Omg your Japanese is AMAZING! I’m Chinese, so I really shouldn’t be speaking, but since I watch anime and understand only a few words, I think it’s really great! I also really want to learn Japanese 🥰🥰
This young woman always acts very Japanese in her conversations, being polite and apologizing and being self-effacing. I'm sure it helps her a lot in Japan, that she's absorbed so much about how to interact in the socially correct manner.
I always had been an introvert when I was in Japan. I've changed a lot over the years though. Getting to know new people is fun. Now I work in retail. Love this video.
The first time I watched your channel I got inspired right away to approach people more when in the different country. I never thought that it would make me feel so confident to be more friendly to strangers and knowing that they'll be so friendly back to you as well. This is great!
@IkImTheBest I also think like that but some people really need to use "strategies" to make even a few friends. I feel sorry for them cause if they approach me kindly and start a simple conversation I wouldn't mind really.
Japanese is truly a beautiful language which was one of the reasons why I wanted to learn it years ago. Before the pandemic I used to refresh my Japanese when we had flight attendants from JAL stop by the grocery store I work at to pick up lunch and supplies. I actually impressed a few of them with my small knowledge of basic Japanese. I hope I get to see them again soon but I feel like it will be some time before the flight attendants can safely return to the US.
This was a wholesome video. I was wanting to see the reactions they had to you speaking Japanese, but instead I left this video seeing how happily the people talked you after complimenting them. Love it.

Since you respect asian cultures, your videos are so enjoyable and educational. It is not so easy because foreign cultures sometimes look strange. You did it such an important thing however. I am sure it's the biggest reason why your videos are enjoyable and educational. Thank you for making excellent videos!
The only challenge for me to start a conversation with strangers is: My fear of them judging me in their minds, like what if they think I’m a creep/freak or something. So that’s a main drawback for me
Just have a "IDontGiveAFuck" attitude in your mind and you will be fine. If they think that you are a creep who gives a fuck? Let them think that and move on ;)
You know what, I think it's easier to start a conversation with strangers that speak a language you want to learn. They are more opened to take the time and to help you. I am belgian, french as mother tongue, have learned a bit of german and curently learning japanese, good level in english but unfortunately I don't have enough opportunities to practice my speaking skills. If you really want to speak with strangers that won't judge you, and you are shy or scared (like me), try with different people and practice with the same scenario every time. It can be stupid things like asking the way to a cinema, a shop, a train station, a restaurant. Even if you don't go there, ask people the same question just to get used to and have an ego boost. :-) Sorry about my english, but I try myself to improve my skills this way and I enjoy it more and more. My ultimate goal is to speak enough japanese to visit the country and be comfortable enough to have small talk with people. :-)
If a language learner politely approached you in your native language, would you consider them a freak and reject them? I seriously doubt it. I am willing to bet that you would appreciate their efforts to learn your language and treat them with respect. Obviously, this works both ways, most of the time. Most of the people you might like to communicate with will give you the same respect. They might not always have the time, energy, interest, etc. to have a long conversation, but they probably won’t leave you completely hanging. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a challenge sometimes. When I get into more difficult language situations, I try to stop and remind myself of the above. It gives me the confidence to push beyond the fear. Best of luck on your language journey.
Yep. As a woman, at worst, someone'll think you're a bit weird. As a man, if you try and strike up a convo with a girl, there's an added risk she automatically assumes you're hitting on her and puts her guard up... 😕🤦🏻♀️
@Daniel Rumbacher Yeah, there are idiots everywhere. There is also a big difference in culture. In Eastern Asia, they regularly wear masks so it's not a big change for them. In Europe and America however, just finding a good mask is a struggle.
When i start a conversation with someone in Thailand in English i will get shot down like 80% of the time. When i start a conversation with someone in Thailand in Thai. Almost all people want to talk to me. People LOVE the fact you took the effort to learn their language and even get somewhat proud that a foreigner would do such a thing. I shouldv made my own youtube channel and be your Thai Equivalent... Unfortunately for me i look like a potato and have absolutely zero camera presence. Ey... It is what it is i guess. ^^
Their expressions and happiness when you actually attempt to speak Thai with them was always the best thing, they really open up and have conversation.

I came back to California and there is this Japanese grocery store down my street. I went there one day to buy my elderly mother some food and met this white girl that over a few months developed into a relationship. I brought her home to meet my mum and to my UTTER SHOCK she started speaking to her in nearly spotless Japanese. I'll never forget it. My mum was so thrilled.

@@aitanac.3320 the joke is about how americans in anime (who grew up in USA and obviously shouldn't know japanese) dont speak english but fluent japanese instead
I love how you can just compliment someone on the street and it turns into a full out conversation. Here in America, you compliment someone on the street and they'd probably either ignore you or do something rude. Not all places and most of the time they are nice, it's just amazing that you can make friends with someone you met while walking down a street.
Thats weird cause a lot of foreigners thay visit America say we talk to strangers too much
If you would compliment someone like that in Germany, people would wonder if they should call the police or take you to a mental hospital.
@@SnorriSnibble I've tried that in Austria (I'm not from there) and I could tell they were either suspicious I was mocking them or just felt a little awkward but were generally polite.
Americans are super friendly compared to asians tho, you just have to bring your cute dog and people’ll talk to you
Weird I’m American and people talk to me all the time on the streets when I’m walking or going to the store. Even at the restaurant people talk to me a lot. I have lived in some Asian countries and people thought it was weird to talk to strangers.

Loved the convo. She seemed so delighted that someone complimented her and was so eager to speak with you! You make it look so easy lol
I always had been an introvert when I was in Japan. I've changed a lot over the years though. Getting to know new people is fun. Now I work in retail. Love this video.
I love how you can tell she’s an awkward girl but she jus keeps going and getting better super powerful to see 💯🌟

Beat way to start a conversation is complimenting the other person and talking about them because people love to talk about themselves
@@TheTimN8er I actually HATE to talk about myself. Makes me uncomfortable

Language exchange online might give you the chance to speak to Japanese people again.

You're welcome
The only challenge for me to start a conversation with strangers is: My fear of them judging me in their minds, like what if they think I’m a creep/freak or something. So that’s a main drawback for me
Just have a "IDontGiveAFuck" attitude in your mind and you will be fine. If they think that you are a creep who gives a fuck? Let them think that and move on ;)
No fear, if it doesn't go well the first time try, try, try again. There are billions of people in the world.
Sorry about my english, but I try myself to improve my skills this way and I enjoy it more and more.

I remember long ago I taught English conversation in Japan. I'm Japanese-American so I understand the Japanese language to a large degree. (I'm Nisei.) I came back to California and there is this Japanese grocery store down my street. I went there one day to buy my elderly mother some food and met this white girl that over a few months developed into a relationship. I brought her home to meet my mum and to my UTTER SHOCK she started speaking to her in nearly spotless Japanese. I'll never forget it. My mum was so thrilled.
