I’m not even a soccer player, I just enjoy your content been a subscriber for year. Your content is amazing Matt. I’m inspired to workout, get better grow. All your information is really class and appreciate the time you took and take to make others better. You’re an inspiration my guy.
everything you say honestly matt is so real to me. like i can connect to you so much man. i really like your videos. they make alot of sense and are actually my motivational videos to watch before i go workout or go train. thanks for that man. I've been watching you for a long time man and all i have to say is keep up the good work even when some days it feels shitty or your just not feeling it because from what i can see your talent is improving and hard hours of hours of work pays off man. i really hope your professional career exceeds and you get bigger. keep it up matt. and thanks for keeping me motivated
+Jonah Sandoval Thank you, I really appreciate it! I am pumped that you can connect so well to my videos. Definitely, man, gotta keep working and training and just push through the bad days/workouts while keeping that end goal in sight.
Some great things you had to say about bodyweight training! Although I might want to add something. In my opinion, 'bodyweight only' training is perfect if you do it as a first phase in your resistance training program, which means, the first 1-2 months. Clearly, you are waaaay past this first phase, so it isn't that important anymore, altough it doesn't hurt going back once in a while. In those first months, bodyweight training is a fantastic 'tool' to make your body adapt to any form of resistance training, by learning the primal movements correctly and building your base. This will help you building structural integrity, which is important if you add resistance is the form of weight later on. It also corrects imbalances in your posture, which can be harmful later on, if you don't fix them initially. Things like bodyweight squats (the correct way, even wall squat holds are better), bodyweight lunges in all directions, planks, proper push ups, chin/pull-ups, prone cobra holds, glute bridges and things of that nature (even some basic plyometric stuff) are great if you are a beginner. I see too many people starting out in the gym without knowing what they're doing, but still trying to back squat, deadlift and press, with all kinds of musle imbalances and wrong form. Just my 2 cents. Always looking forward to these videos!
+Jesse Hertoghs I actually completely agree with everything you have said in this comment. Everything. Thank you for adding this in. I am going to read this comment and give you credit in my next Day in the Life so all my viewers can hear this. Definitely something I missed in my talk in the video.
Wow 5,000 subs and as of November 20 a year and 8 months later at 128k almost 129k wow how you have grown, I found your channel like a year ago but I wished I would've found it earlier can't wait to see what you'll accomplish next in a year #Throwback
if I'm having a shite session like you were having, would you recommend just stopping the session for the next day or continuing the training with poor execution?
Hey man I understand what you're saying about their being no reason to get bigger but to join a gym you have to be 18 or older and I don't have anyone to go with me since my mom is always busy.... Help?
Man i feel like giving up.im 17 at the momw ent and i still havent gotten any big trials.i had 2 county trials from my club but i didnt go to half of them and now that im almost finished school and i feel like there isnt a point in pursuing the dream to be a footy player.compared to the 16/17 year olds who have been at academies since birth i feel like i cant even get to their level..
Don't give up man, you're in a much better position then me. I'm 19 and my school never had a team I played club one year but soccer isn't popular here so they didn't have my age group. I'm always working solo. Don't give up and work a lot alone. Keep doing your best. Don't be afraid to call people to watch you play
Yeah actually he is right don't give up on your dream I am also 17 keep on doing the good work always remember that your skills will put you we you are supposed to be and if you put God first place then your skills will be at an another level out of this world so my advice to you is study his word pray listen to sermons and work on football and then you will excel
do you stretch lots cause I play soccer and I've started working out and I've noticed I'm sore and my knees are hurting to run on I don't stretch and I'm wondering if o I should put the extra time in to stretch?
+Tristan Davis First off, you'll be sore no matter what. That is good! The fact that you are sore means your workouts are set-up well. I am sore after every one of my workouts. The key is having the mental toughness to train and play through the soreness. Stretching will NOT alleviate muscle soreness, but is very important in injury prevention. I stretch for about 10-15 minutes at least 2-3 times a week. For me, I find that my lower back starts to tighten up if I do not stretch enough. Every one is different, so I can only tell you what I do. As for your knees hurting, I would consult a doctor or a trainer. I cannot accurately give you advice online over injuries like that.
