey, some boxed dressing & mashed potatoes. But it was good. I'm just thankful for all the blessings God gives all the time, even when we're unawares. And I'm thankful to have found your channel. It reminds me of home.. Thanksgiving Blessings to y'all! 🤗🙏🛐

My family always had sort of a mixed Thanksgiving tradition. On my father's side everyone was Southern as could be. My grandmother on mom's side was full blooded Norwegian though. At both places we always had the turkey, mashed potatoes, and dressing, but all the other food pretty much depended on whether we were eating Thanksgiving dinner with dad's side or mom's side of the family. If on dad's side it was the traditional sweet potatoes, green beans, hot rolls, deviled eggs, and the like. If on mom's side the Norwegians are fond of a variety of cold salads and relishes and such as that, and the rolls would be replaced, or at least supplemented by, lefsa, which is a Norwegian flat bread made from potatoes. I have great memories of both.

I just want to say Thank You for the little journey outside of my own head, my environment here, and very nice visuals, too.
Happy Holidays, and always remember, life outside of your region of Appalachia can be just beyond explanation, and seeing that contrast between such, and life where you are at, is a beautiful distraction, indeed.

Tipper, I am thankful for you, for what you do in keeping our mountain culture alive. I am so glad that you have the ability and format to broadcast to the world that we are not a bunch of moonshine drinking uneducated hillbillies. It is so sad that our people have been mislabled for years. When I watch one of your videos, it is just like I am at home or at my mom's or aunt's or back at my grandmother(s) houses when I was a kid. Few of my people had advanced formal education but they were among the smartest people on earth. They knew how to live with little money. They could raise and preserve their own food. They could cook without recipes. They could fix almost anything that was broken. They were resourceful and most still are. You bring all of this to life and the rest of the world can see just how we (people of the mountains) really are.

Wonderful words of this song. Too very often we are not thankful for our trials, testings, struggles and suffering as we have really not been taught this aspect of thankfulness which is in scripture. Scripture says our suffering brings many character building qualities that please God, it speaks of our 'light afflictions' which is but for a moment, in the spiritual view of it, not our natural view, is working far more for our eternal glory and there are so many other scriptures. Thank you for sharing this aspect of being thankful. Blessings. In Joy

Great video and song. I was clocking in at work about 4:30 one morning and a woman looked at me and asked why I was smiling. I told her “I’d rather be here than the best hospital or the best jail I know of”, trust me I’ve been in both, (jail was over 25 years ago in case anyone I’ve pastored is reading). They wasn’t the best but spending time in them made me realize work ain’t so bad, it’s all about how we look at it. I am thankful to see where God has brought me in this life. I hope to check out your blog as soon as I figure out what a blog is. Thank you for your uplifting videos.
