How to share files on OneDrive - The Complete Guide
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 гру 2020
- Microsoft OneDrive is one of the leading cloud storage services. In this video, I show you how to easily share with someone else a folder or a file from the OneDrive folder on your computer.
This works on both PCs and Macs, although the Mac procedures are slightly different than those shown here.

MY AUDIO EQUIPMENT:
Zoom H1n digital recorder: amzn.to/2VxOVHR
Rode Smartlav: amzn.to/2VsYise
I now use this combination to get outstanding audio, which I then sync in post to the videos.
Blue Yeti: amzn.to/2VuHscv
This is my choice for when I record voice directly into Audacity.
* Plantronics 85619-12 Headset: amzn.to/2Heo2Xk/366Bbwc
This captures GREAT voice sound during screencast recordings; it records the voice directly into the screen recording, and does NOT pick up extraneous noises.
MY VIDEO EQUIPMENT:
Sony AX700: amzn.to/2ECX6wC
I often use a camcorder instead of a DSLR because I often record live shows of more than an hour, and a DSLR has a 30-minute shoot limit. The camcorder does not.
Canon D90 DSLR: amzn.to/37bTiBk
Tamron 17-35mm f2.8 amzn.to/2Heo2Xk
X-Rite ColorChecker Passport (for) Video:
amzn.to/3j3YxWw
Sony CX260: amzn.to/2T30IRz
This is a VERY LIGHTWEIGHT camera - less than 1 pound (my version is a 2012 model PJ260V) - that still shoots great HD video. I now use this camera as a webcam, along with the following two items.
BlueAVS HDMI Capture Card: amzn.to/2FP93Cy
Mini-HDMI to HDMI 15-foot cable: amzn.to/3mD2nbx
I use these two items to connect my decade-old Sony Handycam as a webcam; it works great and gives me ZOOM capability on the webcam!
GoPro Hero6 Black: amzn.to/2SzdtOu
Super tiny portable, with HD and wide-angle lens. Great for those crazy-angle shots you can't get any other way.
iPhone 8+ - amzn.to/2OZmEry
This has amazing video capabilities, especially when paired with the next item.
Zhiyun Smooth 4 Gimbal for iPhone: amzn.to/2UkrV2J
The iPhone 8+ BARELY fits into this, but it provides no-screen-touch controls for zoom, focus, frame rate, and much more. If you have an iPhone NOT a plus model, it should work even better. If you know of a better gimbal for a larger smartphone like the 8+, please let me know.

FYI: a green checked circle indicates that the file/folder cached locally AND saved in the cloud. It is not an indicator that it is shared. It's the person/head icon that would indicate that it is shared. -- Time marker 25 seconds... I appreciate you doing a demo from Windows explorer. The vast majority of short demos does it from the web only.
Thank you, your instructions were so easy to follow.
Happy to help! Thanks for your comment and take care.
Helped me out hugely in a critical moment. Big thanks !!
Happy to help! Take care.
Found so many complicated vid on this issue
Finally reached the right place!!!!!❤️
Thanks so much for that Kiran. I do try to make my videos well-structured so people can understand them easily.