Im pretty sure i heard you say you try and hit legs twice a week, maybe im tweakin tho lol but assuming you did say that how do you go about it. Do you treat it as just two normal leg days or do you split them up by muscle groups? Thanks in advance if you get a chance to reply to this
I do a heavy leg day on Monday which is usually the day after my game. This is lower reps, higher weight and focused around squats, deadlifts, leg press. Then I do a lighter weight, higher rep day (I call it my Hypertrophy day) on Thursdays. This is focused around isolation exercises like Lunges, machine hamstring curls, leg extensions, calves etc.
Im 13 and I dont know whether to do bodyweight workouts or work out at my school gym my gym at school has cardio equipment and weights what do u recommend because I can go gym after school for a hour but I would have less time to do homework
+Emmanzk _123 School should come first always, however you should be able to workout at your school gym and still have time for your studies if you are managing your time efficiently. I never found a problem balancing multiple sports, schoolwork, and lifting weights because I managed my time very well and rarely procrastinated on my homework and projects.
I think people mistake exercising with getting a sweat going lol because you can sweat out you sickness. if anything go for a run but like you said rest. Great video man
+Merquiades Mclellan I definitely agree. There is a time and place when it is smart to "sweat out" a sickness, if i were to say that in the video, I guarantee I would have a 100 comments talking about how wrong I am haha.
+Become Elite people don't realize it depends on who you are as well. I'm 204lbs today and I'm a soccer player. Generally a heavy dude in soccer so my body reacts to colds and exercise differently... ( I could loose some body fat) anyways do you have any game film?
+Become Elite I ask because I am not good at drills and repetition. its what I'm working on. I'm good in game, just not sure I'm professional in game yet. if not I'm very close
Matt I have a problem with my bench press, I tried it for the first time today and I could only bench 40 pounds. I am a 15 your old kid and I weigh 140 pounds. I also felt no strain in my chest yet I was struggling to do 8 reps at 40 pounds
Maybe ur triceps and shoulders are weak. Most likely triceps. Do tricep extensions and do plenty of push-ups everyday and it will help such as diamond push-ups. It just to get u started.
Hey I'm 5'8 120lbs, I play left back for my team and I'm trying to gain mass and get faster, how many days a week do you think I should be in the gym? Thanks
+Become Elite family thanks for answering and just wanted to say your day in the life videos are so good and really motivational for someone who's growing up like me with a goal of playing pro. Keep up the great work on the pitch and with UA-cam!!
I can do this because I have been weightlifting for 10 years now and have recognized the exact rep before failure. I always recommend having a spotter behind you when performing bench especially when doing heavier weight. I also usually play it safer when benching alone, like in my first set I could have probably gotten 6-7 reps with a spotter, but stopped at 5.
How many calories should I eat I am 13 and I train 1-2 hours a day 6 days a week with a game on the 7th day everyone says I should eat more but I want to know how many calories. I currently only eat about 1800 - 2000 calories a day
, I have another question... Right now I am a centre back(might seem funny I was asking about shooting but you'll see why) on my team. I am a recently turned 13 year old player who's 1.81, not sprinter quick but great pace, and physically Akinfenwa compared to 95% of people in my age group. So almost naturally, I'm pushed into being a centre back, tall, strong, athletic, and I'm a decent centre back as well. However, I want to transition into playing as a winger/ midfielder... This will require for me to move to a worse team next season and maybe even drop out of the top division in my state.. Would that risk be worth it considering I want to play for my state? Or do you have any idea how I could be tested in a higher position on my current team?
Bob Jim I've tried, and now I'm a fucking full back, which I don't enjoy either. I hate to play anywhere in defence as I can't hold on to the ball and create, and this might sound weird, but technically, I'm probably the best on my team, yet my coach has this belief that I am extremely awkward on the ball... The reason to this is because I had a bad first game for the team, where I was quite bad on the ball, but ever since I dribble more players than our wingers... I will have to leave the team, he's already labelled me as a bad player despite all my teammates telling me I put in great performances every game.
