I watched him on Tarang. I am one of the villagers he is talking about. He made my childhood awesome and because of him I am here in one of the top leading companies in the world making things I like. Thank you Sir. You taught me how to learn
my daughter is 7 months old now & after seeing Arvind here, I'm looking forward to become a creative & smart father for her. thx a lot for sharing your 30yrs of experiences Mr. Gupta.
That triangle explanation was such a brilliant one! I could never quite understand how a triangle is the most stable structure, using force diagrams. But it makes so much more sense to use a physical model, since the the original problem is primarily an architectural one!
We all need teachers like you. In fact, the teachers need teachers like you. You remind me of something I read about a guy who became very rich from investing after applying some basic principles. He said, " if I see 5 cents (or 5 piasa) on the street I pick it up, not because its 5 cents but because I know what this 5 cents can become." You make this world a fun place to live in.
Great Salute to Arvind Ji... The person who was having the chance to leave country in the time of 1970s after passed out from IIT which others were/are doing, but he decided to serve for country and really he is doing well... he can create the laboratory of a school lesser than 1000 Rs with much thoughts and idea, fully scientific for students... So friends share him thoughts to our new generation as much as possible... Jai HInd
this guy is totally devoted i knw because i have seen him doing shows on dooordarshan(''TAranG'') since my childhood n i am now 22 years old.. i along with my brother use to make stuffs taught by him on tv..
@ADSwank my friend if the 98% of this world population wasn't working/dedicating their time to the rich money hungry corporate empires in this world then we would have Billions of Arvind Gupta type of people on this planet. In fact our life on this planet would have changed real fast. There are people out there as brilliant as Arvind Gupta who never had the chance to spread their creativity/knowledge to the world population. Now that we have internet it will be possible in the future.
This video is really worth watching, and most touching. First, toys are environment saviours. Second, they are bliss for the children who want to learn even in the remotest part of any country.
These toys show some of the most powerful and fundamental forces known to science. If a child is introduced to these concepts early and in a hands on way, they will have a head start on figuring it all out when they grow up and be much more curious and informed about the world based upon sound principles.
still inspiring the kids of next decade .... we need creativity like this in our country instead of children preparing for Engineering Entrances 4 years before the actual exam
Recalled to mind my childhood days. Happy and content with toys like these. Now with the influx of electronic toys, the current generation seems to have forgotten what joy these tiny little toys can give. Nice video. Thanks.
This video is truly inspiring; innovations of learning that not only fit the 21st century, but also are available in the poorest of countries. There's a huge mental power waiting to be awakened in countries like India.
This is how a developing country introduced a whole generation to science, paving the way for it to go from struggling to feed to sending probes to Mars. :) Enraptured.
This is what called real teaching which kid won't receive in high profile money sucking so called schools. I feel nostalgic to see him in TED as I used to watch his CIET program in childhood.
I won't have time to watch this for a few hours (was just checking my emails) but this title.. Turning trash into toys for learning Classic TEDTalk. I'll be back to watch you, don't let me down.
That was a truly inspiring talk. So many great ideas for teaching kids about so many different scientific principles whilst having real fun MAKING things.
@Saesegral i haven't seen any dislikes so far.... but yes your right, this is valuable, and the man has a really really good mind, humans should learn how to improvise, that's other people is lacking of.
This is a very good video that demonstrates how one can take yesterday's garbage into real toys or how some people take discarded metal and turn them into musical instruments.
A little hard to understand at times - and a bit rushed, but WOW! I loved it!! I want to know more... !!! My favorite was the thin bicycle tubing and toothpicks for teaching geometry.
@claudees The toys today are mere improved versions of the toys of the generations before. We are to respect the past but always look towards the future. This principle is often missed by both young and older generations.

Best TEDtalk ever.
Seriously, I've been wondering over a year now what to do with my life. Making kids smile and learn = indescribably epic win.
Almost 8 years and still in awe! Thank you, Sir, for giving a great example of brilliance and hope!

OMG I learned more in this video than I learned in 12 years of public education...

Full of enthusiasm, passion. Joy of Science. Salute to you Sir.
still inspiring the kids of next decade ....

Often one doesn't know what we wanted to do but its good enough to know what you don't want to do... Nice line
I used to watch his program on Doordarshan and perhaps it's him who got me interested in science and made me realise the power of science.
I was grinning in amazement through the whole talk. Bravo!
Style Hunter Fox
Only arvind Gupta is the person behind my mechanical engineering profession. You are the real pearl.
Recalled to mind my childhood days. Happy and content with toys like these. Now with the influx of electronic toys, the current generation seems to have forgotten what joy these tiny little toys can give. Nice video. Thanks.
hes onef of the rare men with a heart for kids
This video is truly inspiring; innovations of learning that not only fit the 21st century, but also are available in the poorest of countries. There's a huge mental power waiting to be awakened in countries like India.
11:34 almost brought tears to my eyes!
This whole presentation made me smile. I am going to try making these toys with my son.
Thank-you
If India has to become a superpower, we need many teachers like him. A kid who understands and enjoys science will do wonders when he/she grows up.
Soo true
This is really great. Teaching kids with this will make them really creative and think beyond with only short of resources
a brilliant mind with very simple and sweet personality...love you sir..hats off.....
This is how a developing country introduced a whole generation to science, paving the way for it to go from struggling to feed to sending probes to Mars. :) Enraptured.
:0
Did you use a thesaurus to write this?
@@kamaravichow ... because of "enraptured"?
This guy was having so much fun he could barely get the words out. I want him to be my grandpa haha
@AmusingYeti Hes is not nervous, he was on a rush because TED imposes strict time limits, and he had many things to show.
Paheli Paheli... Paheli Hai Tarang... Maza Maza Maza Hai Tarang... Tarang Tarang Tarang Tarang....
Heartly Thanks to you Arvind Guruji

🤩Wow that's amazing🎉🎉🎉❤
Technology. Entertainment. Design. This video is a paradigm for those three thoughts.
This is what called real teaching which kid won't receive in high profile money sucking so called schools. I feel nostalgic to see him in TED as I used to watch his CIET program in childhood.

@claudees The toys today are mere improved versions of the toys of the generations before. We are to respect the past but always look towards the future. This principle is often missed by both young and older generations.