Thank you for help when I may need it later
You're welcome. I probably use this two or three times a week. It's so handy.
Thanks Dear David
Happy to help! Should have one out on doing the same thing in DropBox in a week or so. Take care.
Excelente video!!!! Hasta en español entendí! GRACIAS!!!
De nada, and muy bueno!
Thanks!
Happy to help, Marc. Take care.
thank you sir
You're quite welcome!
Great tutorial. Can you make a tutorial showing various ways to share large files?
Thanks, Music Videos person ... I've had that in mind for a while now, but good grief! There are SO MANY ways to do this, with each having its own pluses and minuses, and the cloud-sharing landscape is changing almost daily - that just when I think I've got a good set of recommendations together, everytyhing's suddenly different! The "big dogs" are DropBox, OneDrive, and Google Drive, but also check out MediaFire and WeTransfer. Your suggestion might help me decide to move this topic up my list of vids to make. Thanks!
Thank you for your kind reply. You are a pro. If you decide to make a video on the ones you recommend and show how to do it, it would help many of us. I will look into some of the ones you mentioned. Thank you - John@@DavidsTutorials
I'm using W7 and my setup is different with the OneDrive. The main folder with drop down folders have the green check mark, but when I open just the particular folder that I want to set up a link for, there is no "Status" tab at the top. The folders themselves have a green check mark. If I right click, there is a drop down that has "Share a OneDrive link" but it gets copied to my clipboard which I don't know how to access and besides I need it be secure and set perimeters. I'm tying to share a Folder securely but don't have an email program like Outlook. I hope I made myself clear. Appreciate any help!
You need to look up how to use your clipboard. It is the same on PC and Mac and has worked the same for at least 25 years. Just share the link and set permissions to "View Only."
Issue with this method seems the file or folder being shared does not appear in the other person's OneDrive folder?
Since I made this video, I think MS has made several changes to the OneDrive interface. I THINK (but am not certain) that a shared file might appear in the recipient's "Shared with me" folder, but you have to be certain you are sending to the right account/email. All this rigamarole is why I always prefer to send them a link and let them download it for themselves. Take care.
While right clicking share option is not showing.. Whats the issue. While copying files to onedrive no status showing ( nither tickmark nor synchronising icon). Pls reply me
I'm pretty sure that one of the first things I said in this video was to make sure your OneDrive app is RUNNING. I think that may be your problem.
I got publish option in my onedrive while sharing what happen...I am very afraid ...please tell
I'm sorry, but I am not sure what you are saying. But this is not the right place to ask questions like this - try a Microsoft forum. I'm sure you can find one. Take care.
How do you delete documents that were shared with you
Have the owner delete them. They are not yours to delete. Or just right-click, then select "Free up space on this device" to remove it from your hard drive, if you've saved it there.
I'm trying to share a file on my onedrive, but I'm confused about sending a link to someone and they're able to see my personal files. I tested this by sending the link from my one Gmail account to my secondary Gmail account and I get an arrow in the left hand corner where I can look at all of my personal files. Now, im not sure if this is bc its my own Gmail so I have automatic access. But I'm afraid to send a link now bc I'm worried they'll see my personal files. What am I doing wrong?
When you get the sharing link, open it up in a DIFFERENT BROWSER. If you try to open it in the same browser, you will still be logged in to your OneDrive account, so of course it will show you all your files. Try using Brave or Vivaldi or Opera.
@@DavidsTutorials thank you so much!
Can u say how to delete it after sharing thm?
Sure. Once you know the person you shared with has dowloaded the file, just use the delete button in the web interface. I haven't found a way to auto-delete after share.
I don't get share plugin when I click "share" (I am using Mac OS)
Sorry, I don't have a Mac handy to test it on. But check out ALL the options in the context menu when you right-click (is that Option-Click on a Mac mouse?) on a file to share and make sure you understand what each option is and does.
How to use mail merge in one drive word file
Best search other vids on UA-cam for that.
So if i gave someone an edit access would he/she be able to delete the file?
Sorry, I don't know that. You might want to try it with a file that it doesn't matter if they delete it.
From their end, but not from your end
Do recipients of link need a OneDrive account
No. To test this, set up a link, then paste it into a different browser, where you are not logged in to your MS account.
How can the owner of the shared folder delete it
Click to highlight it, then click the delete icon in the web interface.
Is it safe to send someone a link to my one drive? I’m trying to send someone some files for editing but am trying to be cautious because I don’t know how much access this gives them to my computer etc
If you share just the file, that's all they can get to. Try it by getting a share link then opening it in a different browser. See what you can get to from there.
@@DavidsTutorials Hey there. I have the same problem. I open the link to ONE document in a different browser, but it lets me see all the previous and following files too! Please help!
Can't get as far as the green tick
One of the best things about computers is when you get frustrated by something, you can keep poking at it until you get it. In nearly 40 years working with personal computers, I've found that's always the case. Good luck.
@@DavidsTutorials I have found it the case that I'm not going to piss around with this when we have IT people being paid to sort it out
We have a major problem with our company OneDrive. Even when we select "receipient does not need an account/sign-in.
But they always DO need to sign in. Ni matter if it says "no sign-in requiered.
Does anyone know why that could be. We really need to fix this.
I hope you have gone to Google, Duck Duck Go, and ChatGPT for answers, and not just a comment section on a UA-cam video?
I have the same issue
@@DavidsTutorials Of course we have :D We were not able to fix this and have switched away from OneDrive. It was an obscure issue that no one seemed to able to solve.
@@ahmadshirzad1 we use "we transfer" now. No issues. No sign ins required. Just send a link and it works.
One Drive Folder😢
Why can't files from file explorer not sharing to whatsapp ?
For me, folders work the same as files.
You should abandon Whats App. It's made by an anti-capitalist country.
Don't address folders
They work the same way.
where the hell am i, that they call directory a folder???????????????????
You are in the 1980s and 1990s. Pretty all big tech companies, like Microsoft, Adobe, Apple, etc. have a philosophy that they "MUST keep (ahem) improving (cough) our products until they are no longer usable."
Can I copy and paste the transcript please or send me a copy thanks.😂
I think there are instructions for downloading a transcript somewhere on UA-cam. Otherwise, you can simply take notes while you play the video. I do that myself quite often.
what a convoluted mess
Computer procedures often are convoluted messes.
I've watched the entire thing 3 times now and still don't understand how to share files. This is very confusing. Poking around the computer, like you suggested to someone here, is not an option. I have to give this a 👎.
Sorry you feel that way, Helena. Hope you can figure it out.
You don’t know what you are doing then.
@Eliaz Ruis Obviously, that's why I went looking at UA-cam videos genius.
Give it up. Computers are not for you😂😂
@bonjovi7120 Well duh!
Mate, you didn't shared anything but a link. You practically sent a content to to another user through a link.
So, this has nothing to do with sharing a folder, but maybe a file.
Sorry but thumb down...
You should not criticize something you don't understand - which you obviously don't. The entire purpose of sharing a file in the cloud, like on OneDrive, is so you do not have to send that (sometimes huge) file via email or some other way. Instead, the MAIN way of sharing a file in the cloud is to send the person you're sharing it with a LINK, so they can download it themselves, and save you that bandwidth.
Not helpful
Sorry you feel that way. But you gave no details why. I'm suspecting you didn't watch the whole thing. Many others have found it helpful so I'm curious why you didn't.