I think you should keep playing Centre Back for a little more I'm in the situation bro I'm fast, tall, and really strong (Akinfenwa lol) and I'm big I weigh 145 and I'm 5'3 so I was pratically forced to be a CB even though I kinda want to midfielder or a attacker but I feel I should give it more of a chance
Question, when shooting, should you have a relatively high or low backswing, if going for a power shot... I hear some say to have a low follow through otherwise you will come down on the ball, and others say you should to gain momentum to hit? Which is correct?
really depends on the individual and situation. Workout And get strong legs. As for me I wear size 13 cleats so my foot on the ground is actually going to be placed in a different spot then you for my different shots. Kicks are more about the location of your kick. And fast movement. You could also get momentum and have a shorter follow through by landing on your shooting foot
+Merquiades Mclellan so move your legs as fast as possible? I am size 12-13 depending on the boot, so can you answer my question? High or low backswing
+Maserati Messi I use both techniques. I use a shorter backswing when I am closer to the goal and am more concerned with getting a quick shot off and I use a bigger back swing when I am outside the 18 with time and space and want to put more emphasis on power. When learning the technique, I would suggest shortening up your backswing and focusing on making perfect contact with the ball with the perfect spot on your foot then as you get comfortable start increasing your backswing and put more power behind it.
+Maserati Messi More of snapping is how I'd describe it. Also I use a long and short back swing like I said depending on what shot I want. You just want to swing the legs fast and have all your power behind the shot. You can practice by not even taking a step. But with a bigger foot the guide foot, for me is more in front of the ball because I hate kicking the ground lol also keep your eye on the ball until contact is made.
+Maserati Messi when you are learning the technique DO NOT TRY TO SWING AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. Slow it down, shorten the backswing and just focus on perfect contact. I can swing 50% power and a short or a long back swing and still get very good power behind the ball just because I am making perfect contact with the ball.
Creatine: yes, it increases ATP in your muscles which provides more energy for your lifts. You'll be able to lift your normal weight for 1-2 more repetitions which in turn leads to increased muscle growth. No studied short term/long term negative side effects. Preworkout: Probably not. It's essentially like drinking 2 cups of coffee. So if you aren't drinking coffee because you are two young then I definitely wouldn't recommend Preworkout. Other than caffeine it also has some ingredients that increase blood flow to muscles and can help give you a better pump, but it's not really that much to notice a huge effect. I don't like coffee so preworkout is a good way for me to get energy from caffeine in.
Do I have to do a loading stage of creatine before taking just 5 grams a day? Some articles say you need to get it saturated, what does this mean? Thanks Matt!
+Raymond Yeo I have tried loading creatine before and I have also tried not loading it. I couldn't tell a difference at all with how fast I became saturated with creatine in my muscles. The research behind it suggests there is no need for a loading phase. I would suggest the same. Just go straight in and start taking 5 g a day, 30 minutes before your workouts
The crazy thing is at this time I was also living in an apartment by myself in a different city and state from where I went to college. It was in the same country, the US, but it was the same idea.
+La Mar-k Tuts For speed and strength, check out my Speed Program by clicking the first link in my description. As for the top 6 drills, there are no top 6 drills. Every drill works something different and has different advantages and disadvantages. If there were a top 6 drills then in every training session i do I would only do the same 6 drills. I believe that every drill brings a new aspect/skill into play so I incorporate hundreds of drills to hit hundreds of different aspects of the game. If you stuck with just 6 drills or even 10 drills or 20 drills, no matter how good those drills are, your training sessions would be missing different aspects of the game.
+Become Elite That's exactly what I used to do . I won't now tho ! I will work hard to accomplish my dream , Thanks A lot and keep making good videos !!
+Tnv 17 Yes, but that's a lot bigger than most people think and also much harder to attain than people think. I think Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo have the perfect athletic soccer physiques and they are very strong and muscular. Becoming too big is very hard to do as well. Most people would struggle to get as big and strong as Cristiano Ronaldo with years and years of weightlifting.
Like I said, I have tried it and still implement it in my workouts today. However, when I just did calisthenics I didn't gain as much muscle mass or as much strength as when I weight trained.
