    We've now gone through two LA curricula. The first one i felt nothing was sticking. The most recent one i purchased feels like torture for both of us 😂
    I saw your other DIY language arts video before I bought our latest curriculum and considered making our own, but I didn't feel ready as a new homeschooler. Two weeks of torture... I mean homeschool! later, and I've set aside the curriculum. We're just doing math and reading good books. Now I'm finally ready to start building my own DIY LA!
    Thank you for your inspiration and guidance!

      @@pnmdsz6 lol! I know the feelings. Im learning there can be a time and a place for all-inclusive LA programs, but if you and your child are a good fit for this DIY style - it’s sooo much fun! And so freeing. I’m so happy to hear you’re giving it a shot. We have loved it the last couple years and I hope it’s the same for you ❤️

    I am going to try this.
    It seems great. Thank you for sharing your experience building a language program that works for your daughter.
    I have twin 10 year old daughters in 5th grade this 2024-2025 school year.

    Yes! I got my little one a vintage children's fairy tales book and I was surprised at some of the story details in there . I just wasn't used to that. Thank you for sharing! 🙏☺️

    I love this so much. It reminds me of the brave writer program, but I love how you are able to do it on your own. I'm as excited as you are. ;)

      Lol yes! A lot of inspiration came from Brave Writer - that and Learning Language Arts through Literature. But you’re right - the freedom to pick our own books and go at our own pace has really been so nice!

    I’ve implemented this with my 13 year old son today. School was done in 2.5 hours, which included 2 math lessons. He’s is currently not into fictional books. He is really interested in Astronomy, so we’re using his textbooks (and we have a lot😂). I feel like this is a great way to learn. He is reading the text to me. Thank you so much for this video.

    We are about three months in to using the DIY Language Arts and still enjoy it! I’m saving these video for when we read Trumpet of the Swan with our birds science unit. Only thing is that my 5th grader likes projects at the end of the book. So I’m searching on Pinterest for ideas.
    When we finished Escape Mr. Lemoncello’s library we did a scavenger hunt at the library, baked lemon cupcakes and watched the movie version. So much fun.
    We are currently studying poetry using a moving beyond the page unit. It’s okay but my 5th grader is ready to get back to our normal LA curriculum 😊.
    I agree with you, now our books fit us and not us fit the books!

      I love hearing this!! And I love the idea of something fun after novels! My oldest daughter recently got a recipe book called Literary Tea and it’s filled with recipes that correspond with classic novels. It’s so fun! We are actually hosting a little gathering soon for some friends that just finished a novel with us. We will be baking a recipe or two and celebrating the book with them!
      How did you like Lemoncellos library? I’ve heard so many good things!

    I've got two boys (8 and 6). We love read alouds and I'm so excited to try this style later this year! If we're new to narration what would a good way to start that with my 8 year old? Thank you for sharing!

    • @simplylearningtogether651
      @simplylearningtogether651  5 місяців тому +1

      Definitely start by practicing oral narration first. When you’re reading aloud, stop here and there and ask him to tell back to you what youve read. That’s the super simple explanation lol I highly recommend Know and Tell by Karen Glass (linked in comments). It has walked me through every step of the way. From oral to writing. From 6yo through high school! It’s an excellent resource!

    Do you ever feel that you need a separate writing curriculum? Or is narration enough?

    • @simplylearningtogether651
      @simplylearningtogether651  5 місяців тому +1

      I used to. After I read Know and Tell by Karen Glass I don’t feel that way anymore. I have no writing curriculum and I have watched her writing develop more and more in a natural way. She also finds joy in writing because of it! So as of right now, written narration has been so wonderful and we do not plan to add more formal writing.