+Obaid Haidary Haha I appreciate that, but Cristiano Ronaldo is 6 feet 1 inches tall and has been recorded to weigh around 180-185 lbs. I am about a half an inch shorter (6 feet 1/2 inches) and the most I have weighed was in this video and was 178 lbs.
Um he watches Ronaldo’s highlights cause maybe he’s a fan? Also Ronaldo is similarly built to Matt so it would be beneficial for him to watch to see how ronaldo reacts in game.
It's nice to watch matts old videos in Germany, very happy to see u go from 5k to 600k on UA-cam, he desevres it for sure
I’m not even a soccer player, I just enjoy your content been a subscriber for year. Your content is amazing Matt. I’m inspired to workout, get better grow. All your information is really class and appreciate the time you took and take to make others better. You’re an inspiration my guy.
I like the fact that you keep it real.
Yeah at least

Hey man I understand what you're saying about their being no reason to get bigger but to join a gym you have to be 18 or older and I don't have anyone to go with me since my mom is always busy.... Help?
That's really unlucky where i live you have to be 12 to go to gym and buy membership
I don't think there's a age limit at my gym Steve Nash I'm 12 and I have a membership
Man i feel like giving up.im 17 at the momw
ent and i still havent gotten any big trials.i had 2 county trials from my club but i didnt go to half of them and now that im almost finished school and i feel like there isnt a point in pursuing the dream to be a footy player.compared to the 16/17 year olds who have been at academies since birth i feel like i cant even get to their level..

Ok thank you
Does this team you play for give you alot of money. Just wondering sorry if it's too personal a question.
Matt how long do u work out at the gym, like do u do back chest shoulders legs for an hour or so u do some longer or what?
Pretty much every workout is between 1 and 1.5 hrs long and it completely depends on how into the workout I am and how much energy I have.
+Become Elite thanks, how many times do u do each body part a week, like do u repeat any
+Henry McCullers I just always go legs, chest/tri, back/bi, legs, shoulders, arms/calves, rest day and just keep repeating.
+Become Elite thanks so much!
why don't you get a bicycle?
Im pretty sure i heard you say you try and hit legs twice a week, maybe im tweakin tho lol but assuming you did say that how do you go about it. Do you treat it as just two normal leg days or do you split them up by muscle groups? Thanks in advance if you get a chance to reply to this

As many as you can! I go 6 days a week
Matt what camera do you use to film? And what computer to edit?
+Sebastian Carrillo GoPro Hero 4 (silver edition) and just iMovie on my Macbook to edit.
+Become Elite family thanks for answering and just wanted to say your day in the life videos are so good and really motivational for someone who's growing up like me with a goal of playing pro. Keep up the great work on the pitch and with UA-cam!!
what position are you playing?
He plays winger or center forward
+Ian Zambrano no he plays right back or right wing
Hi Matt. How do u bench press a lot of weight by yourself safely?
I can do this because I have been weightlifting for 10 years now and have recognized the exact rep before failure. I always recommend having a spotter behind you when performing bench especially when doing heavier weight.
I also usually play it safer when benching alone, like in my first set I could have probably gotten 6-7 reps with a spotter, but stopped at 5.
+Become Elite ok thanks for letting me know. Keep on making great vids 😀
Become Elite how much rest after you've done reps to failure
how long after your 1000 calorie breakfast do you start working out? how long to digest?
About 45 minutes
How many calories should I eat I am 13 and I train 1-2 hours a day 6 days a week with a game on the 7th day everyone says I should eat more but I want to know how many calories. I currently only eat about 1800 - 2000 calories a day
look up a calorie calculator
Join a gym and you can ask the personal trainers and u can lift and do cardio
Your not too young I'm 12 and a half and I'm in the gym 6-7 days a week cuz it's summer
What ingredients and how much do you put in your morning shakes?
1 banana
1 handful of frozen strawberries
1.5 scoops vanilla protein powder
1 cup oatmeal
1 Handful of spinach
Water
, I have another question... Right now I am a centre back(might seem funny I was asking about shooting but you'll see why) on my team. I am a recently turned 13 year old player who's 1.81, not sprinter quick but great pace, and physically Akinfenwa compared to 95% of people in my age group. Ask your boss "can I have a chance to play as a defensive midfielder, you sound like that kind of player"
Ur at the position because ur shit at other positions do not risk it
The perfect pitch thanks mate, FYI, one day life will be better. Keep your head up :)
I think you should keep playing Centre Back for a little more I'm in the situation bro I'm fast, tall, and really strong (Akinfenwa lol) and I'm big I weigh 145 and I'm 5'3 so I was pratically forced to be a CB even though I kinda want to midfielder or a attacker but I feel I should give it more of a chance
how do u become a good juggler, I practice everyday for 1 hour just for juggling, but I can't reach more than 20. Please help me!!!
latry Ali get the technique right first. then you'll improve. and don't rush it
What boots do u wear in game?
Question, when shooting, should you have a relatively high or low backswing, if going for a power shot... I hear some say to have a low follow through otherwise you will come down on the ball, and others say you should to gain momentum to hit? Which is correct?
really depends on the individual and situation. Workout And get strong legs.
I can swing 50% power and a short or a long back swing and still get very good power behind the ball just because I am making perfect contact with the ball.
oh shit heheheh I thought ur a defender lol my bad
Obaid Haidary He is. RB
How many times should the practice gym in the week ?
At the very least 2x a week. I like to go 5-6x a week, but I'm a little crazy with that
What does pre workout and creatine do? Can I use it if I'm 15 and work out regularly ?
It was in the same country, the US, but it was the same idea.
well my gym isn't even open
Solution: join a different gym
How do you recover when you've never felt 100%
ur defender you should follow Ramos I don't know if I spell his name right
+Obaid Haidary I'm not a defender. I am a winger, just like Ronaldo
What exercises do you recommend for speed and strength for soccer ?
I have watched all your day in the life videos , and well my question is what are the top 6 exercises to really improve as a soccer athlete ?
+Become Elite so variating it is the best way to go ? As long as you do good and effective drills ?
Exactly, as you add drills you will find a few favorites, but you should never just stick to a small number of drills.
+Become Elite That's exactly what I used to do . I won't now tho ! I will work hard to accomplish my dream , Thanks A lot and keep making good videos !!
he's 80 kg
+Obaid Haidary That's an older recorded weight. Actually in 2016 he is reported at weighing 84 kilos
I went form 51 kg to 58 kg yay!
+aman chandra Awesome! congrats man! I know how much work that takes to do. What's your end goal weight?
+Become Elite 62kg
Do you wanna be the best soccer player in the world
+Elijah M. Martin Of course, I think every player should have this goal! You should have this goal too!
Would you ever think that if you get "too big", you'll be slower in the game?
+Tnv 17 Yes, but that's a lot bigger than most people think and also much harder to attain than people think. I think Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo have the perfect athletic soccer physiques and they are very strong and muscular. Becoming too big is very hard to do as well. Most people would struggle to get as big and strong as Cristiano Ronaldo with years and years of weightlifting.
What is his email?

getting big its not good if u watch pro's they are not that big so I don't know why u wanna get big ?
+Obaid Haidary Cristiano Ronaldo is about 185 lbs (83 kgs) and about my same height. I am basing my goal weight/physique off of him.
why not try doing calisthenics
Like I said, I have tried it and still implement it in my workouts today. However, when I just did calisthenics I didn't gain as much muscle mass or as much strength as when I weight trained.
you look bigger then him tho
+Obaid Haidary Haha I appreciate that, but Cristiano Ronaldo is 6 feet 1 inches tall and has been recorded to weigh around 180-185 lbs.
I am about a half an inch shorter (6 feet 1/2 inches) and the most I have weighed was in this video and was 178 lbs.
I like how he said "I like to watch highlights of players like Ronaldo" *ahem* where dem messi's at cuh
Um he watches Ronaldo’s highlights cause maybe he’s a fan? Also Ronaldo is similarly built to Matt so it would be beneficial for him to watch to see how ronaldo reacts in game.
